Finding Players (Recruitment)Look for players for chatroom, play-by-post, or even real-life games here. Threads will expire after 3 months, so be sure to move important information to your OOC thread.
You serve Glavius Wroth, An Inquisitor aligned to no Ordos. Your previous assignments have been varied but all served to safeguard the Calixis sector. Now, you have been dispatched to Scintilla. The details await you when you make landfall, but rumors precede your arrival…
Warpcraft and sorcery. Chaos’ taint grows within the capital planet. Who is to blame for this sinful transgression?
Details: I’m only taking 3-4 players to keep the game moving at a good clip.
Please only put in for a spot if you can post often – once a day to every other day. Giving notice in game about being out of town etc is appreciated. Missing folks will be NPCed for a time but their safety isn't guaranteed. The reason for this will become apparent as the game progresses as I’m going to try something a little different. While this will be revealed in time, this experiment will render this particular game more lethal than most (potentially).
The good stuff:
-110 Point Buy or Standard Rolls. 1 stat re-roll allowed and you can switch the score of 1 stat for another. You may elect to re-roll all your stats if the rolled total is less than 80.
-Max wounds & fate
-Choose your divination
-5000 beginning xp (this includes the starting 400xp)
-2700 starting wealth plus starting wealth maxed (sell back original gear at 100%)
-All books approved/allowed
The deadline for character submission is this Saturday the 6th and we’ll get rolling within a day or two from there! Like I said, I can only take 3-4 characters, so get them in if you’re interested and I’ll decide. This will be via darts at a board or dice rolls…
OR interesting character concepts and backstories

Houserules
Spoiler
Houserules I'm a fan of:
From Rogue Trader: Semi & Full Auto fire alterations. Ie you can fire on semi or full auto fire and move up to your Agi bonus in meters at the same time. This reduces your modifier from semi auto from +10 to +0 and full auto from +20 to -10.
From Black Crusade: Lasgun variable setting: Certain patterns of lasguns have a variable setting option, allowing them to fire higher powered
bursts. Lasguns may be fired on overcharge mode, dealing +1 Damage but using two shots worth of ammunition per shot fired. Additionally, they may be fired on overload mode, dealing +2 Damage and gaining +2 Penetration. In this case they use four shots worth of ammunition per shot fired, lose Reliable, and gain Unreliable.
This replaces the overcharge pack option but leaves Hotshots on the table.
From Ascension: Fettered/Unfettered/Pushed rules are allowed for psychic powers. Despite it being fitting and representative of the powers in question, I'm not a fan of a possible warp incursion due to a psyker casting some minor power.
From Houserule: Corpus Conversion
One can voluntarily take 3 dmg to increase his next power roll by d10. This is a free action and can be done up to a number of times in a round equal to his WP Bonus. Obviously, death will close in if this is overdone. Additionally, if the extra d10 rolled is a 10, that psyker permanently loses 1 point of Toughness.
From Houserule: If your career/origin has a Trade (xyz) skill that you can reasonably explain why it should be a different one, please feel free. There's too many copyists in the galaxy.
I would be interested in this, as it has been a while since I've played this game and my books have been gathering dust.
Would a Heretik Techpriest interested in alien technology fit into your scenerio? If it wouldnt then I feel that a ex-gang leader scum would be an interesting twist to what I usually play

I am interested! I am thinking about making a tech-priest, although no firm concept as yet.
However, I feel I ought to disclaim in the interests of honesty: I'm GMing two games at the moment, and in the past I have been forced to drop out of a game in which I was a player due to the time pressure. I don't like flaking on someone's game, but I have to put my own games first.
Recently my circumstances have changed and I anticipate I will have more free time, which is why I'm thinking about giving this a whirl, but I felt I should warn you about this up front.
Thats quite alright, I assumed so but felt like asking just in case. I will begin fleshing out my scum idea now. Do you have anything that would impact either the mechanics or history of my lady that I should know about beyond what you stated in your introductions?

Alright, I have my concept. Below is the crunch; the background will follow. Apologies for the double post; this post has a die roll in it so I can't edit it in to the one above.
This is the construction spoiler – open if you want to see every step of how he was built. I used the core book and the Lathe Worlds supplement.

Septimus Shryke
Spoiler
Born on the hive world of Cantus, it is not known outside the inner circles of the Lathes at what age Septimus Shryke was inducted into the Acuitor Set. Perhaps it was that he was more personable than his fellow mech-wrights, more ready to dissemble and mislead; perhaps it was that he had a natural propensity for murder. Quite possibly, it was both.
Generally assuming the role of some middle-ranking tech-priest, Shryke would insert himself quietly into organisations and societies in which the Cult Mechanicus felt they had enemies. Imperial society is dependent on its technology, and Shryke exploited this dependence to the full. No-one questions the repair-man, the maintenance crew, the inspecting enginseer. Moving unseen through his environment, he would silently carry out his investigations, maintaining his cover until he could identify his target.
The methods used by the Acuitors vary widely. Shryke's complete kill-list will probably never be known, but from those deaths which have been linked to the tech-priest, a theme of technological sabotage becomes apparent. On Landunder, the Arcellan dynasty were annihilated when the cogitators controlling their deep-water airlocks developed an inexplicable fault, flooding their penthouse with some six hundred tons of pressurised sea-water. On Lathe-Het, the Malatek Janus Ormulate was killed by a fatal dose of radiation when the safeguards on his experimental reactor mysteriously failed, sealing him and four of his assistants inside during a supposedly routine inspection. On Tsade II, an automated omni-harvester took an unplanned detour from its programmed route to rip through a meeting of the Metcalfe trade consortium, and on Cantus an unknown number of civilians died in a malfunction of the ventilation systems on the Hive Augusta deep rail, now known as the Great Asphyxiation.
The change in Septimus' career path came when pursuing another target: a House Krin banker whose financial activities were endangering the productivity of the Lathes. Shryke had identified the culprit, and was ready to strike, when he realised he was not the only agent on the financier's trail. Wishing to leave no loose ends, he set a trap for his opposite numbers: it was only when they anticipated the “accident” in the Servitor depot and caught him in the act that he realised he might have met his match.
His opposite numbers were acolytes of Inquisitor Glavius Wroth, investigating the banker for crimes far darker than his sins against the Mechanicus. Once it had been established that their captive was not an agent of their enemy, Wroth immediately saw the potential in Shryke: not only was the tech-priest a powerfully intelligent infiltrator, but he was also a window into the secret heart of the Mechanicus. Shryke was offered a choice: accept the consequences of his attack on Inquisition personnel, or accept that he was forever in Wroth's debt. It wasn't much of a choice.
Wroth requested Shryke's services without any hint that he knew of the tech-priest's secret profession: not desiring to attract attention by a mysterious refusal, the Lathes accepted. Shryke now lives a double life, serving two masters: the Inquisitor, and the directives of the Acuitor Set. With every assignation he accepts from Wroth, he knows he risks betraying the secrets of his priesthood to the Inquisition; at the same time, as a keenly intelligent man, he cannot resist the challenge of Inquisition work.
Despite his acolyte's emotionless facade, Wroth sees this clearly. Manipulating Septimus' boredom and curiosity, he has the tech-priest in the palm of his hand.
TL,DR: 99% of the time, he is the friendly tech-priest fixing your boiler. 1% of the time, you are on a secret Mechanicus hit-list and are killed by an exploding boiler the day after he leaves.
Okay, I'm thinking either a firebrand Arbitrator (I'm going to see DREDD this afternoon!), using the Confessor alternative first rank from Blood of Martyrs.
The concept will be one that has unyielding Faith in the Lex Imperialis and the structures of the Imperium.
And no, he'll never remove his helmet.

Spoiler
Arbitrator Gethsemane is from the many-blessed world of Maccabeus Quintus. The people of Maccabeus Quintus are known for being blessed, many times over. The good Arbitrator knows that, and applies it to his daily service of the Lex Imperialis.
He cares little for the usual Ecclesiastical nonsense of the Adeptus Ministorum. He sees the Emperor's Divinity in the laws he has laid down, and how their unique knowledge of the human condition allows the Law to operate.
He could have become a priest as a boy, but chose to lay down the law instead. He thought preaching and singing had nothing on practical applications of faith, punishing the guilty and burning witches.
So, aye, he'd been immersed in the faith as a boy, and gone through much of the schooling, but he was willingly tithed to another Adeptus on his coming of age. There would be no pulpit preaching for Victor Gethsemane, he was going to be an Arbitrator. He'd bring faith and judgement to the unclean.
He stamped on heretics and yelled a lot. Life was good. Well, it could only get better. Of course, things didn't go as expected.
Gethsemane was assigned to a precinct on Scintilla. Pretty standard: It was a good place for rookies to get training. His rigid faith in the law was well respected; even if he was considered less personable than the others, he still had a fair amount of presence, and a hell of a loud voice.
He was part of a fifty-strong team, pulled from the reserves of the Golgenna Reach sub-sector and assigned an 'easy' mission to give those without experience, or recuperating from injuries, the opportunity to bash in a starving cult hiding in the mines. The young Arbitrator relished the opportunity.
It went wrong. It was a Throne-damned charnel house. A maze of horrific traps and deadfalls. The Arbitrators were massacred, few surviving. Gethsemane still says little of the misadventure, describing it simply as "An investigation of prohibited occult practices, followed by a routine Castigation Purge."
Of course, the fact that he was one of only a handful of survivors from the original fifty, and that the following purge was large in scale and involved the Inquisition says otherwise. The other survivors whisper about how Gethsemane rallied some of his comrades with faith in the Emperor and a resolute determination to get the job done and enforce the law. The rumoured summary execution of his superior officer for dereliction of duty and failing to act probably helped too.
Those that survived were largely scooped up by the Inquisition, destined for greater things (or purgation). Gethsemane moved into the role of Inquisitorial footsoldier easily. His unflinching resolve and conviction made him perfect for jobs that were too brutal for others.
For his actions in the following years, largely involving punishing the followers of Lady Orlea Grey, actually Myrchella Sinderfell, he has gained favour with his superiors, even being awarded a Sacristan Bolt Pistol, which are given only to trusted Acolytes of respected Inquisitors.
Still, the Crimson Countess remains at large. She is currently, under her Lady Orlea Grey alias, wanted for the following crimes: Proscribed occult activities, promotion of proscribed occult activities, obstruction of the Imperial Tithe, heresy, treason, the attempted murder of seven Arbitrators and the murder of forty-two Arbitrators. She, as Myrchella Sinderfell, is wanted for far worse, but that is largely classified.
Gethsemane hopes to get the opportunity for rev... no, justice, upon her, but knows that this is unlikely. Personal vendettas blind one to the fact that there are potentially billions of heretics out there needing sentenced. He has a duty to do, but, should the opportunity come up, her screams will be ten times those of the Judges she left smeared across the Red Vaults.

Right, I accidentally stumbled across a way to get a stupidly high starting wealth: By selling Shield Robes.
I'm willing to toss out a lot of my remaining wealth, and, for the most part, I've went for standard issue Arbites gear. The power maul isn't as powerful as it looks, since I have to use it in 'shock setting' most of the time, not yet having power weapon training. The armour is expensive, but isn't much better than the cheaper alternatives.

I'll express an interest. Given that it's a Puritan game... as a Sororitas of some description, I think. I'll have a look at the options and back a more definite choice, but I've always enjoyed the RP opportunities playing a Sister gives you.

Sounds very interesting. I'm thinking about a cleric or an arbitrator character, but I'll see after some more deliberation what I'll end up with ("kid in candy store" syndrome and all that).
EDIT: If I may ask, given the puritan theme of this story, would you deem the "Tainted Schola" background (Radical's Handbook pg. 29) overly radical and thus inappropriate for your campaign?

I didn't plan on it, and was originally writing my character sheet, selling off the Arbitrator gear... then stopped, thinking "Damn, I wasted time, and I've got some crappy Cleric gear to sell. How much is the armoured dress wor... Five THOUSAND?!"
Still, it allowed me to buy the list of standard issue gear for Arbitrators, and have money left over, which, like I said, I'm glad to toss out. The current background is a work in progress.

Date of Birth: Unknown

Aptitude Tests:
Arbitrator Gethsemane has performed admirably in all of his assigned aptitude tests, falling well within acceptable parameters in all fields (with the exception of Marksmanship).
Case Outcomes:
Arbitrator Gethsemane has not performed exceptionally well in investigative roles, not having been given Detective training in preparation for such, this was the fault of his superior officer, who suffered the appropriate reprimand. (See: Gunmetal City Narcotics Raid #3,751)
He has been involved in riot suppression on several instances, and acquitted himself as an Arbitrator is expected to. (See: Suppressions in the Golgenna Reach, Pristine Bulwark Support Roles)
Most recently, however, he was assigned to [CLASSIFIED: CASE FILES DENIED] as a part of a live-fire training exercise. In spite of [REDACTED] he successfully [REDACTED] and was one of seven survivors out of fifty forty-nine Adeptus Arbites.
Well, well, well. Against my better judgment, can't turn this down.

What do we have at this point, then...? Looks like an... extremely twitchy detective. Might have barely made the grade or even washed out of the Schola's training program. Hey, you. Yes, you. Come on. SMILE.
For some reason, last year, the Inquisition wanted to provide the Adeptus Arbites with a helping hand, with its propaganda machine. Adept Scipio Julius of the Hive Sibellus Broadcasting Unit was assigned to one Arbitrator Gethsemane on a routine operation...
The pict-recorder looks at the floor, steel, of course. Armoured boots, various sizes, uniform gunmetal toecaps and black colouration. They don't move. The camera jolts a little, giving an impression of motion.
It pans up. Yes, they're moving, and in some sort of vehicle. It pans around. Yes, a Rhino, in the common parlance. A group of heavily armed and armoured individuals sit, ramrod straight, as the personnel carrier moves around. The viewer can, of course, hear the armoured treads of their conveyance moving, and at some speed. That probably indicates that there is some sort of emergency. That and the gunfire.
The reporter, next to the pict-recorder operator, looks terrified. His face blanches as something explodes outside.
The lead Arbitrator, his name-badge saying 'Gethsemane' speaks up in a voice that sounds like it's trying (and failing) to be emotionless. Its emotions seem to be a mixture of boredom and anger. He seems to be rhyming off things the others already know. Was this standard procedure, to make sure there were no mistakes, or was it for the benefit of the recording?
"Guilty parties have gathered unlawfully in the central plaza.
Known crimes are as follows: Unlawful association, Sedition and Rioting. The sentence can vary from violent dispersal to a twenty year incarceration with the associated indentured servitude.
Suspected crimes are as follows: Illicit Occult Activity, Association with Wanted Occultists and Treason. Should these crimes not promptly be proven false, the sentence is, of cou-"
As the Rhino appears to slow to a stop, the distinctive ping of bullets ricocheting off its armoured hull can be easily heard, causing Arbitrator Gethsemane to pause, and raise a finger to indicate a change of plan.
"Re-evaluation: Guilty parties' known crimes now include Assault on the Adeptus Arbites. Suspected crimes now include Attempted Murder of Adeptus Arbites. The sentence is, of course, death.
Use lethal force."
He looks down at the floor for a moment. His lips move, but the words are inaudible. It looks like he's... offering a prayer? It's hard to tell, as the camera is jolted a little as he does so.
And with that, the Arbitrators ritually rack the slides on their heavy shotguns, the loud noise sounding like a drumbeat. The reporter swallows and attempts to look enthusiastic. He looks down at his brightly coloured flak armour, then looks at the grim carapace worn by the men and women of the law. He obviously thinks his orange jacket makes him look a target now. Hell.
The exits slide open, revealing dazzling daylight and smoke, a change from the dim red lights of before. Such bright daylight was odd in Sibellus: It is one of the biggest Hives in the Calixis Sector, after all. Still, they were on the outside of the Hive, so it happened sometimes, if the winds were strong enough to blow away the smog.
The Arbitrators storm out, nervously followed by the news team. Gunfire and the crack of las-fire can be heard, until a very obvious censor cuts out all sound from the video when chanting can be heard from the rioters.
Various flashes. The Arbitrators continue on, unshaken, the rebels and rioters clutching at their blinded eyes as they are gunned down mercilessly.
One man lies on the ground, apparently screaming, his leg torn apart by a shell. A Judge pumps another cartridge into the chamber of her shotgun, ready to end him at point-blank range.
The sound comes back on. Yes, screaming.
Arbitrator Gethsemane puts a hand on the Judge's shoulder, and shakes his head at her.
"Unnecessary ammunition expenditure."
He then stamps his boot onto the head of the injured man, crushing his skull like a grapefruit. It is hard to tell if there is a weapon near him.
It's a massacre, of course. There's no way the Adeptus Arbites would release a video showing anything else. Of course, it shows legions of soldiers at the end, and happy citizens thanking the Judges for their courage, but that could have been on a different planet for all that the viewer can tell.
Funnily enough, the video never actually got broadcast to the general public. The reporter and the cameraman were both recruited by the Inquisition on grounds of 'bearing witness to the profane and responding appropriately'.

So, yeah, I watched DREDD today (It was awesome!). Any chance of my fire selectors being voice operated?
Also: I see Arbitrator Gethsemane as mainly being a party buffer, his Faith powers make him able to boost melee and ranged attacks of allies (his are decent, but not great, himself) and help out with scaring the hell out of people. Aside from being scary (target number of 60 for Intimidate checks and also high for Interrogation), he isn't very social. His main job is boosting others' damage and drawing fire, it seems.
He has an unsettling demeanour and rigid focus on his beliefs, which have an effect on those around him. A simple 'Lethal force authorised by divine legal mandate' causes his comrades to steel themselves and cause immense damage, knowing the rightness of their cause.
Edit:
How long have the cell been together?
I'd advise we save some of our experience with which to buy a Cell Directive, and also buy Secret Tongue (Acolyte), if we have worked together already.

There's the mechanical basis of my character. Intended role in the party is mostly combat support, though she also has a few social abilities to aid in the investigations. She can also drive and fly, which should be quite useful.
In terms of personal demeanor, she's basically the archetypical Guard veteran. Confident, experienced, and able to stay almost unnaturally calm when the bullets are flying. I'll detail it more thoroughly later, possibly with some fiction like blunt pencil added.

Anyway, in his first notable assignment, he was part of a fifty-strong team, pulled from the reserves of the Golgenna Reach sub-sector and assigned an 'easy' mission to give those without experience, or recuperating from injuries, the opportunity to bash in a starving cult hiding in the mines. The young Arbitrator relished the opportunity, I'm led to believe.
It went wrong. It was a Throne-damned charnel house. A maze of horrific traps and deadfalls. The Arbitrators were massacred, few surviving. Gethsemane still says little of the misadventure, describing it simply as, ahem, "An investigation of prohibited occult practices, followed by a routine Castigation Purge."
Those that survived were largely scooped up by agents of our own Ordos, destined for greater things (or purgation). Gethsemane moved into the role of Inquisitorial footsoldier easily. His unflinching resolve and conviction made him perfect for jobs that were too brutal for others. We all saw the mess after that riot in Sibellus, didn't we? Wowee.
Anyway, for his actions in the following years, largely involving punishing the followers of Lady Orlea Grey, actually Myrchella Sinderfell, he has gained favour with his superiors, including myself, even being awarded a Sacristan Bolt Pistol, which are given only to trusted Acolytes of respected Inquisitors, such as, well, you know. Right...
She, as Myrchella Sinderfell, is wanted for far worse, but that is largely classified to extreme levels.
Gethsemane probably hopes to get the opportunity for rev... no, justice, upon her, but I assume he knows that this is unlikely. Personal vendettas blind one to the fact that there are potentially billions of heretics out there needing sentenced. He has a duty to do, but, should the opportunity come up, her screams will be ten times those of the Judges she left smeared across the Red Vaults. He's not abandoned a mission to chase down leads... but I've seen what he's done to others that were involved in that nightmare. Most unpleasant but most impressive, I must say. Whew."

A Day In The Life
Spoiler
"Hello again, sir. As requested, another report on our Acolyte Gethsemane, following the 'Hearts and Minds' debacle of last year.
Anyway, as you know, for some reason, last year, the Inquisition wanted to provide the Adeptus Arbites with a helping hand with its propaganda machine. Adept Scipio Julius of the Hive Sibellus Broadcasting Unit, along with his cameraman, Davos Maximus, was assigned to our Arbitrator Gethsemane on a routine operation... Here we go..."
"...Funnily enough, the video never actually got broadcast to the general public. The reporter and the cameraman were both recruited by myself on grounds of 'bearing witness to the profane and responding appropriately'. They've gotten over their squeamishness quite admirably thanks to our law enforcing friend... so I guess the whole propaganda idea got us something useful.
What I want to know is why he's considered interesting, and why he's filed along with dozens of priests and...
Yes, above my pay grade, sir. Shutting up, sir. "
Finished! But I can alter things to allow for linked characters: Cell Directives, Secret Tongue (Acolyte), etc etc.
The backstory introduce NPCs he has been involved with in the past. I can change them and their names if needed.

I would like to request an Elite advance or two. Specifically, Charm and Decieve. In my head, Gideon is a sniper, but also a social assassin. He stands around at a party, regaling the group with his tales of daring-do on the battlefield, the classic bluff old soldier- but when the party retires to their beds, a particular noble, his wealth built on the trade of proscribed artefacts, finds Gideon in his room, knife out.
He has a few Peer talents, good fellowship, and the Noble Born homeworld boosting him... but Assassins can't take either Charm or Deceive until a few ranks after his current level. So i'd like to request Charm or Deceive, particularly Charm, as elite advances. I'd be willing to pay 200xp each, but would much happier if i could buy them for 100xp instead.
In addition, the background i'm writing makes me wonder if i can take Peer (Impressionable Young Women)
I'd also like to request an Elite Advance. Namely, the Jaded talent. Oddly, as far as I can see, Guardsmen can't actually get the talent normally, even though something which renders you immune to mundane horrors seems entirely fitting for a Veteran soldier.
I'd offer, say, 200xp for it.

Concerning Elite Advances, I'm fairly open to these.
So as a general rule, let's call it 200xp for skills/talents outside of your reach. The talents in particular are subject to approval to avoid abuse of this system. But I will look over each of these so mark them as elite advances please ;)
EDIT: put the sheets through with the 200xp expenditure and if it requires more or less, I'll say so at the end.
