Burning Wheel Gold interest check (No Longer Recruiting)

Hello everyone! I'm looking to start a new Burning Wheel campaign (my first) and was hoping to pick up a few players.

I'm going for a rather strict posting schedule of 4 per week. Due to the nature of PbP games fizzling out, you'll only get 1 free shot at missing posts without notice. If there's something going on that you'll be posting slower, let me know and I'll work it out.

No previous Burning Wheel experience is necessary. Hell, this is MY first time playing the system. It will be a learning experience for all of us.

My plan is to come up with a few "Big Picture" ideas for the world and then have you choose which one you'd most like to play.

If all this sounds good, then let me know and we'll get this rolling!

I haven't played the system, but I own Gold. I would love to give it a shot and the newbie friendly attitude here seems perfect.

I want to apply for this. I don't usually like pbp, but I think Burning wheel works rather well for it. That's if you are up for getting a new player.

Finally! I didn't think the forums were ever going to come back.

I've come up with a few "Big Picture" ideas for us to start with. If any of these sound interesting to you, just note it below. If you guys can all agree on one you like, or if we come up with something different, we'll do a little cooperative world burning before we begin on characters.

1. PC's are small time thugs who steal something they shouldn't have from someone they shouldn't have. Hi jinks ensue.

2. PC's are soldiers and are charged with recovering the spare heir from his command after a horrific event that killed the king and his first born.

3. A vile sorcerer has cast a spell over the world that makes the dead walk again. After a vicious war that left most dead, you are one of mankind's last hopes for survival. PC's play low power 3 LP characters.

4. Due to some sudden circumstance, one of the PC's is forced to tell the others that the current king is a fraud and that he is the one true king.

Does everyone have a copy of Burning Wheel Gold? If not, you can get the first 75 pages, known as the "Hub & Spokes", here.

Another option that I didn't think of, was that I could run "The Sword". It's a Burning Wheel demo scenario with pre-generated characters. This would give you an introduction to the game and systems before starting a full blown campaign.

Absolutely. I can run with four just fine, I believe. I will have to close the doors after that. I'll be sure to change the title to "No Longer Recruiting".

I like these two scenarios the most. Although as a major Burning Wheel newbie, it might be informative to run The Sword as an introduction to the system.

If you'd like some info from the sword without having to play it, here's a video of Luke Crane (creator of Burning Wheel) running it for some folks at GenCon 2011. If you're going top watch it, set aside some time, I think it runs about two hours.

I've rearranged them in the order I'd be most interested in playing.

It seems idea #4 is in the lead, but we have yet to hear from Drugged Dwarf. As soon as we get his input and we decide on which idea to go with, I'll move this over to another thread.

I 100% Agree with number 4, followed VERY closely by Number 1.

As much as I would love to do the Sword campaign, we're doing a pbp, and those take FOREVER. We should probably start with the main event.

I'd prefer to get the world created and defined before we start on character burning.

BTW, It's very cool that you're so excited to play. I've had the books without playing for a similar amount of time.
