So, looking through this section, I've seen a few great "learning to draw" threads. Being as I too am attempting to learn to art, I figured I'd give this a whirl as well.

The goal, as with the other threads, will be one drawing per day - Anything from a sketch to a fully done digital painting - whatever I can toss out there.

I'm doing this on top of trying to finish up a Champions Online webcomic >_> So I'm intentionally loading myself down with art in the interest of forcing myself to focus on my work, rather than my usual "just do it whenever the heck".

This is a character I hope to play in a play by post campaign. She's a Half-Elf cleric divination specialist.

Wasn't really happy with it so I didn't color it.

I've never done chibi style before >.> I was fairly pleased how it came out, though my lines, as always, kinda suck. I also experimented with using color for ink, instead of black lines like I usually do.

Was fairly pleased with this. Far from perfect, but it's better anatomy than I can usually pull off.

Good start, but i think those eyes are in the biggest need of revisions. Their style is very "Dominic Deegan"-like, in how they don't describe an actual eye shape (round-ish, as opposed to square-ish).

Maybe try different eye styles for your next exercise? Get that sorted out early.

Just a sketch today. I was trying to think of what to draw and it kinda hit me that I needed to let my imagination play a bit to really get something... which kind of recursively lead to "kid playing Knight".

This is an odd style for me, it's more Disney than anime. Which isn't wrong or anything, just different and unexpected; but I think it suits the sketch well. Definitely not complaining.

I decided not to finish it up though, at least for now. Inking is stressful compared to sketching, and I need to relax heh >.<

@Domochevsky - Oddly enough, my eyes are one of the few things I'm actually somewhat happy with. They're fa
from perfect of course, but they're the way they are mostly by intent rather than accident.

Now that said, that doesn't mean I'm not the sort to branch out - I'll try a more realistic piece tomorrow and use more realistic eyes for that.

I wanted to give a more realistic face a try, like I said I would yesterday - but I was disgusted with how my lines were turning out. So I decided to turn it into a painting. It's by no means amazing or anything <x.x> I did my best but I've not done a whole lot of painting, so while I'm aware of some of the general principles, it's not an art form I'm particularly familiar with.

That said? It was fun. Definitely something I'll do again in the near future.

The original source is a photo I found on Google Image Search; it was beautiful < ._.> kinda hard not to paint something that cool.

Starting to think I need some new brushes for GIMP though. < . .> I know I can use photoshop brushes, but they're kind of a pain to integrate into GIMP >.<

<._.> X-Com comes out tomorrow... being as I *adored* the original and was pretty deep into Apocalypse as well; well... I'm excited. So here's a sectoid!

I may do another pic today as well since this was absurdly fast/simple, but I have a lot of webcomic stuff that needs done too, so we'll see.

I am saddened to announce that there won't be a picture today. <;_;> My Wacom's USB cord broke; and my scanner is terrible so I'm not going to use that.

So you're free of my mediocrity for a day >_> (maybe a week depending on if I can get a new cord at Radioshack or not. All depends on if I can find a compatible connector.)

I did another chibi today, this time based on Kera Tembler up in the first post. I'm not as pleased how this one came out for some reason, in comparison to the previous chibi. Still, I worked hard at it, and I think I've learned some things for future chibicrafting, so that's important <^_^>

Traditionally I don't post sketches if I've got a colored and finished piece to show; but this time I feel the sketch is a good cut above the finished piece in some way.

Been pretty depressed and nothing feels like it's 'clicking'. Still, I didn't want to let myself entirely off the hook for today so...

It's just a quick very rough sketch. Like I said, nothing was really clicking today <x.x> I wouldn't post it at all, but since I'm kind of art-blogging and this is all I've accomplished today, I figured I may as well. If I can shake this bleh then I'll do another and replace it.

Started this early yesterday but it took longer than anticipated.

It's an update of an old piece I did a little over two years ago now. For comparison that one is here at my DA page.

I'd say this one is overall a step up... though I do miss the enlarged portrait behind the action pose; that had some character to it, and the larger size of the face allowed for a more varied shape.

Still, it's improvement, if not as much as I'd like. < . .>
