Just wondering, but Can I have a negative rep with this Rep Trait [Onsecurity]. It's not that I'm feared, it's just that most people don't really know about us.

Is Reputation functioning similarly to WO in this game? Or is it just other's opinion of you?
And are there no VIPs in this game?

Kalna Amgarrak
Alternately known as The Reborn Rhunic Shogunate (RRS)
Description:
Spoiler
Ages ago, before the Empire's creation, this land was home to a mighty nation of dwarves, sprawled across the continent. The Rhunic Shogunate. Its forgeholds dotted the surface, with mines digging deep within the earth for precious metals and gems, belching forth black smoke as they crafted weapons, armor, and tools with skill we can barely rival today. With a realm spread across the surface and depths, the dwarves paused in wonder. The spirits had gifted them with such bounty and prosperity... But they turned back to their work, as they had no time to dawdle.
Not content with simply mastering this land and stagnating, a succession of Shoguns pushed for a naval expedition to explore what lay beyond the horizon, to map the world and bring its wealth back to the forgeholds. But whatever they discovered and found was lost to us in this day and age as this great civilization was brought to a premature end. The birth of our own glorious empire placed the two cultures into conflict, and for reasons I personally am unsure of, we came out the victor. Whether due to cowardice or disaster, the dwarven army vanished. The civilians of the forgeholds quickly sued for peace, agreeing to subject themselves to the Empire's rule and arm the Legions for a century under the Treaty of Khaz Mordun. With the Shogunate's dissolution and newly acquired dwarven weaponry, our ancestors easily drove out the remaining powers of the land and took total control.
In the time since, the Rhunic clans have become economic powerhouses, providing superior goods throughout the Empire as well as trading other's products across many markets. They still retain their skill as smiths, shipwrights, and sailors though due to the Treaty they signed all those centuries ago, they are barred from martial service of any kind. If only we could have seen what would have happened had their armies not deserted them in their time of need...
-Excerpt from Pre-Imperial Times, written by Lord Harris, the Imperial Historian to the Emperor
Unbeknownst to the Empire, the dwarf clans have toiled in secret, spending years preparing their plot to reclaim their lands from the Legions' blades. Their military had vanished all those years ago not out of fear, but out of logic. The Empire was too strong to combat, so Clan Madhammer (the soldiers and marines of the Kingdom) took to the seas on their fleet of ironclads, heading far away from their place of birth to await a time when the Empire could be beaten. The other clans stayed behind, to go about their own preparations. Money, power, connections. With time, you could acquire anything. So they built themselves into economic superpowers, leveraging their naval and crafting traditions to muscle out smaller competition, and acquiring contacts and agents across the realm.
Then the Emperor had to go and get himself killed. The call to the fleet was sounded, a century before the appointed time. With the return of Madhammer, the Clans have rallied their combined might behind their Shogun, prepared to use all their resources in a fight to rebuild their shattered nation.
Daggers in night drawn
Battle standards raised on high
The Clans march on home
Stats (Work in progress still)
Spoiler
Military: Extremely High. Every dwarf of Clan Madhammer is trained from the moment he or she can stand upright in how to fight and how to sail. They have lived for this moment, for the time to come when they march to reclaim their homeland.
Espionage: Extremely High. The merchant clans have spent centuries obtaining contacts and training operatives in their pursuit of economic domination. Now, they are activating their cells to begin paving the way for the liberation.
Wealth: Extremely High. The clans have spent centuries taking control of the economic world. They have a veritable army of craftsmen, merchants, lawyers, and couriers.
Technology: None. Along with the enforced disarmament of the merchant clans, the Empire required them to halt all scientific developments in order to prevent secret developments of weaponry. The clans have since utilized their wealth to acquire any inventions necessary for their business, preferring not to anger their former occupier.
Morale: Average. While the dwarves are united in their goal of rebuilding their civlization, they also have a number of issues in reintegrating the disparate clans. Their racial pride has helped alleviate the most severe issues,
Reputation: None. While the merchant clans are relatively well known, the Shogunate is not. The fleets have only just arrived and have yet to fully disembark the battalions. The world has yet to learn to fear the dwarves fury...
Magic: None. The Runecasters were the first targets of the Empire's invasion long ago, and the art was lost. Some of the clan hope to delve into the lost forgehomes to attempt to revive the tradition, but there are more immediate concerns in Shogun Osric's eyes.

Thing is, I'd be know, just very obsure. Average kid might have 1 short lesson on us in their life, and only a few know anything close to the true extent of our holdings.

The Spinning Coin Emporium was relativly small before the Empire fell. War is a great way to earn money as armies need weapons, armor, food and what not. Citizens are desperate and will turn in all their wealth just to get their family save. Roonwicket Nuggetpicker , a Gnome Merchant and inventor understood this concept and made his business grow from a small family business (The Spinning Coin) to a huge emporium. If you need it, the Emporium has it. If they don`t have, they can get it.
Stats:
Spoiler
Military: Low, The Spinning Coin Emporium has some muscle as protection. If need be they just buy more.
Espionage: High, Supply and Demand is the base of trading. Therefore knowing the demand before someone asks gives you a headstart in negotiations.
Wealth: High, war has filled the Emporiums coffers. There is little money can not buy
Technology: Medium, The Nuggetpickers are cunning and understand technology and engeneering. Trade is now their main focus though, tinkering a hobby.
morale: Medium, The Nuggetpickers are very loyal to eachother. The other merchants working for the emporium usually work on a "Highest Bidder" base.
Reputation: Medium, If you need something the Emporium usually has it. This also means shady business is done.
magic: Low, The Shinning Coin Emporium has some artifacts but no real magic on its own. They usually combine little magic they have with technology.
Triat:
Spoiler
There is little money can not buy - Im not exactly sure but im thinking of something that makes The Shinning Coin Emporium able to use wealth in a more efficient way to increase other stats temporary...or something like that.
Or another idea i got now: Paperwork? Leave that to the trolls. - The Spinning Coin Emporium can get you want you want...fast, paperwork is for trolls we care only about coin and service.
Just in time, it seems. I've got a little free time, now, so I should have a faction up shortly.
Edit 1:I'm done reading the thread. The seed has been determined. I am now writing.
Edit 2:
The Foundation
Description
Spoiler
Site name: Factory 01
Established: 310 CE <if you have a date system already, this would be 1.5 centuries before the game's start>
Purpose: Production of materiel
Location: 1.5 Km NWW of the Lhusu Mining Complex
Notes: Since its establishment, Factory 01 has provided a large amount of our military equipment. Its proximity to the Lhusu mines has made it well able to arm our armies.
Site name: Factory 02
Established: 331 CE
Purpose: Production of experimental material
Location: 2.3 Km south of Factory 01
Notes: [redacted]
"These notes are publicly available within the empire. They give general locations of two of our facilities and provide just enough information that they would make tempting targets for any that would seek an advantage in the present upheaval.
Being that the neutrality of the Factories is something which is not to be contested, and given that, were the Factories to be left in their current state, someone would inevitably seek to subjugate them, I propose the following motions.
1.) That a central command, designation O5, be formed.
2.) That 05 command be tasked with the following goals:
a.) Defense of all facilities of the Foundation.
b.) Re-acquisition of any facilities which come to be occupied by external forces.
3.) In support of these goals, the Foundation is to take the following actions.
a.) All facilities are to turn their production to the support of the Foundation for duration of the crisis. In particular, O5 command is to be supported.
b.) All local militia units are report to O5 command.
c.) O5 command is to be invested with the power to hire mercenaries and other personnel at its discretion.
All against? For? Then the motion passes."
Stats:
Spoiler
Military: low
Spoiler
The foundation has long relied upon the empire for its defense. As such, its militia tended to only last long enough for imperial forces to arrive. Under 05 command's direction, however, this is changing rather quickly.
Espionage: Low-medium
Spoiler
The foundation has long held a favored position in the empire, and one that they considered unassailable. They are not blind to the subtleties of espionage, however.
Wealth: Very High
Spoiler
The foundation is, first and foremost, a collection of some of the largest factories, mines, labs, and other facilities in the empire.
Technology: Medium-high
Spoiler
The foundation is not blind to the march of technology. To keep their power base, their labs have seen to it that they stay ahead of most of the competition.
Morale: Medium
Spoiler
The workers of the foundation aren't that motivated, but the pay is nice.
Spoiler
The foundation isn't very well known, but as they tend to provide people with items they tend to be relatively well liked.
Magic: Medium
Spoiler
One of the stranger offshoots of their research is that of alchemy. Several in the foundation have found it to be interesting, so if one knows where to look they could probably find a lab or two within the various facilities of the foundation.
Influence: 0
Spoiler
The foundation isn't really looking for influence, just to keep its holdings. It just so happens that those holdings are a tad influential.
Traits:
Spoiler
Will of the Foundation: When the foundation votes to carry out a project, that project will be pursued effectively by all designated assets.
Stats spent to effect projects are used more efficiently.
I'm guessing that turn 1 will be occurring immediately following the Emperor's death?

So should a faction of the empire (such as the 1st legion) attempt to rebuild the empire would you support oppose or remain neutral in this endevor? And should the empire eventually be reestablished to a reasonable extent would you peacefully integrate into it? This will basically determine the legion's position on the foundation. Should the nominally support the re-establishment of the empire the legion will be friendly. Should they oppose... Well the legion has a high MIL for a reason
To All:
Ya, as you may have noticed when I play the legion I will have no compulsion against attacking PCs. Should a PC that opposes the empire's re-establishment start near me they will be attacked quickly and brutally. Just a warning. Anyone near the legion with a low MIL should probably keep any anti-empire sentiments quiet.

The foundation still considers itself to be a part of the empire, and has little interest in who the new emperor might be unless said emperor would be opposed to them.
It would be to the foundation's advantage to see the empire re-established to such an extent that it is capable of resuming its past duties for the foundation (defense against any invaders, well-guarded roads, etc.). However, until such time as a clear imperial faction makes itself apparent, I'll be doing my best to remain neutral to any faction not occupying a foundation facility.
In short, I'll continue business dealings as normal with imperial factions, but no monopoly should be expected.

The Deep Trolls are part of the Empire, and the Higher up's know what they've been up to. As they don't contribute much, it's been seen as not so much of a loss.
Ya, some people know better, but it's mostly the dwarves/those things from outside.

The union isn't in open rebellion yet. As long as no one tries to exploit their land they will just give support to other more active rebels. They are realists and won't try to stand against the legion in full war.

That will be enough to ensure that you are not a target of the legions wrath.

Ya, given the union's stated aims and given that they support rebels they will likely be the legions target as soon as they figure out that you are doing so. What's your ESP and Morale again? Just checked... If you don't openly say that you want to be independant then the legion might actually ignore you until they manage to get a spy behind your Very High Morale. After all if they don't know that you are supporting rebels then why would they attack you instead of said rebels? Question: Are the union open in their desires for independence? Or are they keeping quiet about it?
As to the trolls? They capitulated before, and will likely do so again should the empire be re-established. Their kinda low on my priority list.

Then? The Time was not right for war. Who knows what the morrow brings.
Yes, but the legion doesn't know that. They fully expect you to behave the same as last time. Unless you provoke them then they will either ignore you or trade/buy tech from you.

And so far as anyone knows, we're just polite cave dwellers Dwarves know better of course.
If the dwarves have even a modicum of intelligence they will realize that the legion will come towards them eventually (independence and all that). I don't think they will tell me your secrets.

i am officially closing recruitment now. we can transfer to the OOC when i put it up this evening. later today or tomorrow i will also begin PMing people their stats and traits. hopefully with any luck at all we can start this weekend.
also, i am sure some of you are familiar with me and my fascination with using quicktopics for EOTs and most questions. Should i continue with that or stick to the tradition of PMs?

To elaborate on this: Quicktopics are small, private threads that are hosted on quicktopic.com. They are completely private, but lack many of the amenities of these forums in terms of formatting (no bolding, etc.). As a GM, I would rather work with quicktopics -- unlike the PM system there's no cap on the number of PMs. It is also much more easy to look back to see what has happened previously in the thread when using a QT as opposed to PMs.
I liked the use of quicktopics during Epic Fantasy, so using them here would be good.

Sounds cool. Can't wait for the fighting. I wonder what the weirdest alliance will be.
i also wonder that. i have seen some pretty weird alliances such as one of the most respected nations in the world throwing in their lot with my faction of "freedom-fighters" wich are clearly closer to terrorists.
i believe we have most, if not all, of the stats figured out by now. am working on an OOC right now.

If I ally with the union and the mercenary army then that would be a laugh, as all three of us are fundamentally opposed to each other. That being said this time I am playing my factions values to the letter, so I doubt that that will happen.

I'll ally with just about anyone who clears out the orcs from my mines. If no-one steps up, though, I'll do it myself...

Could you post a link to OOC? I already found it, but do you really want everyone to have to search through the OOC forum for it?
