Spoiler
Character Sheets, including Experience Costs
=Willpower costs (Rating) XP to raise.
=Virtues cost (Rating x2) XP to raise.
=Each BP at character creation is replaced by 3 XP, including BP gained from flaws. (This appears to have resulted in characters with fewer weak spots than normal and Willpower 10 not being an automatic choice, with little change in overall power level.)
Mechanical Systems
=Simple combat between large numbers of extras will be resolved by opposed rolls using a variant of the Creation-Ruling Mandate system. The flow of battle will be 'checked' every 10 ticks by rolling (Charisma/Intelligence + War) against a difficulty of (Enemy Size+Competence)-(Own Competence) - with unled groups of Extras rolling (Competence) dice. (Yes, you can have a leader who reduces the competence of his troops, should he be ill-suited to battle tactics.)
=Sea battles will likely be handled by a more nuanced variant of the CRM system than extra-on-extra combat is handled with. (This is on my to-do list.)
=Craft is a single ability, with one free type of craft with the first dot. Further crafts cost 2 specialties each for mortals, or 1 specialty for Exalted.
=Backgrounds cannot be gained in play due to XP, nor can XP be spent to 'reinforce' them against loss. They can only be gained by actually gaining them (generally by devoting downtime to such pursuits, with appropriate die rolls.) Backgrounds can be attacked in the same manner - applying both to players AND to NPCs.
Specific Rulings
=Light opium smoking imposes a -1 internal penalty on all actions, but the smoker can ignore one die of their total wound penalties.
=The cannons from Scroll of Kings are silly, but currently still canon. They may be retroactively replaced by something less silly in the future. (This is on my to-do list.)
Wound Complication Rules (Now complete)
Spoiler
Mortals are squishy, frail beings! Wounds can cause five main complications: Bleeding, Infection, Disabling Wounds, Knockdown, and Stunning.
Exalted are extremely resistant to bleeding and infection, completely immune to disabling wounds, and vulnerable normally to knockdown and stunning.
Bleeding
=Lethal (or Aggravated!) damage causes bleeding. As long as a character suffers from bleeding, they take a level of unsoakable lethal damage every (Stamina) minutes.
=Stanching a single wound's bleeding is a (Wits+Medicine) Speed 5/DV -1 miscellaneous action, at a difficulty of the number of lethal/aggravated health levels lost to the wound.
=Strenuous activity - combat, most things involving athletics, and the like - will re-open stanched wounds for mortals.
Infection
=Infection is a risk in any drawn-out battle, as wounds become exposed to disease. It is Virulence 3, Untreated Morbidity 1 (rising by 1 each day), and the Treated Morbidity is the same as Untreated, but medical attention halts the rise in difficulty. The Difficulty to Treat is equal to the current Morbidity.
=If sterilized with alcohol within an hour, the Virulence drops to 2. If cauterized within an hour (one unsoakable bashing damage) then no check against Virulence need be made.
=On a botch, or when the Morbidity of infection exceeds the character's (Stamina+Resistance), the character spends the next (Stamina) days dying at a -4 wound penalty from agonizing fever.
=Treatment is a daily (Intelligence+Medicine) roll against the current Morbidity. Success keeps the Morbidity from rising higher.
=Once the character beats the Morbidity, the infection ceases, but wound penalties DO penalize rolls against infection.
=While actively infected, a character suffers a constant -2 internal penalty to all non-reflexive actions from fever and discomfort.
Disabling Wounds
=Mortals who suffer 4+ levels of lethal or aggravated damage from a single attack suffer a disabling wound with an equal number of levels. This manifests as 'phantom damage' - no matter how many health levels the character heals, they always suffer wound penalties as if they were missing that many health levels.
=Repairing a disabling wound requires an (Intelligence+Medicine) roll with a difficulty equal to the number of levels in a wound, and takes two hours per level. This surgery inflicts a number of unsoakable lethal health levels equal to the original wound, which can be infected but heal normally.
Knockdown
=Anyone who suffers more raw damage dice than their (Stamina+Resistance) is hurled to the ground unless they succeed on a reflexive (Dexterity/Stamina)+(Resistance/Athletics) roll of difficulty 2. Rising from Prone requires a miscellaneous action.
=Deliberately tackling someone prompts a knockdown check from BOTH parties, and stuns the target even if they succeed on the roll.
=Sweeping with a staff, chain, whip, or kick (or similar weapons) reduces the accuracy of the attack by -2, but if it hits it inflicts a knockdown check even if it does no damage.
Stunning
=Characters who suffer more actual levels of damage than their Stamina must check for Stunning, rolling (Stamina+Resistance) at a difficulty of (Damage Inflicted-Stamina) with failure inflicting a -2 penalty on all non-reflexive actions until the attacker's next action.

Session One In which the Lasonde is plundered, an undead ship rises and then falls, and many Windslave Disks are acquired. Additionally, the basics of combat are explored, and a handful of mechanical problems are found, considered, and rectified.
Summary
Spoiler
A guildsman has complained over drinks how, oh and isn't it a shame, the scavenger lord Two-tongue is trying to pull out his business! It's just so terrible how men can no longer trade honorably, but must be betrayed by those they trusted to work to the profit of all? Why, the man is even refusing Guild ships - he's assorting with the worst sort of scum, the smuggler-merchants of the Lasonde! He must have been planning such a thing behind the backs of his good friends in the guild for quite a time, for the ship is practically stuffed with crates of minor artifacts, a mere half of which would have bought him the finest services the Guild could offer for months to come!
A little research, a little questioning of the local wind elementals, and some swift sailing got the Black Dahlia within firing range of the Lasonde.
With her sails torn, it was a simple enough matter to board and demand cargo; the merchants onboard were not a serious problem (A handful thought that swarming Gratis might work. One punch later, the conscious ones backed down.)
Unfortunately, searching out those crates revealed them to be empty of all but a single skull with a bat carved into it.
At this point, a horrid wreck of a ship, held together by necromantically-enchanted bones across huge breaks in the structure, rose from the sea between the two ships, shoving them apart. Crewed by zombies and with a thaumaturge as dread captain, they challenged the pirate-lords. However... Gratis broke their lines, allowing Atlas and Iodannus to get through. Even the manifestation of two war ghosts turned out to be ultimately futile, as Atlas' magic wove around them and Gratis simply shoved them aside when the ghosts dared try to stop him.
The thaumaturge dead, the ship began to break apart at its no-longer-enchanted seams - but not before the pirates managed to grab many of the Windslave Disks that had allowed it to rise again to the surface as it had. Iodannus, with a keen eye towards profit, found the reserves of greed within himself to grab especially many.
Now, with a new pirate astounded into joining from his old merchant ship, the Black Dahlia fishes up the remaining disks to form an artifact hoard for the Guild. And, of course, the sail-less Lasonde floats but two ship-lengths away, still waiting for the pirates to take the rest of their plunder before they repair the sails.

Re: The Blacksea Scourge! [Exalted 2e, character sheets]
Personal To Do List: Invest XP in Bureaucracy and Socialize, in that order. Expand the reach and influence of the Black Sea Scourge, and capitalize upon both profitable business ventures, as well as keeping an eye out for individuals that could help further said goals. Improved firepower for the ships would be nice, as would specialized vessels that would make use of the newly acquired Windslave Disks. Also, as always, become more wealthy.
Re: The Blacksea Scourge! [Exalted 2e, character sheets]
Session Two In which the Guild's payment is sent, a wrongdoer is dealt with, and a friendship is built on vengeance promised. Plans for the next step (and explanation of the Creation-Ruling Mandate system) begin...
Summary
Spoiler
Five small scenes occurred during this session; they are included here in the order they were played out, but Scenes Two, Three, and Four were begun simultaneously In-Character. Scene Four, however, lasted longer In-Character, allowing for Scene Five to have Gratis and Iodannus already present when Atlas and Wyndham arrive.
Scene One - The Lasonde
As the sailors of the Black Dahlia fished up those floating Windslave Disks which they could, Iodannus and Gratis took a small boat back over to the Lasonde. Climbing up, they spoke with the Captain again briefly, and made a new agreement: The pirates would leave the rest of the cargo, and the captain of the Lasonde would do what he could to ensure that they were not pursued for taking the crates and Windslave disks. Bound together by their shared experience fighting the undead, the two ships part on more or less friendly terms.
While sailing back to Vapaas, the three Pirate-Lords discuss exactly how many Windslave Disks they can send to the Guild. Atlas is in favor of trying to undercut the Guild, Gratis believes the disks to be enchanted coins rather than true artifacts, and Iodannus is not quite sure how much he fears the Guild - does he side with Atlas for profit now, give the Guild extra, to be sure, or give exactly what they asked for?
In the end, Iodannus is confident that the Guild's information is probably accurate - after all, they knew more than enough to send out pirates after this - and it's best to send exactly what was asked - no more, no less. As he is the most expert, the others submit to his recommendations.
Upon the return to Vapaas, the pirate lords split up; Iodannus to handle shipping out the Windslave Disks, Gratis to visit the 'mayor', and Atlas to smoke even more opium and relax.
Scene Two - Shipping Preparations
Iodannus, knowing exactly how many disks to send, has them loaded into a crate to be handed over to the Guild; filled with flour and a small secret compartment, as well as a note in the common Guild cipher for the area noting that the payment agreed is inside. As the share of the disks being retained will be guarded by only Gratis's most loyal crewmen anyway, he sees no advantage in trying to assign anyone else as security; the guards would be the most likely thieves if he did. As he walks back towards the Black Dahlia, he hears the slam of a man against a wall, and breaks into a run...
Scene Three - Laying Down the Law
Gratis, pleased by both the promises that the strange cargo is astoundingly valuable and the forthright conduct of the Lasonde's captain, finds the mayor discussing matters with the sheriff. Apparently, a man has 'challenged' Gratis - more accurately, one captain has been punishing the crew of another captain without so much as informing the man. By the laws of Vapaas, there are two main trials: Combat and Debate. The worst crimes, such as this, are sent to Gratis - and so far, Gratis is undefeated.
Gratis decides to deal with this captain now; the gruff man has a perfectly-kept Navy captain's hat, a trophy, and has been punishing anyone and everyone who insults it.
As Gratis prepares to simply punch the rather prideful captain in the face, the captain manages to surprise the Pirate Lord - by getting in a punch at Gratis first. The man is fast. Unfortunately, Gratis has dealt with fast men before - catching the captain's arm with ease before defenestrating the criminal across the thin street outside, into the outside wall of the nearby building. The man falls into a manure cart, but his hat is rescued and claimed by Iodannus in the street below - with a bit of dirtying up and a feather, it is worthy of a Pirate Lord.
Scene Four - Vengeances Joined
Atlas has no such practical aims; he simply heads to "The Opium Den" - so called because it is the only one in Vapaas. And for that matter, a recent addition; until the arrival of Atlas there'd not been enough of a market to warrant a dedicated den. Dropping into a haze by means of his luxurious Yasal Crystal pipe (and, obviously, quite a lot of opium) he is all set to relax. An interruption arrives in the form of a scruffy-looking man in thick black priestly robes, carrying two bladed boomerangs on his back and a fire in his eyes rarely seen. He makes a simple declaration to all inside:
"Who'll give me a ship to kill the Navy with?"
Inclined by drugs to humor the man, Atlas begs him sit down, and asks for an introduction - and a reason for hatred beyond the mere opposition of piracy.
Silver Wyndham, as the man was named, explained - his village had been a small one, and honored their ancestors. It was no cult, nor veneration of ghosts - merely prayers, that the next life might be a better one. This was fine, until one day a Prince of the Earth arrived - a man named Peleps Deled. A mere five steps into the town, he declared his purpose: Deled had heard of the heresy in the town, and was here to cut it out. Slamming a fist into the wall of a nearby building, he began to systematically tear through the buildings - and the people. No words could sway him, as he continued through the thirty-seven men, women, and children of the village - killing mothers and children, men in prayer and all else alike.
Wyndham escaped only by being behind Deled when the destruction began, and running as far as he could... Only to be told at the nearest shrine, that there might be nothing that could be done, for Deled had technically done nothing wrong, as a Prince of the Earth. Wyndham refused this, and charged out of the shrine, finding his own place in an anonymous field to fall to his knees and pray for the vengeance he knew was deserved.
Following the visions of the god who answered his prayers, he has come to the West, to begin a campaign to burn out ALL of House Peleps for accepting and creating such horror.
Peleps Atlas blew out his opium smoke, and mentioned calmly, "You know, my full name is Peleps Atlas."
Wordlessly, two war boomerangs, sharpened and with lethal intent, are drawn.
"And I agree with you. I came here because my family only cares for their precious Princes... Everyone else, it's just like..." Opium smoke. "They're not even people. When I didn't Exalt, why, they tried to kill me! My father protected me, but I saw that it was time to leave... And seek revenge against such a house as well." Opium smoke. "But there's one good one; my sister, at least, Trisha, doesn't need death. Every other one, I'll help you kill. My father is long dead now."
There is a tense moment. Will Wyndham accept this form of penance - is seeking blood enough to redeem blood? In time, his decision is made: "I accept your offer."
And so, both set out for the Black Dahlia, to announce their plans, developed in a haze of vengeance and opium.
Scene Five - The Plan is Shared
The final scene begins with Gratis and Iodannus chatting idly on the Black Dahlia, overseeing the maintenance of their prize flagship. Atlas and Wyndham approach, and Atlas begins to excitedly explain that he's found a new pirate - this rather scruffy, violent-looking 'priest'. As Wyndham starts moving to board, Gratis understandably has the plank raised - and Wyndham responds with a chakram, startling Gratis' men into dropping the plank partway. Now in a rather more tense standoff, Atlas explains the situation, and Wyndham offers his services with one price only: Attacking the Navy.
Eventually, Gratis and Iodannus accept, and Wyndham is carefully allowed aboard.

Session 3 In which it is discovered that I cannot design harbor fortresses properly, and that CRM was not necessary for the tasks I had thought. Whoops!
Nothing significant got done during this session except a change of plans. Stay tuned for the next session when that hopefully pays off!

Re: The Blacksea Scourge! [Exalted 2e, character sheets]
Result of the battle between Gratis and a Thunderbird (Gragas the Hailer)
Spoiler
Standing in the Vapaas 'Arena of Justice' that is used for trials by combat, surrounded by watching pirates...
"I am Gragas the Hailer! So, you are to be my challenger?" The dark-skinned, slightly avian-looking man hefts his massive golden club. "Then, let us see you fight, ha!"
Both act at the same time - and both surge forward, throwing aside caution.
One blow each - the thunderbird's first blow with his mighty warhammer SLAMS Gratis aside - and into a wall of the Vapaas Arena of Justice, where he slumps to the ground unconscious.
Gratis, however, still gets one punch in - and it connects, turning into a crunching elbow-drive into the thunderbird's nose even as he starts flying away.
Slamming into the wall, Gratis can see blood drawn - his, on that immortal golden warclub, but also that of Gragas on his face. Gratis pushes himself off the wall, landing on his feet... barely.
(Mechanics)
Spoiler
He's dropped to his -4 health level already - one more damage and he's unconscious. However... Gratis used a speed 5 attack, while the thunderbird used speed 6.
Needless to say, Gratis succeeded on his "don't submit" Valor roll. The man has Valor 4.
Gratis raises his leg in preparation for a devastating axe-kick, and his opponent just surges forward faster, grinning. The bladed boot comes down, only to be caught by a swiftly-raised base of the club, but this is all to plan - Gratis launches himself up with the caught foot, so that he can twist his other across his foe's face.
As the mortal Pirate-Lord falls to the ground and sinks towards unconsciousness, he can see Gragas...
...Raise his club in one hand...
...Raise the other hand to the giant slash across his face, eyes wide with surprise...
...Lower his club.
And he fades out to the cheers of pirates.
Hours later, he wakes, the Mayor sitting beside him.
"Boss! Boss, ya won! Also, Iodannus says he'll kill ya if you get up yet, but ya won!"
"Ah... good." He looks around slightly. It's a bed, and a building. He's not quite up to recognizing if it's a building he knows yet, especially as his body starts to remember the intense, biting pain of a crushed side. "Now... get me a stiff drink."
"I had a beer, but... yeah, maybe I'll get something heavy for you, too. Just lemme see what's in the cellar..."
Looking around a little more, he notices that this bed has a headboard - and that the headboard has a giant, rainbow-winged hawk - with a great slash across its face, above the beak - sitting on it. "So... Did you have fun too?"
The hawk nods, as the mayor eventually brings enough drink to dull the pain.
Gratis is downed - but he is also victorious. The Thunderbird will serve as a shock troop during the upcoming battle in exchange for assistance with three days or three kills of hunting water elementals, no sacrifices required.

SESSION 4 HAS COME AT LAST! In which there is much bickering on strategy, followed by discovering that the enemy was too confused and disheartened to put up the full fight anyway.
