Night Twenty-Two:

The man, sitting on his chair, chessboard in front of him, frowned in concentration. The game was going against him. The time had nearly come...

To spring his trap.

Smirking, he reached forwards to push one piece. The empty space on the other side of the chess board was quiet in reply. The man looks forwards, white short hair bristling out as he lets go of his piece.

'Your move.'

There was no one on the other side, and yet after a moment, a piece slowly, belatedly, moved in reply. Countering, at least for now, the offensive deployed.

'You're on the defensive, my friend.' The chessmaster laughs, pushing another piece into the fray.

'I suggest you don't count on it.' The voice echoed back, from thin air, as always leaving a chill going up the chessmaster's back.

Refusing to reply, the chessmaster merely waited the next piece to belatedly move forwards before he moved on his his quickly across the board.

'Check.'

All went silent for a few minutes, before a horse moved straight forwards in one line.

'No, no, no. That's not how Chess is played!'

'This isn't chess anymore.' The voice echoed from behind him, the cruel, demonic blade slowly appearing through the man's chest.

Screaming, the Chessmaster tried to pull himself off the blade, but was merely lifted into the sky, the cloaked man beneath, as the last chess piece moved into place.

'Checkmate.'

The echoing scream seemed to explode in a thousand sonic rays, the buildings round about crumbling. Then, as the cloaked man thrust the man off the blade, onto the ground, the island began to explode in furious light.

A moment later, and it plummeted, the demonic one standing now on thin air as he watched its descent.

[b]'Congratulations... on the adventure of a lifetime...'

On the other side, the other island was lit aflame. A dancing figure prowling through the streets, cloak and mask a terrifying sight now as the flames danced and twirled around him.

'Oooh, where are you little sparrow? I want to see you SQUIRM.' 'Stop it now you idiot, you're only making this worse.'

'Too late. I've planned too long. TOO LONG FOR THIS TO LET GO NOW. 'D-Don't. PLEASE.' 'You're egotripping you idiot.'

'No. No. You don't-- You don't understand. I have to do this. And you're not stopping me.'

The man standing against the wall was solemn as the masked man approached, continuing to argue with himself.

'It all comes down to Fuyuki! THAT is where this debacle ends!

In a moment, there was nothing left but small specks of blood or scraps of skin, the flames devouring the last living member of the city as it began to plummet, the masked man not even moving as it fell.

'DEMONSERVANT. You and I. One last battle. ONE LAST FIGHT. I'm not finished. Not yet!

Day Twenty-Three:

'Servant?' The masked man looked almost incredulous at the kneeling one before him, dark mask and deadly blades close to hand.

He seemed fit the type, but did he want to risk taking one of the last survivors underneath his wing?

'Yes, sire.' The voice was nice, melodic. Yes. He would do nicely. Merely nodding his head, the man stood up and followed him into the building.

The man sitting on the pillar was still. So still that the world itself around him seemed to be like nothing. In fact, the world didn't effect him. The peace and calm floated around them all.

It was like a world, but still. Like even the leaves had been frozen in silence. The man held the world around him in a lack of motion. Nothing would continue without his command. And he would not give it lightly.

Rather, the world in his sphere would stay frozen forever. And so none of the demons here could touch him. He would be at peace. Frozen. Forever...
