Arts and CraftsThe place to talk about stick figure avatars, graphic design, fan art, or any application of the visual arts and creative writing--or just to show off your latest masterwork!
(Well that would fit the "JRPG" theme of his comic. I mean you've ever seen JRPG protagonist that look older than 20 ? It's like they all die or retire at 25)
Point taken. And the JRPG protagonist industry takes youth unemployment seriously.
So I decided to sit down and write up a setting I've been kicking around for a bit, when the Inkscape Bug bit me. They're not finished yet, but I also decided to draw some images to go along with the inevitable homebrew posts.
Here are the first four, showing off some of the races:

...Considering how much loot is granted for their efforts, plus the mental trauma and serious internal injuries gained from adventuring, compounded by the fact that nothing will be more awesome than killing what is basically a god (very common in both western and eastern RPGS), and I think it's safe to say that yes, they do retire after that point.
...Hmm. I think you could get a campagin out of that.

Also, I have a new avatar that I'd like to show everyone!
He is a Legend character of mine, a quick warrior who can wield a huge weapon with ease.
I like it. It helps it looks like he's about to dash off into the sunset with it.
Although the hand holding the sword look a little borked, it really needs a thumb of some sort.
I don't like it. Kirito isn't smug, he's a good guy. Maybe remove the brows.
Also: The legs look awkward. Maybe you should leave one going diagonally, and one going straight down.
The head looks funky. Work on the hair, I think that's the source of the problem.
The body is too wide, Kirito is a thin guy, so naturally, he wouldn't have the body of Roy (who's a big, black dude with a huge, wide body to go with it), but a thinner frame.
I'm not a fan of squared ends, so the mouth, brows, and hands kinda don't appeal to me (Though the brows don't appeal to me either way). You could try to put round ends to those.
The shape of the coat looks weird on both. You should give it more weight, since it's leather (or something of the sort).
The swords have outlines that are too thin. Maybe give them a wider outline?
Yeah, give it the flat brow instead of the angry pointed brow
And work on getting consistent with line thickness. Even if you have two different thicknesses in your piece, I believe it's ok if it's organized. Like, outline, hair, limbs and clothes, thickness A, details on clothes and custom designs, thickness two.
Also, try not to make things big and shrink them down to fit your avatar, that's usually where the difference in line thickness comes from. You can see it in the swords.
Agreed with the people above me. Also, try if you can, to avoid making him looking so... stiff. You could look at action poses (google a pose if you need a reference) to make the avatar look a bit more dynamic rather than a guy sticking his head out of a cut-out board.

This one I exported ages ago for my BBBFF, and found it in my system while uploading the other 2 to photo bucket, and I figured I'd put it here too. I know its way big.
I had an interesting concept, which I just had to try.
This nameless creature is practicing her archery skills. Supposedly she can see out her mask. I sketched her out beforehand in a non-stickfigure style, and then stickified the concept. Of course, there were some details I had to omit from an avatar sized image, such as her quiver, snake companion, the fact that her lips are blue, arm wrappings, and so forth. As a sort of stealthy scout/hunter, she would apply camouflaging paint and wear camouflaged armour to improve her stealth.
I hope Serps doesn't mind if I make this my avatar for a bit.
Actually, I would like some suggestions/opinions on how to improve it, other than the bit I noticed about the extra outline making her right hand appear too thick.

I like the space katana. It looks like an extremely deadly cutter.
I only just got involved in a skype game with a few of my friends, and they asked me to draw all of our characters in our "Battle Ready" poses.
Here it is!

I did try to fix the outlines, but I haven't uploaded the result.
I wonder if it's too late to add her to my entries in the Unofficial Best Avatarist thread?
@Kymme: I like how you attempted to draw the black haired one at a three quarters back/profile view. I always avoid that pose, as I think it doesn't work well with spherical heads. I say this with no sarcasm: thumbs up for trying something different!
@V: Hmm, like this?
I think I have sort of experimented with more hand shaped hands, but I'm more comfortable with the standard "trident" style stick figure hands.
@Kurien; hmm, have you tried experimenting with different hand shapes? I've been recently trying to use more realistic looking hands and I'm liking it a lot more than the standard trident like ones.
