Woo! Finished my schedule. Let me know if it is okay. I tried to be specific.
Several things to note:
- depending on how long homework takes, Liz would start to practice the spells in the subject-homework time slots, if she finished early (I think I gave homework such large spots because I keep comparing it to how long my personal college homework takes XD)
-Castle exploration can simply just consist of Liz taking a break from life and aimlessly wandering around the castle or castle grounds
-If the weather outside is crappy, I can still see Liz jogging in it, but she would most likely study/ do homework in the library, or she would practice spells in her dorm.
-Also on the character sheet, Liz's wealth should be poor not moderate
ah, yeah, you guys had thanksgiving, that explains the long silence =)
btw,
I assumed that my schedule advances according to the calendar if I don't respond specifically after each class? Is this fine? I had nothing to roleplay anyway since nothing happened with Oliver.

Yes, I just wait a bit to make sure. If you want to defer, just let me know in the OOC. It's not like we have limited space on the thread.

So I just sent a pm to Mrwest asking if I could switch my flaw with something along the lines that Liz is:
Social Inept - [You have an hard time making friends. Students and teachers alike will hardly help you unless it's in their best interest or you can offer something in return.]
Maria and Oliver make Liz want to become close friends with them, and I think it that flaw is better fitting, but we will see. (I feel as if Maria and Oliver would be Liz's ONLY friends with either flaw though...)
Edit: Also....Liz would be more inclined to study with Maria, If I'm not able to switch the flaw Liz will probably say no to the studying...but we will see...hmmm
She probably doesn't have blue hair right now, but once we learn color change enough, she'll probably give herself it. I love blue hair, plus the witch I based her name off of had blue hair. I just couldn't resist when I saw it in the generator.
That would be funny, give herself a different color hair based on her mood. It's something an insane alchemist would do.
Edit: Wait. "Advanced History of Magic?" on my sheet. Isn't that suppose to be transfiguration?

I probably should put this detail out there, just to avoid any "random" damage done to me.
When I study flying prior to class, I am studying the THEORY, basically doing what Hermione did in the first book. I don't need to put myself in the hospital prior to class XD
Hmmm I should go add more detail to the spreadsheet. Maybe some kind of code.
Edit: I've been meaning to ask this.
How: "Canon" are these?
For example, it states flat out in the Philosopher's stone that the only stone in existence is owned by Nicolas Flamel. Meaning that if these are tied to the Canon books that Maria's goal is going to fail no matter what (either that or she managed to keep it secret).
Same with the Wolf's bane potion. Liz is the only person so far that's been anything kind to her, and if they become friends to the point where Liz tells her her history, Maria would probably work herself half-to-death to find a cure, even if it's only temporary for the sole purpose of showing her friend that not all people are racist...speciesis, whatever.
But the Half-blood Prince flat out stated that a man invented it.
So how tied to the Canon Books are these?

Wow that's tough work schedule. No rush, it has been fun roleplaying. :)
Geeze, you're not kidding. 14 hours a day? You make Maria look lazy.
Oh well, the money's got to be good right (please don't be offended).
Anyway, I'm not sure how much "knowledge" my character starts out with, but seeing how her life goal is to be an alchemist/create a stone, do I get to assume she at least knows who Nicolas is? Or would that count as metagaming?
Sorry I'm trying to play her as this smart, ambitious, hardworking...hmmm..
Alright I know how to define Maria.
She's being played by an optimizer.
You know that D&D player, like me, who spends hours or days going over books for the sole purpose of trying to make the BEST BUILD EVER!
That's basically what I'm doing here. I can roleplay, but almost all of the roleplaying is going to go toward trying to earn extra credits. I'm less about the whole "magical setting" thing, and more "can I get every single course up to level 20 by the end of the campaign?"
Of course I'm enjoying roleplaying with Liz, but if there's a problem with this player goal, please tell me. I don't really care if it's impossible (Which it likely is), I mostly just want to see if I can work the system and score major points for my house.
Of course you'll notice that Maria has some interesting sides to her. Like leaving the house elves a note of thanks. She's not evil, in fact she's probably only in slytherin less because it's HER goal, and more that it's MY goal.
If there is a problem with me trying to do this, please tell me. I'm trying to make her three-dimensional, but the stormwinds be a harsh mistress.
Sorry for rambling. This is pretty much a dream game for me. Magical school, simulation elements, roleplaying elements, good fellow players. Interesting setting, and plot twist (the labs is a nice touch). The mechanics look nice and well oiled...
I'll shut up now. You don't need me annoying you.
TLDR: If I ever step out of line or metagame, tell me off.
Can I join this game? I've got a really interesting character idea for a halfborn boy who lost his Auror father to some Dark Wizards, and has been ever since wanting to become a warlock (I'm pretty sure that means a wizard who specializes in battle spells) to protect everyone else.

Alright, I'm about to post some stuff. Apologies for tardiness. I've been bumped up from 14 to 16 hours. The pay isn't great either, because I'm a music teacher. We're in the middle of putting on a musical, and I conduct the orchestra.
Reader: Let me think on it. My other party only has 2 players, but someone else has dibs on a spot if my 3rd player has truly dropped.

Name: Gladius Black (yes, that Black)
Bloodline: Half-born (pure-blood father, Muggle mother).
Preferred House: Gryffindor.
Deffered House: I'm not sure what this means. If it means "second choice" then Slytherin (he's on the border between those two). If "least favorite" then Hufflepuff.
Perk: Muggle fighting (He knows basic martial arts and fencing. I especially want him to be good at dodging spells because he's developed really fast reflexes. Not sure how to represent that mechanically.)
Aptitude: DADA.
Wand: 13", Ironwood and Dragon Heartstring, totally rigid, abnormally thick.
Flaw: Developing Psychosis.
Struggle: Become harder and stronger.
Appearance:
Spoiler
Gladius is slightly bigger than usual for his age, with short black hair and strange eyes. On the increasingly rare occasions that he's genuinely happy, his eyes turn bright sky-blue. But normally they are a dark greenish-purple, and have an oddly wild cast to them. His body is not bulgingly muscular like a weight-lifter, but instead has the taut, whipcord musculature of a martial artist or a duelist. But the oddest thing about his appearance, which cannot often be seen under the long sleeves of wizarding robes, are the layers of silvery scars that cover both his arms. Dozens upon dozens of scars, criss-crossing his arms in a silvery patchwork.
Backstory:
Spoiler
Gladius was born to Aurus Ignis Black, a pureblood wizard and Auror, and Melanie Rosario Black, one of the very few Muggles who actually joined the wizarding world. His family occupied a very strange place in Wizarding society. Due his father's need to keep his identity hidden (a rudimentary safety precaution for any Auror with family) and his Muggle mother, Gladius grew up primarily in the Muggle side of his house. He knew about the magic, of course, but he knew it was a thing to be kept strictly within the family. This lasted quite well, up until the day when his father was ambushed while attempting to apprehend a Muggle-slaving ring. In the ensuing spellfight, Aurus Black took a lethal wound and died in battle, taking no fewer than four of the Dark wizards with him. The news immediately forced the Blacks to go far deeper into cover than before. Without Aurus's formidable magical strength, their only defense was anonymity. This experience also had a disturbing impact on Gladius's mind. He already had planned to be an Auror, but this fixed that plan almost to the level of obsession. With no way to learn magic, he spent the next two years learning Muggle methods of fighting instead.
Personality:
Spoiler
Gladius is an incredibly focused individual. He has reshaped not only his body, but his mind to become what he thinks he must be, at the cost of mental stability. To use his own words, he has "forsworn laughter and tears." Note that, while he rejects joy and greif, he does not disdain them. He is perfectly concious that there is great good in all that he has given up, but he believes that the sacrifice is a necessary one to become hard and strong enough to vanquish all evils. An important part of his time at Hogwarts will be either realizing his mistake and accepting again laughter and tears, or following his chosen path into total psychosis and insanity.
Also, could you link me to the intro thread so I can read the rules?

Would it work better with your RAW if I had Flaw: Loner and then took Perk: Extra Aptitude and Aptitude: Muggle Fighting?
Also, I just realized that I left out a few bits of my character profile. He's supposed to have a fair nest egg in the wizarding world, for similar reasons to Harry (largish bank account that hasn't been drawn on for a few years). Not ridiculously wealthy like the Malfoys or the mainline Blacks, but money's not really a concern for him.
As for extra supplies, he would probably have a higher-end broom (he understands the value of speed and manuverability), second-year DADA books, and probably carry a dagger at all times.

Uh...no...I have no idea what that is. Google gives me a series of books...but I haven't read them, and I don't see how they're relevant to what I posted.
The bit I highlighted sounded like a reference to the series.

The stormwind fallacy is a logical fallacy that argues optimized characters can't be roleplayed as well, and that characters need to be "weak" in order to be well played.
Basically it argues that an uber-charger super powerful fighter, will never be roleplayed as well as a weak fighter who wasted his feats on Skill focus (cooking).
What I was saying with that is that I'm trying to uh... "win" the game, by getting my score as high I can. But it's a slippery slope between trying to optimize my test scores, and still play the character well.
Google the fallacy, its a good piece of reading for any gamer.
