Default Name the Cleric

Has someone done this one before?

One of my favorite anonymous characters in the OOTS comic is the nameless cleric of Loki, or "friend of Pete's" or "traitor cleric" as he's sometimes called, introduced here.

A character as awesomely awesome as this deserves at least a name. So I thought I'd suggest one, always pending the Giant's final approval. (Of course, he may already have a name known only to the Giant, or one may have been announced that I've missed, in which case this is null and void.)

Let's see; he's actually quite loyal and resourceful, if a little cowardly, a little on the greedy side, but with some hidden depths of bravery and resolve. I suggest as a name Father Milburn, sometimes known as "Milburn the Wobbly" for his hesitation.

Anybody else want to play?

I'm pretty sure these boards call him Colin, from nameless Cleric of Loki (CoL).

I don't understand the point of this exercise. We are not the authors, the Giant is.

The point is that we have to find some way to amuse ourselves while the Giant is regaining his hit points. I say his name is Judas!

Well if you were a guy named Sue, would you be spouting off your name to a bunch of gangsters?

No, but if you were a guy named Sue, why would you fall in with a bunch of gangsters instead of tracking down your daddy and trying to kill him?

That is where the gangsters come in, obviously. Clerics don't have any skill at tracking.

Lady Foxfire is absolutely correct.

However, I would like to withdraw my suggestion of "Milburn the Wobbly" and instead suggest "Billy Bob Jenkin jumper jilly jack durndelhead the Wobbly." Thanks, Scowling Dragon.

I'm new to this. How do you guys quote each other and make it look so cool?

Okay, maybe Father Sue the Wobbly. But Father Ted is good, too.

Maybe we're not supposed to know the real names of any of the clerics in this comic. Think about it: Red Cloak is a pseudonym and we don't know this guy's name. Do we know the true names of any clerics that have appeared in the comic?

Obviously, clerics in this setting must guard their true names, for if their names were to become known they would lose all of their divine powers.

Sigh...*facepalm*

Look, the ENTIRE POINT of this character was that he was unnamed! He could have very easily died. In fact, in most stories characters like this die the moment that they fulfil their plot purpose - in this case, contacting Durkon and uncursing Belkar. He had no reason to be in the story after that and could have been rubbed out (in hilarious fashion) by any of the Thieves' Guild members. Belkar would have survived regardless, he was higher level than all of them and had plot armor to boot. But a minor character who only appeared in three strips, and didn't even have a name? Ha! Dead.

Only, it didn't happen - him & Belkar made it to the door, which I thought was a wonderful twist and subversion of the same tired old storytelling. He even offered Belkar a job, which Belkar actually considered for a few moments. So totally awesome, and so dependent on the fact that he didn't have a name.

Uh no. I don't think that was that integral to his character. Redcloaks name is. Sure.

But not Names name (Thats what Im calling him from now on. Name; The Cleric).

And yes, he was the one who cured Belkar.

If he died than he could have never offered Belkar the chance to escape with him thus showing Belkar's (pseudo) character development. So, this wasn't really an inversion. Him surviving had a point.
