I suppose I'll throw out a knowledge roll, in case I see the creature. I might just know what it is.

pfffft. Looking at those rolls, I doubt Corin's going to end up doing much here.

Spoiler

Corin - after looking at the rules again, I reread the following:

Single Actions Only (Ex): Zombies have poor reflexes and can perform only a single move action or attack {ie. standard} action each round. A zombie can move up to its speed and attack in the same round, but only if it attempts a charge.

Since an attack of opportunity is a reflex-based, non-move/standard action, I think I'm going to make a new ruling - zombies get no normal attacks of opportunity from actions that would normally provoke one. However, if the provoking action is one which makes contact with the zombie and fails, the zombie may immediately make a touch attack to attempt a grapple. If you try to trip a zombie unarmed, for instance, failing might mean you don't do it quick enough and the zombie grabs hold of you.

I haven't seen the result of the above roll due to the spoiler tags, so please everyone let me know if you guys think this sounds fair before I continue.

I'm fine with the no-AOO house rule for zombies house rule if everyone else is game for it. I figure Corin's still going to loose the opposed rolls, since his, well, sucked here. Though, I would CERTAINLY LOVE SOME ASSISTANCE UP HERE!

At your service!

I'm sincerely hoping I managed to make it past my first obstacle of the game; a staircase. 0-0

To Hit vs AC11 (1d20+1)[19]
Hanni grapple check (1d20+1)[3]
Corin grapple check (1d20+2)[5]

Looks like Corin's still free for now.

I certainly am. Didnt expect to be holding onto this bonus feat so quickly!

Initiating a grapple.
She gets an AOO (Though not anymore, right? Because of zombieness?)

Touch attack against her touch AC (1d20+2)[10]

If THAT succeeds, opposed grapple checks (1d20+2)[19]

If THAT succeeds, I deal nonleathal unarmed damage. (1d3+2)[3] I wanted to roll it anyway, but I BELIEVE zombies are immune to nonlethal, right?

Either way, I just want to pin the thing.

attempting to determine what I should do.

With my knowledge result, I'm assuming I remember some useful things about zombies from my religious lessons in the church.

I guess, I'm going to try and see if I can get another strong guy to try and hold the zombie in place, and I can perhaps try to cut off it's head?

That's my best guess. Also while yelling for someone to get holy water, or a blessed object of some kind.

okay, I've written something down. Note this, please Toska: I'm a weakling. If I tried to get in on the grapple, I'd probably be more useless then useful.

Edit: if I'm correct in my thinking, Toska, you should have been able to grab the zombie easy. Hopefully you can hold it pinned long enough for me to hack its head off.

Actually, from what I'm reading in grapple rules, you should be able to join into a grapple for free, AOO-Less, with an attack against the zombie's Dex-less AC. Though I figure that's more up another man's alley, eh?

I LOVE the flashback dialogue. That was tasty.

Though I figure if I can pin her, maybe you can coup-de-grace her. Though I'm not sure that works on undead.

Grapple: (1d20+1)[19]
Ok, a draw, but you're still grappling because you have the higher modifier. Like you say though, they're immune to non-lethal damage (plus as unarmed damage is bludgeoning, it wouldn't beat DR).

Siel can join in the grapple for free or attempt to grab the dagger and attack the zombie. In the latter case, the zombie would get a penalty to initiate a grapple if you fail (as it's already preoccupied), but you couldn't perform a coup-de-grace. Not only are undead immune to critical hits, but pinned opponents are specifically not helpless, just immobile. Still, the zombie would be at -4AC so you'd have a great chance of hitting.

Also, that really was a cool flashback - nicely written!

EDIT: Corin, if you want you can also try to use the dagger - use the rues for using an opponent's weapon against them to start with, but once you succeed the first time it's in your hands for future attacks and so requires no opposed grapple check.

If anyone needs to roll opposed checks, Hanni rolls d20+1.

That whole 'Undead are immune to Critical hits' thing is beyond frustrating.

alright, now that the zombie is held down, time for Siel to move in.

Spoiler

and thanks! (about the flashback thing) It's always more fun to try and throw something out there other than "Hey! Look what I know!" Plus, it helps me develop him as a character, anyways. (HEY! Hey. Malachite. Plot hooks galore. MMmmmmmm....)

Edit: Well.... being pinned decreases your AC, Right? assuming a normal commoner zombie from the SRD, I should hit. Unless she not... *gulp*.... normal.
I'll reroll my damage in the IC post. I won't make assumptions about hitting either way, and make it as ambiguous as possible.

Ambiguity came out effective. I liked the little prayer, there, too. Let's just hope you don't manage to stab Corin, eh?

I'm just joshing, though. I dont think there's a chance of that unless it's ranged. Just happy to have some help up here!

Ooh, and sorry for the double post, but I forgot to add on damage for the dagger attack. Assuming an 18 hits in a grapple. Well, it was a nat 20, so it BETTER hit.

(1d4+2)[5] Dagger is a d4 right? Unless this one is somehow magic, but i'll leave any of that business to malachite.

Guys,

Unfortunately my grandma passed away yesterday morning after having a massive stroke on Tuesday night. Obviously my family is quite shook up about it, so we're going to be staying together over the weekend. I'll try to get things running again Monday or Tuesday, but you'll forgive me if I don't want to write scenes of grief in-game while things are still raw for me.

On the positive side, at least she went peacefully without really regaining consciousness, so she didn't suffer at all, and she was nearly 90.

Talk to you again soon,

Ross

I'm just waiting on the mage getting back up and some sort of authority figure to show up at the crimescene. I would like to know how much I was healed though.

Was away over the weekend for the funeral, but I'm back now.

OK, the mage was stabilised by the potion but is still at -3hp, so while he has a 10% chance per hour to wake up, he's going to need two full days of bed rest before he's up and back to normal. If he lasts that long, that is.

Corin's potion CLW: (1d8+1)[9]

I'll get on the authority figure bit though.
