Not sure if I should just abandon this one (and take all the traits I got and run) and hold out for a later character. But Emperor Rapacious is not yet 30, so there's osmething to be said for getting immortality while he's still young retains his looks...!

Pretty much that, actually. Obviously, you have more unlimited time to do things (e.g. work your way around all of the character focuses, for example). You get a "long reign" opinion bonus, based on the number of years you have ruled - as you can imagine, that will go QUITE nicely after some decades to the point that by end game you'd nearly be able to be as much of a fracktard as you damn well liked, and everyone will still love you. And, also obviously, you don't have to worry about making your heirs so good; and, when you get to EUIV, remove the hassle of king-overs and the random stats that brings. Assuming I go back and do it again now (which I am strongly leaning towards), I'd have about 350 years or events to pump Rapacious' stats until he gets to be a 6/6/6 king in EUIV.

I am only debating this since I would quite like to have a young female immortal ruler, if I'm honest (among other things, female immortals stay fertile if they become immortal below 45). But the trigger for the immortality quest line has a mean time to happen of 3000 months (250 years), and while it goes up a bit for age and illness (you actually have a higher chance while sick), the chances of it actually successfully happening in that specific period are... Quite small. Actually getting it while Rapacious is in his late twenties is pretty lucky itself.

An Earth pony with Body D8 is better at athletics and hard work, but not as good at tasks such as studying (a bit like Applejack). An Earth pony with Body D6 is a very balanced pony with D6 for both Body and Mind (more like Pinkie Pie). Both choices are equally fine, but allow you to play two very different types of characters -- as different as Pinkie Pie is from Applejack!

Applejack now game-canonically stronger but dumber than Pinkie Pie.

Guh. I made Rapacious immortal. And it took about two-three hours of reloading (not helped by lousy RNG on the child that was RIGHT in the middle of the process, nor having to sort out the same mess of vassal titles EVERY SINGLE TIME). I was on my very last try before I just wrote it off as a bad job, with the intention of REALLY crowbarring it down the line with a sutiable feamle heir (up to an including console usage), when I FINALLY managed it.

Annoyingly, Idunn, the 16-year old quest giver who is also now immortal, spawns with a "will not marry" character modifer, which is a shame, since despite her... Pretty crappy stats, actually, also gets generated with "attractive" and "lusty" traits, so would have made for useful sprog-releasing. Ho hum. Still, not necessarily the end of the world (maybe that modifed disappears if I'm not married...?), so maybe with time (and eventually console if I get fed up enough) or a dip into the seduction focus...?

Interesting that the example doesn't say what AJ's Mind score is.

It is a d4.

During character creation, you have a d4 and a d6 to assign to Body and Mind.
Then, as an earth pony, you increase your Body die to the next superior one.

Thus, Applejack is Body d8 / Mind d4 while Pinkie Pie is Body d6 / Mind d6.
Or at least that's how they were as 1st level ponies, six seasons and some backstory ago.

Interestingly, these new pages reveal that earth ponies get more than a Body die upgrade.
Once per game session, you can add a d6 to a Body test. AJ would roll d8+d6, Pinkie 2d6.

I wonder if they will use other Mane 6 as examples.
Rainbow Dash could be Body d6 / Mind d4 / Flight d6, while Fluttershy would be Body d4 / Mind d6 / Flight d6.
Yeah, all pegasi start with Flight d6, but there has to be some kind of interaction with the Body trait.

Going further into speculation, I suspect that Flight and Telekinesis might be talents rather than main abilities like Body, Mind and Charm.

It says on the page that earth ponies start with a "free additional talent: Stout Heart (D6)".
That's how they increase their Body die and can add a d6 to a Body test once per session.

I could see other pages having things like "free additional talent: Flight (D6), you can fly and once per session you can add a d6 to a Body test involving flight" or "free additional talent: Telekinesis (D6), you can move things magically and once per session you can add a d6 to a Mind test involving telekinesis".

I've played so many different Pony systems where earth ponies get some poorly defined/poorly balanced ability that doesn't compare to Pegasi and Unicorns. I'd laugh if flight and tk got thrown into the same kind of state. Welcome to our world.

It would also be an elegant way to have "spells" for all ponies.

3rd level earth pony talent: Green Hoof (D6)
You can cause plant seeds to experience a growth spurt when you hold them. Once per session, you can add a d6 to a Body test you make for that purpose.

3rd level pegasus pony talent: Lightning Buck (D6)
You can cause rain clouds to release a bolt of lightning when you kick them. Once per session, you can add a d6 to a Body test you make for that purpose.

3rd level unicorn pony talent: Eldritch Blast (D6)
Your horn can produce a beam of destructive force. Once per session, you can add a d6 to a Mind test you make for that purpose.

I made it all up. But I sure am excited for the actual talent list.

I am not familiar with that game.

The way I see the show, only unicorns are strictly speaking "spellcasters" but other ponies demonstrate magical abilities through physical feats.

This is particularly obvious with pegasi, who walk on clouds, push clouds around, kick lightning bolts out of rain clouds, create tornadoes by flying in circles and otherwise work the weather.

For non-pegasi, it is all just steam and air. Unless they have an unicorn with the right spells. It will be interesting to see how high level the game makes Cloud Walk and Sky Sewing for unicorns.

And as shown by Lord Tirek, there is a form of mana that can be drained out of pegasi, making them unable to fly at all. It could just be from exhaustion, except Celestia talked about Tirek stealing flight. It is apparently harder to steal than unicorn magic.

So yeah, unicorn spells could be a subgroup in a long list of magical talents. There could be plenty of nonmagical talents too, such as, well, most things on the CMC's charts.

Immortal Emperor Rapacious ain't doing too bad! He's destroyed the title of Hispania (finally), allowing everything to be slowly start to be absorbed into the Roman Empire... And while he can't marry Idunn, he had managed to make her his mistress (and best mate) and between her and the actual Missus (also Lusty, I think the first time I managed to find a suitable wife with that trait), he's banged out (pun intended) twelve kids in 23 years. And no twins in that either.

And the last sprog (Princes Sleepstar¹), came out with both Genius and Attractive traits. (Given inheriting any one trait is a 15% chance, this is the first double-trait offspring in 210-odd hours of play.)



¹Male progney are named with words ending with -us (in homage to Asterix), females after types of Undead, and now any progeny with Idunn are to be named after Carnage Team to differentiate them (and legitimised).

After the day I had yesterday trying to get the [expletiving] T-64BV done...

*sigh*

The CAD modelling was already done, you see, and all that left was the assembly and prototype printing. "Startses early," I thinks, "and then we can do all the present-wrappingses later."

No.

EIGHT HOURS of wrestling with the model later, between TurboCAD throwing a screaming hissy fit about only assembling the model in an arcane sequence it changed every time it made me do it again, and then Netfabb doing a highly unsual frack-up and letting me down on the mesh fixing (and not opening the right bloody version of the file) and then Makerbot screwing up on the slicing (it took me FOUR ATTEMPTS to print the turret at half and hour each), I finally got the bloody bastard done and up.

Never had so much hassle with a model before and it's not even the freaking actual CAD design. (Still, that means it's about a well-behaved and regarded as the real T-64, zing!)

The T-64 now gets to be the first armoured vehicle to join Vampires, Shi'Ar and Gladiator on my list of Things I Cannot Fully Articulate My Hatred Of.

(And all this on top of the forums being down, and ponythread being deathly silent, so I couldn't even go vent.)

So, after that day... I didn't dare brave CK2 or AI War, so I played the Stanley Parable that I bought way back in Jan/Feb and that killed three highly amusing hours.



Today I ventured back into AI War and discovered the Botnet Golem. Which is bloody HILARIOUS. It's this big job-off dohickey you find broken from a previous civilisation and them repair. And what it does, once fixed, is to shoots enemy ships, and when it kills them, it turns them into zombie vessels. (Seriously, that's what the game calls them.) So, as you can imagine, this tickels my fancy in ALL sorts of hilarious ways, not least the fact that is is REALLY GOOD at splattering waves of enemy ships in seconds, and turning them all into zombies. These aren't under your control, but pootle about in your home system and occasionally go off and suicidally attack the AIs. The funny part is, at once point, it launched a swarm of about 2300 or something at me - the biggest wave I've yet seen - and Botnet must have pretty much turned them all into zombies. So never mind my actual fleet and turrets, I've got a variable number of zombies defenders that at point, was larger than my actual fleet. It's fracking amazing.
