I hope >70% of you think I'm talking about TV Tropes leaving the interblag.
Anyway, can anyone explain to me why http://tvtropes.org is blocked at work for "Sex?" It wasn't blocked until recently, and it distrubs that of all reasons to block it, it was blocked for sex.
Curse the prohibition on curse words! The best retort writes itself. *sigh* Now it's going to rattle around souring my consciousness until I can unload it on some unsuspecting fool.
To be honest, a short TV Tropes session can evolve into a missed day faster than a short Wikipedia session. If you want to keep your job this is probably good.

I'm well aware of the "just on more link" to the point of having 20+ windows open. I am a night audit at a hotel, if it wasn't for this forums and tvtropes I would play my psp for almost the whole 8 hours...
WebSense is finnicky sometimes. 'Sex' makes sense at least, even if it is being a little overzealous. What I want to know is what it means when I look up a cryptography website and it says "The WebSense category 'Dayton' is filtered."
What the heck is Dayton?! Is the town or university in Ohio really that salacious?

Wikipedia NEVER had me busy for a whole day the way TV Tropes did. If Wikipedia is a Time Killer, TV Tropes is a Time Genocider.
Now what will I do to be unproductive at work? At least Tvtropes had a font and format that made it look like a business-related site that I could hide more easily.
Bear in mind that sometimes the filter has really stupid reasons for blocking things. I once had a filter block a site for "pornography". Trust me, there was none. They just want to catch it any putting something like that there provides grounds for them to question what you were doing there in the first place.
If your employer is spending money to block a site and you are caught using their resources and perhaps your paid time to circumvent that obstacle -- well, the phrase "bad career choice" is running through my mind.

........and since when do they have porn tropes?
Since quite a while ago, apparently. It's a catagory in and of itself...
... quit looking at me like that; links go to odd places in that site.
Also, SHAME on you for making the title say R.I.P. TV Tropes. You made me thank that' quabandiblaman had showed up again. Don't ever scare me like that again!

Give a player a fish, and he’ll probably try to sell it to an NPC fisherman.
Teach a player to fish, and next week he’ll show up with the book, “The Complete Adventuring Fisherman”. He’ll start hunting for some monstrous leviathan to catch and enslave, and he’ll be dual-wielding two fishing poles.

I didn't really say it was recommended, just that it could be done. Besides, like he said, without Internet, he'd just play his PSP anyways.

Oddly, despite its massive web blocking, my high school never blocked TV Tropes...and this college doesn't appear to have any content filtering at all. Still, it's agreed that it wastes a LOT of time...I'm reading it right now, too, actually.

Wouldn't filtering on a college campus (at least in dorms) be sort of against the spirit of college? Or is it just liberal arts colleges...I have heard of schools that limit bandwidth usage, but that's understandable to keep the tubes from clogging up.
Unfortunately, I never got into hacking so I can't help you out but I do know a few people...one nearly got expelled a number of times but they could never prove anything because he was too careful and kept all his stuff on flash drives.
Is this the same filter that blocks GitP because it's a "Game"?
If so, I remember Phase telling me once that he was looking up a Latin poem for class… and it was blocked because, apparently, it was "occult". *eyeroll*
