Somebody give him a towel.

Or better yet a pair of pants. Is there a way to stop viewing avatars other then blocking all images?

If you're running Firefox the extension AdBlock Plus can block specific images. And ads, too, into the bargain.

Linux is actually pretty safe against viruses. Admittedly, that's partially because nobody bothers with a Linux virus, but also because tons of people help out with free anti-viruses. Yay Open Source!

Everyones being paranoid about viruses. Any halfway responsible internet user can make do pretty without any automatic virus safety beyond the standard windows firewall. Its extremely rare my scanners pick up anything ever. And Im well equipped actually, with antiVir and adAware

And that's what I meant (that the avatar should wear the towel), you don't need to be a genius to know that.

Indeed. A half naked stick figure is truly shocking. No individual should ever see the skin of another individual. Reproduction is to be done while blindfolded.

Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy reference. It comes from the guide entry on towels:

A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: nonhitchhiker) discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet-weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitchhiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

Hence a phrase that has passed into hitchhiking slang, as in "Hey, you sass that hoopy Ford Prefect? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is." (Sass: know, be aware of, meet, have sex with; hoopy: really together guy; frood: really amazingly together guy.)

Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy reference. It comes from the guide entry on towels:
I think the explanation given to Grace in El Goonish Shive explain it pretty well.

We also only get the movie of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (crappy useless mini country) So I didn't know.

I'm not very bothered by MM's avvie, although I am wondering why he chose such a... shocking picture to use. Surely he would have anticipated the negative response.

I happen to think very highly of MM's intelligence and judgement... which is more than I can say for a certain senior citizen frequenting this thread.

Still.. Wouldn't it be a bit weird if he knew about the reasons for it being shocking, he's a kid after all.

And let's change topic, this one's getting weird.

It's just a stick figure, damn it ! Imagine if you encountered Classical Greek sculptures... You'll probably say "Gah, my eyes !".

Damned cultural taboos...

Indurain would probably back it, and possibly Glug, but you might encounter some adverse reactions from the posters at large.

Well, sculptures are usually classified as "art", while a stick figure usually isn't.

Of course I would.

Read This and I think you'll understand why people react to nudity like that, or not.
