Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
“The armchair-admirals at the Navy academies will have it that combat in space is a predictable, scientific affair, akin to a game of regicide. They teach that you should only engage your enemy at this or that range, that it takes a particular number of escorts to engage one cruiser and a hundred other such nuggets of tedious, received wisdom.
What do they know? These academics and experts who have never felt the rush of blood as you close on your for, his plasma containment failing as he bleeds out into the void? Who among them has closed to ranges that make the 'experts' splutter with indignation? Which of them know the visceral thrill that is the bloody murder of combat in space?
I have felt the frozen kiss of the void as my hull split, and lived.
I have hurled my warship at my foe as if it were a torpedo, and defeated him utterly. And I will do so again, a thousand times, until the Emperor or the universe decides I've done it once too often.”
-Rogue Trader Lucien Gherrit of the Clan Arcadius, at the victory banquet aboard the Wotan following the defeat of the traitor 88th Flotilla.
THE GAME
Having just arrived at Port Wander, the entrance to the Koronus Expanse, a struggling Rogue Trader dynasty is preparing to capture fame and fortune. Many others have come before them and most found only death, but some few skilled and lucky Rogue Traders have found unsurpassed wealth.
This is going to be a vanilla game of Rogue Trader. You are in the Koronus Expanse and you want to be unbelievably filthy rich. To do this you will risk your lives against everything from other Rogue Traders to xenos to daemonic horrors.
I'll introduce plotlines, but it will also be quite PC driven and there's no huge rambling storyline that you're going to be required to adhere to.
Carnage and intrigue await, for those brave enough to proceed.
CHARACTER CREATION
I'll pick the best of the applicants, aiming for roughly 5 players. There's no first come first serve and no niche protection, I'll just take the best characters. That said, I'll be unlikely to choose a group consisting of five Arch-Militants or anything like that.
Standard Character Creation. I'll make all the rolls.
Once I've chosen the PCs, you can work out exactly which type of ship you want together.

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
Where can this game be found? If the mechanics support the amazing OP that you've made I'm definitely interested.

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
It's a product of Fantasy Flight Games ( http://www.fantasyflightgames.com).
They don't offer any pdf versions that you can download as far as I'm aware, but you can get it either from your FLGS or Amazon/another online retailer

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
Hmm, since my DH books just arrived in the mail, this will be a great oppurtunity for me, that is, if you take new players.
Would an Explorator be acceptable for a character?

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
I'd play a Missionary
I'm prolly gonna go, hive world -> Stubjack -> Duty Bound -> Dark Voyage -> Renown -> Missionary
I could also take the role of medicae now that I look at Missionary growths.....

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
Is Fate an acceptable reroll? If not, I'll take Agility.
Origin Path: Noble Born, Vaunted (+3 Fellowship, d5 corruption), Chosen by Destiny (Fated for Greatness: +1 Fate, 1d10+1 Insanity), High Vendetta, Rogue Trader.

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
Well if the dice are being this mean to me now I have to pull out eventually. Law of averages right?
Edit: On the Duty to the Throne Lure, can I gain armor of contempt if I spend 100 xp in Character Creation to get 40 wp, even if I didn't have it when selecting lures?

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
Hmm... Something about the mechanic being the dumbest of all characters... I'll take a reroll on Toughness
Oh allmighty Tzeentch, Changer of ways, Lord of knowledge, grant me a good T roll
And would you mind if my character grew up on a forge world, is a savant and a renegade, had a dark voyage and motivation was seeking forbidden knowledge (fortune)?
EDIT: nevermind about the INT reroll, higher chance of getting something lower.

I am thinking of playing either an Astropath or an Magister.

Re: Rogue Trader - Sailing the Darkest Sea
I'm interested, though can we arrange the numbers favor stats as we see fit? Or are they set in stone? Also can we use the point buy system deitiled in the book for our stats? (pg 14)
I'm aiming most likely for Arch-milltant or Seneschal depending on the makeup of the rest of the group.
Also can you speficy what time period it is taking place? After the 13th Black Crusade or such?
