The Arena Tournament Recruiting Thread 6: Pure Hack-n'-Slash PvP! •Always Recruiting•
The Arena Tournament
Welcome all who wish to enter our tournament. Unlike most other games, here in the Arena we accept anyone and everyone willing to join, play, and follow the rules. Simply create a character within the guidelines given below and post it in this thread and one of our refs will add you to the next available tournament. Any character creation questions should also be posted in this thread, for ease of organization.
Do not post characters in the Waiting Room.
They usually end up lost or misplaced when posted over there. If your character has been forgotten or skipped over, just repost the character in this thread.
Once your character is created, head to the waiting room to familiarize yourself with the match rules and to check out your opponents' character sheets out, find quick links to the ongoing matches, and join in current rules discussions, located here: Waiting Room
Spectator's Archives are also availible, found here.
For those of you wanting to join our staff of referees or wanting to submit potential arenas, simply post your request here in this thread, and one of our High Refs will respond within a day or so.
General Information
This is D&D 3.5.
This is also a PvP tourney: where players test out their character building skills and battle tactics, and are pitted against each other in fierce arena matches!
It takes place right here, right now: The OotS Forums!
And, of course, we'll always be recruiting.
Character Creation Information
Any player may have up to four characters at once.
All characters start at first level; zero experience.
Starting gold is the maximum possible for a character of your class.
Gear can be purchased from any non-banned source. This includes magic items from the DMG or other source books, so you may start with Potions of Cure Light Wounds or other gear.
A special note: All the mundane clothing outfits found in the PHB or SRD, excepting the Cold Weather Outfit, are free in this Arena, so you can dress your character however you wish. You are not required to have your character wear clothing of any sort, but it is recomended.
Characters may not purchase any mounts, attack animals, mercenaries, undead, with the exception of a single mount. Possesion of more than one mount is prohibited.
Characters of any class will be accepted, as long as it is official WotC material from a non-banned 3.5 D&D source.
Any race with no more than a +1 level adjustment is allowed. Races with a level adjustment must work out a racial class with any referee.

Hit points are maximized for first level, and averaged as given in the DMG forevermore afterwards.
Alignment doesn't really matter, except in the cases of alignment-based spells and items, such as paladin spells or a Protection From _____ spell.
Paladins,Clerics, and other characters with alignment-based codes of conduct are not required to uphold those restrictions to keep their abilities. For example, a Paladin can use poison without losing his powers, but a Knight must continue to operate under the restrictions of the Knight's Code (as they are not alignment based).
Multiclassing XP penalties are removed, for ease of bookkeeping. Otherwise, multiclassing is as normal.
All die rolling must be made with the in-forum roller.
No, you don't have to write a backstory. In fact, any IC stuff is not required. it is pure hack-'n-slash, after all.
Only material from rulebooks you can access can be used, to prevent confusion about the rules.
Tips
Don't forget to list your character's languages. It comes up in some matches.
Make sure you have an accounting of your character's gear.
Please list book sources for all non-core items used.

Round Types
We run a variety of different round types here in the Arena Tournament. These all follow the general rules listed in the Waiting Room, except as noted here.
Standard (1 vs 1)
Spoiler
No special rules apply to a standard round.
Tag Team (2 vs 2)
Spoiler
Players fight as part of a 2 man team.
Players may choose their partner, provided all such arrangements are made in a timely manner.
Players that do not pick their own partner will be randomly paired with another gladiator.
Free For All (1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1)
Spoiler
Four players enter and fight until only one remains standing.
Unlike other rounds, a Free-For-All requires 16 players, but is started when only the initial 8 players have been cleared.
Players eliminated in one of the initial matches may rejoin the round in one of the other initial matches, provided the other matches have not started yet.
Whenever a character is eliminated, the XP and gold for the elimination is split between all currently surviving characters in the match. For example, when the first character falls, the XP and gold are split with the remaining three characters.
Characters need to speak the same language in order to communicate.
Short term alliances are perfectly acceptable.
Short Free For All (1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1)
Spoiler
Four players enter and fight until only one remains standing.
The first place and second place fighters from both initial matches advance to the final match.
Endurance (1 vs 1)
Spoiler
Unlike with other rounds, an Endurance round is single-elimination.
Unlike other rounds, characters are not healed nor are positive and negative effects automatically removed.
One hour passes for each character between matches.
Any special effect currently affecting the character from a previous match carries over. Its duration may elapse due to the one hour wait, but he is still affected by it.
Special abilities are not restored unless said abilities can be recharged in an hour or less.

Anyone whose sheet does not check out before the round begins will need to change rounds (although a second sheet check is not necessary). Rounds are listed here by designation. Reason: Do I really need one?
Re: The Arena Tournament Recruiting Thread 6: Pure Hack-n'-Slash PvP! •Always Recruit
Text is specifically "Three times per day, you can reduce by one level the cost of a metamagic feat applied to a spell of the chosen school. If you prepare spells, you can have only up to three such reduced-cost spells prepared at any time." (not sure if posting this violates ToS, I will remove if it does)
Re: The Arena Tournament Recruiting Thread 6: Pure Hack-n'-Slash PvP! •Always Recruit
Not my fault! TheFallenOne wouldn't let me advance.
Still, I have a cunning proposition. Would Aguacatl be interested in teaming up with De' Athbypro Xie in the Beta? Xie wasn't exactly built for 2v2 combat, but maybe, just for the shear novelty of fighting with you instead of against you, he'd give it a try.
@V
At least the last four, if not five or six consecutive rounds I've been in have included one of your builds. Just checking if wanted to try something different.
I'll leave Xie in Alpha then for now then: Neither match looks to be in any hurry to start. Best luck with your gladiators, at least against everyone but by own guys of course.

So, now, after all you DO want to team up eh? Well, I'm uncertain, I told my brother to create a second character to go with Aguacatl. But he's been quite busy, so I don't know if he's gonna do it. I guess we can pull it if I see he just won't make it in time.

Hey now, how would I look as a High Ref if I didn't finally get a Level 2 character to my name? The Round Championship is the cherry on top
oh, and I'm totally in favour of you and Scorer teaming up in Beta, otherwise my poor commoner might run into Xie in Alpha where'd you get your sweet revenge: If I draw you as first opponent I couldn't even affort the Resist Energy potion with 20 GP starting wealth
Also, submitting Sturmherz for Level 2 checking. Put him in Gamma IV please

Dormin Falath, the least Shadowcaster-y Shadowcaster who ever cast shadows has reached level 2 and needs rechecking after his level-up. He's got soulmelds, he's got psionic powers, he's got racial SLAs - he'd probably be about the same as an Expert, but no! The Shadowcaster will live on!
