He shakes his head sadly.
"A long time ago, we could do both. Nowadays one or the other. Almost all of them are dead now, anyway. I came here after getting thrown out of my church, cause I didn't want them executing my sister.
I did some good; foiled a kidnapping or two, saved a few kids, shut down a slaving ring, helped out travelers, found lost people, helped others get lost, fought evil armies, etc."
Arlem shrugs, but can't hide a smile.
"Then I made a few big mistakes. Got myself cursed, twice, my aunt died, my fiance left forever, a friend betrayed me and then I decided it wasn't all worth it. Drowned myself."
He's positively grinning now.
"They dragged me back to life for whatever reason, and here I am. Broken in little pieces, nothing to do but find bad guys to cut up."
