So incredibly jealous though. On the other hand, my husband and I had a playfight with the sword and the lightsaber, I had the sword and I won He was probably going easy on me and didn't want to break the lightsaber. It's a lot more fragile and cost a lot more.

We decided to start slow to warm up. He sped up suddenly, took a little bit off one of my knuckles, and we realized it was a bad idea. =P

Not going to scoff, but I am going to say, if your first was sold to you as '440 carbon steel' you...may have been ripped off. "440" is the general mark for stainless steel swords sold online and such.
1040 is generally considered the minimum carbon level for re-enactment or practical cutting. Anything lower is too soft, anything higher than 1075 is considered too brittle and liable to crack, chip or snap.
It's got a nice enough sheath, though, so maybe...How long have you had it? Do you keep it oiled, or maybe waxed? If not, how often have you had to clean it or remove rust? Cause if the answers to that are 'a while,' 'no,' and 'very rarely/never,' it's...not combat-worthy, I'm afraid.
The dagger, on the other hand; stainless steel is fine for blades under a certain length, especially provided a certain thickness. It's above (IIRC) the 12 inch mark that it's not suitable as a usable blade. I've got a fantasy knife made of stainless steel with a nice little medusa-head pommel and such...nice thick blade (not broad, thick) and completely capable of doing a lot of damage to a few people before it would break...
