Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
While I'm sure a lot of time went into listing all of these classes, without any idea of what they do, for a lot of people they will just be words meaning nothing listed under the names of books they have never heard of.
Throw the dice high.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
If such descriptions were added, the thread would suddenly become a much more useful resource. I think a lot of people would like a thread where they could go to get a quick summary of obscure classes, whether they are looking for something particular or just looking for inspiration.
Throw the dice high.

Holy Bleepity Bleep Bleep! You are my hero. I adore obscure classes. They make my DMs scream in nerd rage as they accuse some of these classes as "Overpowered," including the rare melee class that was balanced off of Wizard...

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
It'd also be helpful to nest some more spoilers for particular categories (everything from a particular publisher, for instance). In particular, the official WotC-endorsed ones should be separated out.
As it is, it's not even clear what the order of them is.Time travels in divers paces with divers persons.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
Hm. Maybe we could add rough tier estimates?
I know that Chaos Mage, for one, is at LEAST Tier 2. Probably about T1.
Let's get started.
Also, toss on the DSP stuff. Because DSP.Last edited by The-Mage-King; 2012-04-04 at 01:02 PM.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
While it's good to see many of the larger names in third party material recognized, this list seems...incomplete.
Where's the Dreamscarred Press's psionic classes? Or Radiance House's binder classes?

Secrets of Pact Magic should be on there. I put them on, but I have 5 or so copies of this list on my computer...I might have actually put a (slightly ) incomplete one up.
However, I was unaware of Dreamscarred Press's...existence. Thanks for showing me! I'll add them in a minute.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
Since you're including 3rd-party, and NPC classes, Dreamscarred Press made a psionic Adept-like class called the Augur.
There's a number of other classes on that wiki as well, coming from their other published d20 works like Untapped Potential, the Mind Divine, High Psionics etc, such as the Society Mind, Marksman and Thoughtsinger. See here.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
Tiers would be good. And I'm adding the DSP stuff now (I'd never seen that particular resource before).
Yeah I know. A lot of formatting an organization has to happen. The thing is, this was originally my own personal resource I'd use for inspiration when homebrewing or writing adventures, so I never needed it to be that organized
I'll separate WotC ones out soon also.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
Umm, under the player's handbook there should be 11 base classes. You left out monk. Was that deliberate?
And I second that you differentiate between official WOTC and 3rd-party publishers, as not all DMs permit 3rd party. Also, versioning would be nice - isn't Oriental Adventures 3.0?
Great work so far, though.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
It'd be great if you could help
Yeah. I think that we should limit the classes descriptions to a few key categories:
Tier
Role (spellcaster, skill monkey, gish, etc.)
VERY broad overview of the flavor. Give closest PHB or official PrC approximation.
Give the most important details (e.g. the Theurge from Mythic Vistas: Medieval Player's Handbook uses more ritualistic details).
If racial or alignment restrictions exist, specify them.
So for example, I'm thinking a description could look like this.
Corwyl, Village of the Wood Elves (Green Ronin Publishing)
The Cerellian Knight
Low Tier 4 melee fighter, similar to ranger with the ability to boost his strength in a manner similar to a barbarian. Good only.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
You should probably list third party classes and official classes separately, since many DM's don't allow third party classes and some books are so obscure that it's hard to tell at first glance whether they're one or the other.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
Just a word of warning; the secret collage of Necromancy's Necromancer class is broken. Like infamously broken. So much in fact that you should probably put up a warning telling people it's just that broken. It gets 9th level spells BEFORE A WIZARD, and gets Energy Drain(a 9th level spell) as an SLA before it gets 9th level spells. I just thought I'd let you know.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
While it gets spells quicker, and more of them, they are quite limited. I'd pick wizard casting over Necromancer any day of the week.
Energy Drain once per day is... less than impressive. An Ur-Priest can prepare it at level 14, and a wizard can just do Split Ray on an Enervation and get the same results. As ninth level spells go, Energy Drain is not that impressive.Throw the dice high.

Re: A Complete List of 3.5 Base Classes (over 400!), including 3rd party publishers
I suppose your right, and the class is very flavorful compared to other necromancers I've seen so it gets a pass I suppose. However, Encyclopedia Arcana: Necromancy Beyond the Grave is still my all time 3rd party supplement dealing with necromancy. That and hollowfaust. I have a massive collection of 3rd party necromancy-related books since Necromancy and Enchantment are my favorite magic schools in the entire game. The Necromancer from Secret Collage is still a unique class, and has some very, very nice and flavorful exclusive spells. It's a nice alternative to the Dread Necro for those who want an arcane necromancer who is not as fail at making undead at the wizard, though the Dread Necro is still an awesome class. I've played a secrect collage necromancer before, with the intent to "ballance" it after I played it, needless to say it was a fun class. A good necromancer to boot. The lack of awaken undead saddened me, though.

Hm. I see a way to make it better organized...
Organize it into a table in a word processor with a search and replace function, then proceed to fill in the table appropriately.
Then copy, paste here, copy the pasted thing to a second document, and use the replace to fix the table. Tada! Organized, and sortable by source, tier, name, or type!
When you need to update parts, just fill in the original table more, copy/paste/copy, replace, and continue.Avatar by Ceika.

The Eberron Players Guide, Savage Species, and Unearthed Arcana are all WOTC, aside from that, it looks good.
