The rules of Random Banter
(Please follow these to ensure a safe and pleasant journey)

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

Also, Wombat, if you don't mind me asking, what is the full extent of your artistic endeavors? (AKA: How much did you study, if you did indeed study, and is it your primary "job.")

Art is always a thing I'll gladly talk about.

I went to school for it, and graduated in 2009 with a degree in Art Education, with a generalist track, meaning I did EVERYTHING art, including by not limited to - welding, ceramics, sculpture (wood, plaster, clay, metal), painting (watercolor, oil, acrylic), photography (digital, traditional), printmaking, silkscreening, photoshop/illustrator, video editing, art history (where my history nerd card lies, forgive me), and of course, underwater basket weaving.

I'm likely missing a kind or two, but yeah...I can do everything. (though I no longer have the facilities to do half of it).

As far as what I've done with it, I struggled for about 3 years trying to find an art education job, and worked part time a bunch (for a year), sometimes in places that might be leads into an art job, but nothing followed through, after about a year into that 3 years, I ended up full time in security and I've been here ever since, and stopped looking when schools began cutting art programs all over my area, as well as 160 schools in my area closed, making the remaining amount of teaching jobs out there have more people trying to get them, and most of them quite more experienced than me.

Now I do art on a commission basis for customers, and try and limit myself to a few projects at a time so that I don't get overwhelmed or be late on a deadline, especially since I work full time, and am planning a wedding. Still, I'm productive enough that I was able to sell enough art to pay for my fiancee's engagement ring, so there's that. Commissions started about a year ago, and have been coming in at a steady pace ever since. I'm just hoping at some point to also do a few art lessons locally, and maybe someday find that art teaching job. In the mean time, I dream of the day I'll start my own art school, and counter the terribleness that is cutting the arts acrossed the country in order to "teach to the test". But that's all I'll say on that subject, lest I get into political rants...

So... I was playing Civilization V, then the computer decided to turn itself off. (This is what I get for not turning it off when my siblings don't think to)

I was even doing really well. I didn't have too large of an army, but I had three large cities, was building a bunch of wonders, was ahead technologically, had already finished a policy tree (Tradition), and had wrecked the world economy. I'll put it this way. I was (I think) the only country I knew of still making money, and 1-2 were even LOSING money every turn. I also founded the first pantheon and the only religion at that point.

I know I had things to quote but I kinda forgot how that can be done with a closed thread, so yeah. Yikes that is a lot to lose. I hate computer issues. Mine sometimes goes to a blank black screen when I try to play certain games, and can only be reset by pulling the plug. Annoying. Well good for that aforementioned autosave at least, right?

Aww yeah he has seemed to be gone quite a while. I think I saw a post from him somewhere, but I may have been imagining it. Truly my memory is crud right now.



ION: Now, I don't want to seem to be seeking attention, but my mood is very crappy right now. Trying to shake sad feelings has only made it worse. Now I'm frustrated and disappointed and full of self-doubt. Maybe I will discuss the full thing in PW&A, it may be good for me to do. Anyway, does anyone have any random funnies that come to mind? I don't, and it might help a bit.

I guess aside from that just at home and gonna be cooking soon, and thinking about sleeping more of the day away besides so I can stay up super late and watch YouTube videos during my computer bonus data time. This is probably the emotions talking but tonight feels like an all-nighter. Serendipity! I hope it works.

Yeah... I kinda started a new game, and wound up presumably overwriting the autosave. But hey, I think I'm doing even better in this file. Which I remembered to save.

I only have 3 cities, and one was built 100 turns in. I'm leading technologically, religiously, culturally, and in wonder count. I haven't finished any policy trees, but I have solid starts on Tradition and Piety (I have a Reformation belief). My religion is tailored specifically to boost tourism eventually. I'm poised to begin a small war with Rome over truffles. I have a monopoly on gold. And, of course, I'm the only civ I know of making money.

So, I took an extra day off for a super long weekend. But two of the kids were home, and Andre was off doing Andre stuff, so I had to be Mom all day. It's amazing how kids just KNOW when you are trying to relax and do nothing, and they seem to be even more needy than usual.

Anyway, so I completely thought it was Monday all day, since today was more or less just like a regular weekend day.

Next time I take a day off, I want to be the only one here.
