I started re-reading the entire comic a couple days ago, and I realized something. If you write down all the information presented in the comic about the fiction RPG system within (like the skills, disadvantages, tables, and other things), you can piece together a coherent RPG (albeit, one where you'd have to make a couple houserules).

Newest comic. Forget blistering, with how close they get, their FLESH SHOULD IGNITE! Or at least their clothing. We even see it happen at the end! Why didnt they start burning during the fight when they are floating 6 inches above the lava, and yet anakin catches fire after he loses and is lying there screaming about hate?

Of course, because as we all know the camera makes the lava look 300 degrees hotter than it actually is! In fact, the lava surrounding them is actually rare cold lave which is just above room temperature.
Or they aren't as close to the lava as it seems. Maybe the depth perception is screwed up.
Or Lucas gave a **** about physics. Pick your doom.

Also, I guess it is realistic in D&D 4 but... hell when was D&D ever realistic? Make it deal lots of damage but not instant death, that's harsh.

In 3.5, fire resistance 1 or higher gives you immunity to lava.

The 4E DMG actually doesn't mention lava as far as I can tell.

The only detailed 4E rules for volcanic environments are in Draconomicon I: Chromatic Dragons- and they don't involve instant death. They do involve large amounts of damage, and anyone who gets out has ongoing damage and is slowed (save ends).

It's the third-party system-neutral supplement Fire And Brimstone: The Comprehensive Guide To Lava, Magma, And Superheated Rock that has the rules you need.

What? Lava does, if I remember, 20d6 fire damage per round. That's a bit more than one damage, even at minimum.

Nope, any amount of fire resistance stops it all, no matter how little resistance you have or how much damage it would have done.

"An immunity or resistance to fire serves as an immunity to lava or magma."

No. Once it begins, you follow through with the whole process, CPR and magical healing be damned. They forgot to include any way to combat it until a late and somewhat obscure splatbook (Stormwrack).

So in 3.5 a bucket of water was more dangerous than a volcano if you had basic fire resistance? Now that's what I call realism! Next Dragon I meet I'll just try to drown. Let's see what the DM says.

Pfft, thats not epic, BEAVERS fight rivers! What kind of an epic hero has trouble with an encounter small woodland creatures are able to master?

Yeah but he was fricken crazy. The "rage" of Achilles that Homer talks about at the beginning is more accurately translated as "divine madness." Guy was off his meds.

Also, Sally is starting to scare me again. I'm hoping she doesn't go back to wanting to be a politician--or worse, a political writer.

How about an amputation of both legs and an arm? (Seriously, I cant quite figure out how he managed to sever three limbs in one deft move.... and not the fourth)

I have to admit the dialogue in the Annie / Ben duel is terrific for amping up the suspense. Its kinda too bad that I already know who will win.
