My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is a reboot of the MLP franchise by Powerpuff Girls artist Lauren Faust, currently viewed by (almost) the entire Internet, not only the intended audience. Here is a place where we discuss the joy of friendship.

It's a clever show. It has excellent writing, character dynamics, humor, animation, and generally treats kids seriously rather than condescending to them. It has every right to be a 20 minute corporate committee designed infomercial, but it's not.

Pixar technically makes shows for little boys, and produce some of the best animation in the world.

No Brony could ask for more. I recommend watching the episodes in order. They're all up on Youtube. Unusually, Hasbro seems fine with having the entire series up in public because they've made no move to bring down any of the episodes. Search for "Friendship is Magic Episode 1" and you should find the series pretty easily... Or search for "Sharing is Magic" Google Doc. That is all.

Whoa, calm down there. The show is light hearted, optimistic fun but it's not for everyone. It's good fun, the community is good fun, and everyone can do with a reminder that friendship is magic but if it doesn't gel for you we'll love and tolerate you anyway. Plus, you might hit the wrong episode. Ask first?

All in good fun! If it's not your cup of tea, skim it, but this show has triggered a great creative outpouring from the Internet. Pony themed fan-art is abundant and often excellent. See below for some examples.

> Derpy Hooves/Doctor Whoof

Two minor background characters who were adopted as emblems of 4chan. Derpy Hooves is so named due to an animation error in the first episode that had her eyes facing in different directions; 4chan has assigned her the role of Ponyville's mailpony, and her only line so far has been "Muffins". The show's animators are aware of Derpy's popularity and she's shown up a few times recently with her eyes obviously derped. Currently made canon in Feeling Pinkie Keen and in Faust's picture showcased below, Derpy was deemed important enough to appear in storyboards for Season II.

Dr. Whoof is a pony with an hourglass cutie mark; he and his kin save time and space very quietly off camera.

Well, Deadly's here to help you get rid of them... with a vengeance! Create a new bookmark in your browser and copy the code below as the link/url of said bookmark. Name it something helpful, like "Spoilers B GONE!" or whatever. Then whenever you view a thread here on GitP you just hit the bookmark and BAM! no more spoilers.

You won't even see the boxes, just the bare innards in all their gory glory.

It also makes sure that no image is wider than 600px, to avoid stretching pages, and will attempt to "intelligently" remove repeated images except avatars. Neat, huh? Sadly that last part means stuff like pony emotes may get lost but the forum doesn't make it easy for me to single out images in quotes as I'd have liked... that's an open problem, I guess.

Tested in Firefox, Chrome and Opera. Should work in any modern browser, but you never know with these things.

Not much. We had a debate about the nature of humanity a while back and a discussion about why we like MLP.

If I remember correctly there were no signs of the EoH being used. They banished him to shadow without a problem. Well one problem. Sombra prepared a spiteful trap to banish the Crystal Empire when he was defeated, which really suits his style of traps and plans.

Celestia managed to use the EoH against NMM. The EoH are basically the trump card to any foe.

Banished/Imprisoned or Banished and then Imprisoned is how the Royal Pony Sisters have dealt with every villain they have beaten. Discord? Imprisoned in Stone. Nightmare Moon? Banished to the Moon, Imprisoned there. Sombra? Banished to/Imprisoned in the Ice. I don't see any difference on that note.

As for why they wouldn't use the EOH as their final attack, because they didn't need it. Which given they didn't need it in the episode and we see them comfortably not needing it in the flashback, isn't a plot hole unless for some reason you assume that they were using the EoH in the flashback. Needing the EoH in the flashback and then not sending them when he returns would be a huge plot hole, in comparison.

Ponies casting powerful magic by touching horns to pool their power into a single spell is not only clearly what we see in the clip, but also something that has precedence from another episode.

I don't just have a hard time believing your argument. I have a hard time believing that you believe it, either.

Looking closely at the flashback on the highest definition youtube supports. The beam is not rainbow, but comprised of yellow, blue, and white. So you know, Celestia and Luna's magic.

Also the beam came out of their horns, and their horns were glowing. Both things you don't really see when Twilight uses the Elements.

Celestia even describes the fight as "Sombra was overthrown, but we were too late. He placed a powerful curse on the Crystal Empire causing it to vanish into thin air."

So there is no plot hole. Celestia and Luna wiped the floor with him, but he thought ahead and prepared his revenge before he lost. Why didn't they use their most powerful weapon? Because they didn't need to and weren't expecting the spiteful vengeance curse on the Empire. Really we never see anypony immediately resort to the EoH unless that is the only option.

Yes, you missed - rainbow magic in show was always result of EoH. Watch better copy than Youtube tv-rip, it's there, if obscured. Also, if you think it was not elements, maybe explain why they didn't use their most powerful weapon, or why Twilight didn't take them (maybe, just maybe, she knew they were used once before and failed).

And how about the fact every other villain was neutralized effortlessly with elements while all they were able to do to Sombra was to imprison him and they still failed at their primary objective (liberating Crystal Empire, as he took it with himself as final middle hoof). Plus, narration makes it obvious it was longer battle with only final moment shown.

Oh, and unlike all the other villains beaten by EoH he was able to free himself without any outside help. It's all in first episode of S3, maybe go (re)watch it (in good quality)?

First off, that clip was in 1080p. I don't know how you expect to find anything better.

Second, that beam of light was not rainbow colored, it was yellow and purple, with gradients between them. Every other time we have seen a rainbow in the show, the colors have been very distinct. They were definitely not the Elements of Harmony.

Third, just because it was a difficult fight doesn't mean that the Princesses aren't powerful. They were fighting Sombra on his home turf, where he had a whole nation's resources to draw on, as well as whatever clever plans he had to begin with. Just to start, I'm almost certain that he would use ~~human~~ pony shields to keep them from simply blasting him away.

Third, why wouldn't they use Elements of Harmony? I can't say for sure, though Celestia didn't send the Elements with Twilight either, so perhaps it's not an option for whatever reason. Or perhaps they were simply (over)confident in their abilities and didn't feel the need to use them.

Fourth, I'm glad this all came up, because I forgot how cool the animation is in that scene.

As for a Pony D&D they could just play mythical races that walk on two legs. Some have pointy ears, some have an unmatched thirst for alcohol and beards, some are scaly and can turn into gods ect.

But the beams from the elements of harmony come out of the Elements, here the beam came out or the Princesses' horns, and the first time The Mane 6 used the Elements, there was no horn glow, so horn glow is not a required part of element activation, and if it was, Rarity's horn would Blow to, but her's never does when the elements are used.

and the Picture book from the first Episode shows the Element of Magic, as a Tiara, on Celestia's head when she Banished Nightmare Moon, Which implies that the Elements were Jewelry then(Why they were rocks when The Mane 6 found them I have no Clue) yet Celestia And Luna are shown wearing there normal outfits.

as for why they would not use the Elements against Sombra, Well maybe they only work against things like Nightmare Moon and Discord. Before he was turned into living Shadow Sombra was Presumable an Ordinary, if powerful, Unicorn.

Point A: Uh, no?
Ultimately means At last, in the end, finally. Struggle or no struggle is simply not relevant, only the implication of a passage of time. Ie, he ruled, but in the end he was overthrown.

B: You're reaching. The section specifies no such thing. It specificially does not show him doing anything as he's taken down, other than wailing in defeat. The logical answer is that the curse was something he'd already instigated because it requires fewer assumptions.

As for the white eyes in silluette, that same effect is used in Luna Eclipsed. Unless you are suggesting she borrowed the Elements to make her entrance with, the items in question were in a whole other town at the time. There's no definitive link between white eyes and elements.

They are powerful, but they are not gods fanon used to make them. That was thoroughly killed in S2/3. At best, they have that 'highest class unicorn' level, IMHO, we never saw Celestia or Luna do things on par with Starswirl or Sombra. Both times Celestia tries to fight, she loses, once offscreen, even.

Disclaimer: they might be more powerful, but I have strict policy 'WYSIWYG power level' as I am sick of fanon making Mary Sue of every conceivable character.

It wasn't full rainbow, but it was also a flashback. The whole scene was in brownish colours, ans not in bright ones. colours.

The point is that it isn't a rainbow. We've seen a rainbow every time the EoH are used. This time we only see colors that are associated with the ponies in question. Just like every other time we see magic used.

Look again, when the rainbow appears there is no glow on her horn. Her eyes do glow white, but Twilight also did that all on her own when she got her cutie mark.

Basically they aren't a match at all.

Ultimately just means in the end. In doesn't imply difficulty, time of fight, or how long he ruled. What we see is one spell taking him out.

And she doesn't say that at all. Just that he laid the curse before they defeated him. Which could be anytime ever.

The Crystal Heart's effects on all of Equestria is one of the weakest parts of that episode as the happiness of Equestria didn't disappear with the Crystal Empire. But as a counter point, if they didn't get the dragon to leave Equestria would have been covered in smog for a hundred years. Yet they didn't bring the EoH with them to kick him out of the cave.

So no, canon makes no mention of the EoH and requiring them requires a stretch of logic and what we see. It also creates a plot hole as mentioned earlier (the Mane 6 didn't bring the EoH with them.) Their ease of victory and how deadly Sombra was, in the past, is entirely left to headcanon. Since I have a poor opinion of Sombra I think that victory was easy and Sombra wasn't very deadly.

Hey, guess what! Fighting is Magic gave us a brief update! And on my birthday, too. Today is a good day.

That said, I've actually been avoiding this thread a bit, and the entire media section specifically because of it... not that I don't think you guys are one of the coolest groups I've ever seen on the net, but because... well... the idea of My Little Pony's fanbase became kinda depressing to me... I'm happy enough today to be willing to ask; would anyone mind if I dumped a little emotional baggage? If not, I understand.

In any case, FIM is still a work in progress, but I'm very happy that it's progressing at all! Anyone else still interested in that?
