I mean by this that women are supposed to be gatekeepers, that they are considered prostitutes if they have a noticeable libido BUT that they're also called [REDACTED] if they withhold sex from their male partner, that men are supposed to always want to have sex with men/women/everyone (?!), and that a man who doesn't or who is not particularly good at it is either inexperienced, ill or old, that anyone who hasn't had sex past age 21 is considered creepy or untouchable, and that there's such a thing as peer pressure....

That's a lot of things to study in relation to asexuality.
Sex and it's position in society are horribly screwed up.

Sorta tangential; but this is about women's value being their attractiveness to men: Why "I prefer small boobs" isn't helping. (The comment section also touches quite nicely on allyship; though there is a lot of derailing and appropriation of the topic going on... )

I have a problem with the word cis (and to a lesser extend trans). I'm so used to thinking about it as a word used to describe the cis/trans stereoisomerism that I'm incapable of thinking of a human being anytime someone says cis.

Ahah yes, "I prefer small boobs", and its twice-removed cousin "you would be so pretty if you did X". Because it's so important to be sexy and please people. Because either you are sexy, or you are ugly and worthless, and you can't just look good with your own style without also making someone want to have sex with you.
I may be asexual, but I suffered a lot from being perceived as ugly until I managed to get over it. And yet, I would enjoy it a lot if nobody beside my boyfriend perceived me as sexually attractive. Just not worthless because of my appearance, and not horrible to look at.

    Spoiler

Shortly before I understood my feelings for him, my boyfriend (then best friend) complained to me over texts that he was tired of girls dismissing him, saying they would only date taller men (him being short compared to the average man for unfortunate but obvious reasons). I struggled for a decent reply:
"Well, I would date you? No, bad answer, it's not like I'm going to... not that he's bad-looking, but I'm not going to... he's like a brother to me... BUT he would make an awesome boyfriend... but not to me, so it's not gonna help at all... I don't care about size anyway... but he doesn't care about my personal preference, so why even do it... durrrrrr durr can't brain today."
Then I decided whatever I would say would come out wrong anyway and sent back a bad sex joke dismissing these girls and it comforted him a bit.

In other news, my sentimental life sounds like it's coming right out of a sitcom.

Natalie's latest article on the term cis.
... there are people who think that's the etymology behind "cis"?
Gee, words are complicated, amirite gaiz.
Why are all those words somehow gaining offensive meanings/connotations? I have the growing desire to force everyone to sit the hell down, provide each one with an extensive dictionary, and THEN start discussions and debates all over again without the vocabulary inanity. :/

I feel really bad about linking to the survey now. I completely forgot it asked about bad experiences. I feel like a bad person.

At one point there's a bunch of questions regarding the most serious physical or sexual assault that's happened to you in the past five years.
I was the victim of a sexual assault some years ago, and being asked a bunch of questions about the situation (and the offender (and how I handled it)) by a machine survey has shaken me pretty badly.

The worst part is, I can't help but feel that I'm being too sensitive about it and am being selfish for wishing they had put some kind of trigger warning up before.
Except that there really is no being too sensitive about this. Or at least, it is obvious that it stirred up a whole lot of bad feelings and I have to acknowledge them now I'm aware of them.
I guess they decided not to include a "skip this if it makes you uncomfortable"-button for practical reasons, but that doesn't really prevent me from feeling weird now.

I guess what I can take with me from the survey is that I'm not done working with it. Complicated. *sigh*

Of course, it doesn't help that the assault has been surfacing the past few weeks due to a guy I met in a bar who wanted me to be more... assertive in our .. conversation - and that started a lot of thoughts about power, powerlessness and how I feel about my body and other people. Kind of hard to talk about in polite company, but I hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes.

And I really needed to get this off my chest.
    I'm really sorry.

Right now, in an IRC, we have had some people get married who met through the IRC, and at the moment, at least 3 people who met through the IRC are togther romantically. Infact, one of them just flew from canada to scotland to be with them.

If anyone wants a link to that IRC, let me know. Very friendly place.

I've found through the unusually large (read: more than HALF) of the (and specifically) the lesbian and female bisexual population at my school are actually faking it due to not wanting to be in a relationship.

Yeah, it's cruel. Yes, I realize now this is what happened to me, and that I pushed my ex too far. I now feel awful for an entirely different reason.

How do I know this? I asked plenty of girls who learn this stuff from the very girls I'm talking about. Don't take this as offense. It's not in any way.

On the subject of Natalie's post on cis not being a slur, I'm completely amazed and fascinated by the things people come out with. I mean, it's SO obvious that "cis" is the opposite of "trans", all you would have to do if you hadn't come across it in science or Latin or whatever would be to ask and/or google. (Okay, the first thing you get when you google is something about the "Commonwealth of Independent States" in the US but whatever, it's pretty obvious that's not it.) It's just ridiculous!

Probably but if it is as he states more then half the population I doubt that all of them are. I wouldn't be surprised if 20% or 25% of a population were some sort of LBGTA+ but half or more being solely lesbian or bi is to much.

According to the statistics in Iceland around 15% of the population is gay or bi (around 10% gay and 5% bi) and I think I've heard similar numbers from other countries so factor in other LGBTA+ and closeted people and yeah you might reach 20-25%.

Ahem. I'm Carecalmo! Pretty gay in the sexuality continuum, don't really know where I fit in genderwise. Right on the edge of genderqueer, perhaps? I just think that men should wear more cheap lipstick. And everybody should disguise themselves more.
Also male! My avatar can be a bit misleading, but I like to think I'm showing off a pretty male jawline there.
Also single and attractive and fond of wearing short shorts.
I agree with everything you just said.

Yep. You'd need some sort of continuum chart or something otherwise.

Then again, the general dynamics between men and women being what they are, that alone can't be considered a reliable clue.
    *breathes again*
That's a lot of things to study in relation to asexuality.
*Hugs* Almost everything people in general tend to believe about sexuality is unhealthy and weird. My brain hurts just counting them, nevermind deconstruction.

... there are people who think that's the etymology behind "cis"?
Gee, words are complicated, amirite gaiz.
Why are all those words somehow gaining offensive meanings/connotations? I have the growing desire to force everyone to sit the hell down, provide each one with an extensive dictionary, and THEN start discussions and debates all over again without the vocabulary inanity. :/
That's the thing about slurs... Most of them didn't start as slurs. I'd provide examples, but... Yeah, it's pretty messed-up :/

I don't know whether cis is being used in such a way enough to damn it, but apparently some people actually do use it as a slur... I really wish they wouldn't. :/

It is an RPey sort of room and there is some TF and stuff, but generally people just chat. And it is connected to the 910cmx forums and by extention the wotch comic, but it is in name only now.

    You take a needle.
Then stick them with the pointy end. (I've been rereading Game of Thrones lately)

    Also *hugs*.
When I feel dysphoric (in the general sense), it usually helps me to verbalize as much as I can - best to another person, but I also talkwrite a lot to blank paper. I start with stating the exact bodily sensations, feelings, tinglings and then explore them from there.
Of course, that isn't exactly the easiest thing to do when feeling unhappy.

Aw, please don't. I didn't even think I would react the way I did. Usually I'm much better at talking/thinking about it. And besides, I hardly think I could have stumbled upon it a better place than here - a safe place to get the bad feelings off my chest and you guys really did a great job of making me feel better about it.

@Asta: It is hard to say. I think a little bit of both? In some ways I found it quite touching - the entire question of "insane or normal but different and out of place".
I am a bit unsure of what you think he's being serious about? Or joking about, for that matter.
To me, it sounds like a story of somebody being oppressed, breaking, lashing out, being punished - and the rest of us asking: How did that happen? Why didn't we give that Peter Pan a Neverland? - that's what I get from it at least.

No, they claim to be gay is what I'm saying. It's not that they claim they aren't, it's that they claim they are.

My friend who is LGBT+ calls them "Barsexuals"; girls of the same sex who date to make guys leave them alone, while simultaneously making them jealous.

Just saw this, which was all heartwarming and lovely and such.

    But...

Then I realised that reading about a traditional wedding between straight, cis people wouldn't affect me in the slightest. That none of that warm fuzzy feeling, none of the 'awwww, that's so sweet' would have come up. That I would in fact have been terribly bored by the whole thing and closed the tab within seconds. Even a non-traditional wedding with xkcd, dogs and such wouldn't have made me anywhere near as happy if it were between straight cis people. And that's a bit worrying, because what makes their love for each other less heartwarming, less sweet and adorable and all other such things? And now that I'm typing this, I've realised that the squee-inducing picture Astrella linked recently is the same; had it involved a straight couple it just wouldn't have interested me that much.

I'm not sure if I'm going anywhere with this, but it distresses me somewhat.
