*hugs* Were you not sheared properly this summer?!

We did not get much hotter than usual this year, fortunately; the heat waves were longer and drier, that's all.

He's still.. Xanatos, hes literally like, peak human. He's Batman with an Iron Man suit. Hard to really get up on that level.

I got a haircut in August, right after my birthday. It BARELY grew back in time for my school id photo to be... Recognizably me (the hair, It was still too short then).

They started playing a bit of warren zevon on the sound system after he finished his last song, so that helped a bit.

Then the roar of people talking over one another in an enclosed space got to be too much so I ended up walking home with my cider chai latte and then biking the rest of the way as hard and as fast as I could, which was depressingly less fast than I wanted.

edit Oh, the Tallis Scholars are a musical group. I imagined you meant some kind of monastic order who practice embalming. Why is that the first thing my mind assumed?!

That rain generator is so wonderful -- the help it gives me concentrating at work and study is invaluable.
    No, this music.
It is most excellent to listen to with the gentle sound of rain in the background.

Indeed. I shall hire them to perform at my funeral. But first, I must construct a suitable building for the event...
And you probably thought they were a religious organisation that practised embalming because I used the term funerary temple. They built a lot of them in Ancient Egypt.

Some things just make me so annoyed. And one of the most annoying of those things is when people make literature boring.

    So.
Was mucking around on TVTropes when I found that Daphne can actually do things in the latest iteration of Scooby Doo.
    Sing.
So I clicked on the link, expecting something a little poppy, you know, kid-friendly. But what the Hell, a bit of a nostalgia bomb's good for you.
That is not what I got.
This is what I got. Goth!Daphne all in leather or PVC. To be precise: thigh high leather boots, a very micro-mini, corset, opera gloves and a . . . neck corset thingy.
    Voiced by Azula.
I know Daphne's always been rather attractive, but that's just kinkily hot. Even if her eyes creep me out.
    Singing with the Hex Girls.
Now. See. I remember when the Hex Girls first appeared on Scooby Doo. It was one of their DTV films, and pretty much the most memorable part of the film. I vastly prefer the Hex Girls' appearances from that film.
Thorn (the singer/guitarist) was much hotter then. I think I first saw that when I was ten or so, Thorn was so damn pretty then too.
I blame the Hex Girls (in part) for my liking of the Goth movement.
My theory is that they wanted Daphne to stand out a lot, which is why they gave the Hex Girls such a visual makeover.
But see, that's not actually much of a theory seeing as Daphne was dressed as a stripper.

    ION:
There's this film I've been wanting to see for years. Dogma. In the UK it's pretty much on Film4 every month or so, so I keep meaning to catch it on the tellybox before acquiring it for myself.
There's a standing order at home that people are to inform me when this film's on at least three days in advance.
Yet for some reason I always seem to find out at two points close to the end: when everyone's in the bar with the demon in the white suit; or when one of the angels has gone looping and is flying in circles dropping people onto the pavement.
That's what, twenty minutes from the end?
The whole reason I even want to watch Dogma is because first time that I caught the tale end of the film I saw that Alan Rickman was Metatron, the voice of God; I heartily approve of this casting choice.
Then I found out he's very snarky throughout the entire film and I was all, "WANT!" but my want has failed me as I keep missing it.
Also, is it me or is Alan Rickman eerily young as the Metatron? He was in his early fifties around the time Dogma was filmed, and he most certainly doesn't look it. He just looks compellinglu attractive.
Not in the usual classic way, or the pretty way, but he just is. AND HIS HAIR. /ramblings

    CURLY! AWAY!

    EDIT:
So the last thing recently discussed was the Tallis Scholars and their very pretty music, then I come in and I'm all 'why are these people attractive like this they shouldn't be what.'
So I can invoke 'high class discussions' about history, literature, music, philosphy and such; but on the other hand completely derail things into the lowest brow thing possible.
    Go me.

    Dogma?
    Yes.
Quick synopsis. Warning: this is what I have pieced together from the last twenty minutes of the film, and I wasn't paying too much attention then because it was the last twenty minutes of the film. Any inaccuracies are mine.
Two angels (Loki and Bartleby (I think)) were banished to [somewhere on Earth] because [I don't know], but there's this once-in-an-eternity opportunity for them to get back into Heaven for [reasons I also don't know].
    Problem.
Because God said 'You two will never be allowed into Heaven ever again', and God is infallible, if these two ever get into Heaven all of existence is unmade.
    Also, God has been kidnapped.
So the Metatron goes to tell this lady that she must save the universe. Somehow. Also there's four other people who help somehow. One of them is Selma Hayek. Oh, and that first lady is apparently related to Jesus somehow.
There's also a demon involved, again for reasons I don't really know.
From there I'm assuming hijinks ensue. Also swearing and sarcasm.

I'm just happy they used the Metatron because one: cool name, and two: from what I remember from various religious-related things I have read he's actually a relatively obscure angel all things told.
And it's a really cool name.

    Sounds... Interesting...
Oh, and don't worry about. The Tallis Scholars was me planning my funeral.
And references to literature was my dissatisfaction with certain curriculum elements.

Is Dogma not available on DVD on your end of the pond? It's definitely worth the purchase.

Also, Goth Daphne continues the trend of Daphne being the only character on Scooby Doo I want to see on my tv screen.

Doesn't it! You can probably find it online for free or download it somewhere.

Eh, I was planning funerals from the time I was eight. Mostly songs, but hey.
And how are you dissatisfied with parts of your curriculum (in your part of the world)?

    I often do.
    Often in my own posts.
I'm rather good about derailing things. That and posting complete nonsense. See, I tend to hop rather rapidly (often in parenthesis) from topic to topic in a way that probably indicates my brain wiring is a little skewed. Maybe.
I like it myself, but I tend to type as I talk (sometimes, not always (and I certainly don't talk about some of the things I talk about here in RL)) and this tendency does confuse/perplex/amuse/annoy the people with whom I'm talking.
    I haven't done a good-sized wall of text in a while either.

Almost certainly, but try before you buy. Also I've been asking for it as a Christmas present since I was seventeen years old. Four years later, still waiting. And for Repo! The Genetic Opera.

I know. Number of times I've watched that video since I found out. And I'm amazed by her magic skirt. Barely moves an inch. No wonder she wears a cloak when she sits down, she didn't want to flash everyone.
That little clip is making me want to check out that new Scooby Doo series. TVTropes tells me it's actually pretty good and rather dark.

(Also, and I know you have a thread for this, but you're already here so congratulations on your marriage. May you and you partner spend many happy years together.)

There is a perfectly valid reason for Daphne being a little more sexed up every so often in the new Scooby Doo. Her object of affection, Fred, is COMPLETELY oblivious. This version of friend is obsessed, absolutely obsessed, with two things. Ascots (his little necktie thing), and traps. By which I mean from things as simple as noose traps, to as complex as the machine in Mouse Trap. Guy buys a Playboy esque magazine focused around traps AND LEGITIMATELY READS IS FOR THE ARTICLES.
