Of course not. They just appeared out of the blue when the comic started.

Something i'm curious about, Coffee - how many of these characters' backstories 'wrote themselves' for lack of a better word after initial character creation?

Pretty much everybody's, actually, especially with Matt and Janine.

OK... This is now interesting. Can I make a suggestion? I can't see a lot of the finer stuff going on, could you please make the buildings a different shade of black? Otherwise, these last few have got me very interested in the storyline, and less so in the jokes. Keep it coming.

Maybe. But I think they'd probably accept Serrin's word if she backs him up. Now lets just hope whatever he's about to do doesn't backfire.

No, it will be a divination spell that will reveal Peakane's darkest secret.

That or a kidnapping attempt to get to Lloyd.

While I do my college work, here's a fun little tidbit about Aequarian magic.

There's no psionic magic in Aequar. The oldest form of magic is Arcana, and it's the most scientific. The youngest is Druidic magic, although its only the youngest by a century or two, tops.

Isn't "no psionic magic" a staple of D&D homebrew worlds, anyway? "They're too powerful. Banned!"

    PFFFHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Um. No. Psionics are, mechanically, the most balanced type of casting. If ANYTHING should be banned for power, it's Wizards, Clerics and Druids. Possibly also sorcerers, but they're better.

Psionics are often banned because people think they're too sci-fi ish though.

Also, I agree. Fir is awesome. xD

Thing is, the truth and what people think can be two completely different things (people ignoring the max pp spent on a power = ML rule is one thing that makes people think it's broken, also the way psionics is pretty damn good at blasting is another, if they're just using basic blasty casters).

True, true. People do tend to think psionics are broken. And they may make better blasters...

Why exactly is that Psionics don't exist in Aequar? Do you have a particular reason Coffee?

In normal (to the degree it can be normal) D&D verse, psionics seems to be a little more scientific I guess....

Also Draconi Redfir, Maths is s the BASE of everything crunch related in D&D, and if you have played any CRPG chances are that you have played a mana point system which is Power point system by other name.

How many comics of this type have psionic magic in them?

Hey, I had a lot of free time the past few days, so I'll be able to post the next chapter either late tonight or tomorrow morning!

    #152: Think Of The Potential

I really hope this gives you guys a little bit more insight into the nature of magic in Aequar. Also, before you ask, he was far from the first person to think of this idea. It's just that a critical material component of the spell turned out to be a very specific type of sulfur deposit, that is only found near his home in the Alavaan Plains.

And here you see the birth of pesticides! Or, to use the catch-all phrase in this type of thing, magitech (except here, it's called arcantech).

So what do you like about this comic? Also, guess what real-world fungus insanity mold is based off of!

When he was talking about making the vapor toxic, I was wondering why he didn't just use Cloudkill. I thought the reason was that Cloudkill would also kill most of the farmers. Now I find it was just not invented yet (very well done!)

How are they going to deal with the whole killing-the-farmers thing? And isn't it a bit too high level for random farmers to afford?

Thanks! And he wasn't talking about using the spell in the field, he talked about using it to clear out pest infestations in storehouses, where the spell will be trapped and have nowhere to go. Though he didn't think about the last part.

It's Cloudkill. Once people know about it, I'm pretty sure people won't just be using it to clear rodent infestations. Many people will find a spell that instantly kills level 3 or lower people in a 20ft radius without a save (and is a SoD against level 3-6s) very useful.
