Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
Maybe I missed something, but I thought that Lanmolltar should have the same experience as Ervenor and Ganelon (actually more, due to the mapping bonus). That is 4200 XP.
Am I wrong?

...Ok, that's enough playing XP Police.
Thank you.

Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
I see where the confusion is, I think. Your XP and XP Reserve are two separate things. You get XP as soon as you bring treasure back to a town, regardless if it is converted into cash. This XP is used to level up your PC and is done at a rate of 1 GP = 1 XP. The XP Reserve is another amount set aside in case the current character dies and is equal to 90% of what is spent on extraneous stuff: donating money to orphans/the temple, commissioning a statue to commemorate your exploits, hiring bards to compose ballads to your awesomeness, etc.
So, for example, Ervenor has 4200 XP in total and 2160 in reserve. If Ervenor dies, he can create a new character that starts with 2160 XP (and an XP reserve of 0). Does this help?
Lanmolltar gains 3 hp, by the way, which I just rolled on my phone.

Re: colored text - that works for me. I find it helps conversation to jump off the page, so I do like it. I use proper quoted text for verbal talk, and tend to use colored, italicized text for private thoughts - not spoken aloud.
That all being the case, I'll start using dark orange text for Arcturis - I use that in most of my games and I'll get confused if I change colors

I will be holding off an IC "moving along" post tonight in case anyone wants to respond to the new developments. FYI, the Gnomish Caravan is scheduled to arrive on the 10th of Thaumont, or 3 days from the current day, it being the evening of the 7th.

@Vilpich
I forgot to mention that one houserule, located in the "houserule section of the wiki, increases carrying capacity based on Strength.
Got it. Where can I find the rules on how my current encumbrance affects...anything...I looked through the pdf.
Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
No, you can add to your XP reserve as often as desired.

It is at the beginning of the equipment chapter. Also, in the Ape section of the wiki I have included movement rates according to encumbrance; that is effectively all encumbrance affects (there are no penalties to rolls, in other words.).

Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
Final question before I start posting in IC, sorry. When we apply to the guild, according to the book, we need to find a teacher, and spend a week at least learning the spells. If I'm not wrong, that costs money. Including buying the spell in the first place in order to research it. So, what would be a reasonable sum of cash to keep on us for such expenses?

I haven't actually firmed up the rules yet, but it will be something like a 100 gp/year fee and then reduced rates for "tutoring", so I would figure the amounts given in the book to be safe. If you choose not to use a tutor but use their library there will be instead a bonus to chance to learn.

Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
For those interested, the actual map of what has already been explored can be viewed here. Please note that the room marked "Aleena" is where you first meet Aleena, alive, in the solo adventure. Also, the map shows two possiblities for the first solo part; the one I used has the passage heading north after the Aleena room. The passageway marked "Ghouls" is the second unexplored passage in this dungeon.

Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
I have finally added a basic description of the Wizard's Guild to the appropriate section of the wiki. At this point it is essentially a contrivance to get some spells to the PCs and possibly introduce some plot points. However, as with anything, if you guys are making it a more integral part of the game I can certainly flesh it out as needed.

Yes, I'm still mapping, CalamaroJoe. I'll update the map beyond he previously locked door when...well, I don't really get what you mean. What did I miss? :O

Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
Lust to be clear, when the PCs went through the initial door (which I shall refer to as the "goblin door", the one that was barricaded during the last venture) they found a short hallway ending in a stone door on the left, and a hallway continuing straight ahead. My IC post reflected the decision to open the stone door on the left, which turned out to open into the small closet which had previously held the large chest. The stone door just opened turned out to be a cleverly disguised secret door that was not noticed the last time the PCs were in this room. The small room is currently empty, with no sign of foes.
The main option at this point is to leave the room and continue down the unexplored hallway into goblin territory.

Re: [Dark Dungeons -- BECMI Retroclone]In Search of Adventure OOC
Hey guys, after much thought and deliberation I have decided to call it a wrap for this iteration of In Search of Adventure. I would like to thank everyone who participated, you all were a great group to game with and I hope you all had as much fun as I did. At this point, however, I find that I'm getting involved in trying to run this same campaign on another forum but with multiple groups using separate threads; kind of a "living campaign" setting where the broad accomplishments/failures of the various groups ripple across threads. If anyone is interested in trying this out, send me a PM and I'll fill in the details.
Anyway, thanks again, I had a blast.
Todd

No worries - thanks for taking the time to run it for us. I got started late, but enjoyed it while it lasted.
