Writer's Block! [WW]
Writer's Block
The warehouse is busy. Workers run and bustle from here to there, setting up stalls, clearing out and cleaning up the odd goo previously stored there, carrying big boxes of stuff.
And as this is going on, a whole bunch of people take their places behind the stalls, opening up their crates, getting out their laptops, and directing the workers.
Only a few days, and the place hardly looks like a warehouse anymore. A maze of booths and venders, the place is just full. And while various sections are more 'ready' than others, opening day is around the corner.
Of note, the corner where the fanfic writers is still pretty un-ready. The chaotic arguing going on, and the fact that the administrator just randomly scattered everyone was grating on everyone's nerves.
The amateur movie directors weren't having this trouble, set up already in the north section. They were even serving snacks to each other already! And the fledgling Manga artists were leaning back in their fancy chairs.
What did the fanfic-ers have? Disorganized labor, wooden stools, and half-disassembled crates for their booths. And they were discovering hated enemies within their ranks, writers who liked things they hated, or hated things they liked.
Tensions are tight. Is anyone capable of sorting this administrative error out? Where did the workers move that goo too, and what was it?!
rules
SpoilerHey, you might already know how a WereWolf game works (shortened to WW, also called Mafia by some). For those that don't, you can find the basic rules here.
However, this is a variant. That means, while most of the basic rules are the same, some are different.
For example, there are six teams, and not one fits the classic "wolf" description, since they're pretty well equal.
Each player gets assigned to TWO teams, rather than the standard one, and each player gets two powers, rather than one or none.
Each team will want to eliminate two teams for victory; Each player will therefore have a list of either three or four teams to eliminate - and some of their team mates may be on one of those teams, too.
Working with your team to eliminate that team's enemies is important, but you'll also be working to find your enemies within the team (your personal "wolves") and eliminate them before they become a threat.
So, days 48 hours, nights 24 hours (see basic rules), votes in red, changed votesstruck out.
As usual, each night the players PM me, the narrator, Flabort, with their night actions, assuming they have any (they should, unless they get two passive abilities).
Oh, yes. And there will be a minimum 4 holders of each role. If there are any holders, at all.
Factions
SpoilerShippers
These writers write for the beauty of a pairing of characters in a work... Or sometimes for the funniness, and often to gross the other writers out.
They absolutely despise Action Addicts and Worshipers.
Scenery Shippers
To write about the majestic landscapes is precisely what this group of fanfic writers loves most. Reading their best pages, you'd have a better idea of the landscape the story takes place in than of the characters!
They are quite willing to destroy Action Addicts and Crossers.
Anti-Enders
Loved the book. Hated the ending. So, they rewrite segments of the book to fit their vision of the ending, or sequels as if the ending never happened.
They earn a lot of hate because of this from Crossers and Worshipers.
Action Addicts
Addicted to action scenes and explosions. They may do better in the movies section, but to be able to write action is no small feat. Anything slow bugs them, though.
And they consider Shippers and Scenery Shippers to be too slow.
Crossers
Fans of taking two works, and crossing them over. They create many awkward situations, and many moments of epic; often they fail, though.
They consider Scenery Shippers and Anti-Enders to be enemies.
Worshipers
Believe that there is nothing wrong, ever, at all, with whichever series they like. To write anything that would contradict or change it would be blasphemy!
Because of this, they despise Anti-Enders and Shippers.
Roles
SpoilerEach writer has some favorite character type, a specific writing style (with minor exception). This is affected, and affects, their skills at handling each other.
Detective (Faction Seer)
Each night, this person is able to discover who belongs to which faction, using advanced reasoning skills, that they have developed by writing similar characters.
They PM the narrator with a target, and they will receive information about ONE of that person's two factions.
Further scries may or may not reveal the same information as is already known.
Journalist (Power Seer)
The writer specializing in journalism, is capable of noticing many details their fellow writers may miss, a skill developed to better portray characters who do the same.
Their night action allows them to select a target, and they will receive information about ONE of that person's two roles.
Scrying the same person more than once is not guaranteed to reveal both their roles.
Proof Reader (Baner)
A Proof Reader's job is to go over a writer's work, checking for grammatically errors and tpos. Catching mistakes before they become official.
And so the proof reader is able to analyze other mistakes, and protect people from their own mistakes, which could otherwise lead to harm.
For their night action, they select a target. If any of the four factions they are not necessarily loyal to attack this person, the night kill fails to harm them. They cannot stop their own faction's kills.
Evil Editor (Traitorous Baner)
The evil editor is hard to tell from a proof reader, and writers will have them check over their work. The difference is, an evil editor will cut out most of their good lines, leaving the work insubstantial, and boring.
They may select one of the factions they belong to each night. That night, that faction's night kill has no effect.
The Evil Editor usually favors one group of people over another.
Publisher (Day Baner)
This guy is capable of churning out many copies of a sample of work within a night, spreading publicity for the author and keeping him from being openly lynched.
He targets a player each night. The next day, no-one may vote for that player (although he's fair game again afterwards).
Suicide Bomber (Beast)
To understand what runs through the minds of those commonly referred to as 'terrorists' during their last moments is impossible. But when you write about them, you come pretty close.
When someone with this passive ability is lynched or night killed, one of those who killed him or her is taken down with them.
Kung-Fu Master (Voider)
To write, you study your material. To write a major Kung-Fu battle, you must study the moves, the style. And you can incapacitate a person.
This writer may target a person, and that night, neither of the target's powers work that night.
Thief
A good heist story is a good story, and the ideas a thief formulates when writing, can be translated fairly well into breaking into less sophisticated things.
They target someone. The next day, that person's goods (whether they be swag, scripts, weapons, whatever) are missing, and the person's vote has no power (although they don't know that).
A vote or two missing where it matters most can actually sway a lynch to someone else.
Gambler
This writer loves characters who love a good bet. And has studied many odds and formulas of probability, and become fairly good at betting himself. Although when the stakes are as high as they have become...
Every two nights (In other words, they cannot use this ability the night after they use it), they can target a player. If that player belongs to a faction the gambler is trying to eliminate, that player dies. If they don't, which is possible, the gambler dies.
Trap Master
A good writer knows how to set up a good security system for their characters to overcome. Or to fail to, it's really up to them. But their knowledge of keeping people away is quite useful.
They may target a player. If the player uses an ability on a member of either of the Trap Master's factions, that person will be unable to use that ability again for three nights.
They cannot target members of their own factions.
Traitorous Trap Master
The best laid trap, is a trap from the inside. A mole, a... well, this writer believes in writing internal strife, and is adept at causing it.
They can target a member of one of their factions. If that person uses an ability on a member of the Traitorous Trap Master's other faction, the target dies (the one the Traitorous Trap Master targeted, not the one his target targeted).
Shapeshifter (Disguiser)
This writer is quite excellent at describing faces, and can fabricate an entire identity instantly. Their good enough that when they have access to makeup, they can go to work on their fellow writers and THEY can hardly tell the difference.
May pick a target, a faction, AND a role. If someone scries that target, they see the role or faction the disguiser picked.
With less than 32 players at the start, the following powers are NOT in play, but could have been.
Dragon
A writer knows how to represent their characters. This writer's characters are powerful, mysterious, maybe a little alien, maybe a little magical. And he gets the point off well. He can represent power in any way he likes.
The Dragon's abilities are passive; his votes count triple, and there is a 25% chance, that like the Suicide Bomber he takes his killer (or one of them) with him.
The Dragon cannot be a member of the Scenery Shippers faction; They are too busy describing the surroundings to describe their characters that well.
Psychic Medium
The Psychic Medium... is really not sure how, but somehow her affinity for mystical stuffs makes it so she can talk to the dead.
Each night, she may target a dead player. She then learns the identity of one of that player's allies, someone on one of his two teams. She does not learn which team, though, or any roles.
The Psychic Medium cannot be a member of the Anti-Enders.
Necromancer
They love puppet-master characters. What a surprise, then, that they can manipulate people. More surprising, it's dead people they can manipulate.
They select a target dead player. That dead player then gets the opportunity to use one of their powers, despite being dead. The target may select which power they use (it must be one they posses), and if the power has a target, which target.
This cannot be used to activate a passive power, or one that works the next day (like the publisher). If they lean anything, the necromancer learns it too. And if they fail to respond, and select a power, it is selected randomly.
The necromancer cannot be a Worshiper.
Sea Serpent
Rolling, twisting action of a snakes muscles... spraying, foamy droplets flung into the air... You are great at enticing people with flowery language, such as those that would attack a friend.
May target a player. If the player dies that night, or during the next day, the Sea Serpent learns the identity of one of the killers, and of both their powers (although not their faction).
Cannot be a member of the Shipper faction. A sea serpent crushes ships, and a shipper has a number of ships.
assassin
To write about a character who slinks in the shadows, who lies in the dark, and disappears in a moments trace, you don't necessarily need to know how to do the same; But such characters are mysterious, and you are excellent at using mystery to slink around unnoticed.
Every two nights, can target a person. That person is poisoned; If the person is targeted by any ability that can learn anything, the owner of that ability learns of the poison, in addition to whatever else they learn. No-one else, not even the victim, is informed of the poison.
The victim dies randomly either the next night, or the night after, rather than the night they were attacked.
The assassin cannot be an Action Addict.
Paladin
Your characters believe that the Law is Everything, that Good must Triumph, and quite frankly, it's rubbed off on you.
Every three nights, they can target someone, smiting down the percieved Evildoer, killing the target outright.
The Paladin cannot be a member of the Crossers. Every series contains some evil, and to join two series is to join two evils to form one greater than the sum of it's parts.

Re: Writer's Block! [WW, Recruiting]
What is the outcome of voider loops?
Say two voiders target each other, or three or more do so in a circular fashion (assuming none are voided by anyone outside the loop).
Is it possible for someone to have two iterations of the same power?
Can baners target themselves?
Oh, and I'll give it a shot.Last edited by TBFProgrammer; 2012-01-28 at 12:23 PM.

Heh, this looks quite amusing. I'm in. Though I do hope I don't end up a Gambler, it's the only role I don't like.

Re: Writer's Block! [WW, Recruiting]
Voider loops: hopefully they shouldn't come up, but it's not unlikely. A voider loop will result in each of those voider's Secondary power having a 50% chance of not working, unless there's an outside voider, too, in which case whoever gets the outside void has a 100% chance of their secondary not working.
No, someone cannot have two iterations of the same power; But they may have similar powers (Like both detective and journalist, or Psychic medium + necromancer).
Yes they can target themselves, as each baner only affects one phase, not the other. If someone is lucky enough to get both day and night, they would effectively be immortal, but the pseudo-RNG would not allow that.
@Ramsus: Don't like the power being able to eliminate itself? Or other reasons?Demilich avatar by Smuchmuch. Thank you VERY much!

Re: Writer's Block! [WW, Recruiting]
Yeah, I just don't want to end up guessing wrong and killing myself. Not saying it's a bad power but, you have a large list of roles and I'd rather not get the one on the list that has a chance of me killing me.

Re: Writer's Block! [WW, Recruiting]
This should be a lot of fun, definitely in.
We find it kind of odd that Crossers wouldn’t like the Scenery people, but meh it’s just a game, right?
Unless RL is like that, then we’d be like. ‘Hey, ya know scenery can be crossed and muddled together just as easily as people from other works/universes can meet each other.’Last edited by usourselves&we; 2012-01-28 at 06:00 PM.

Re: Writer's Block! [WW, Recruiting]
I think I will join.
Though these pairings might cause interesting dynamics:
Shipper and Crosser
Scenery Shipper and Worshiper
Anti-Enders and Action Addicts
This make everyone an enemy unless they are in both factions with you.
Also do the factions get a faction kill each night?

Re: Writer's Block! [WW, Recruiting]
Yes, I have already considered those pairings; And did you realize everyone else will also be trying to kill them?
Yup, each faction gets a night kill. With the Evil Editors, though, only two to four kills should take place the first few nights, depending on whether they pick the same factions. Unless one faction right out chooses to not make a kill.Demilich avatar by Smuchmuch. Thank you VERY much!
