Actually, you need the stone masons to know what they're doing. Otherwise the supervisors going to have to do it all in order to get it right.
However, most of the labourers were unskilled, but there were more than enough skilled stone masons and carpenters on sight. Not to mention the artists and sculptors who did all the finishing touches.

The thing is the stone mason just needs to know how it works, not why, so he doesn't need to be literate, just experienced.

You know, before I left home, my grandmother gave me a little silver bullet, and said, "Son, wear this bullet always in rememberence of me," and I did. Then, close to two months later, I was walking down High Street when a beserk evangelist flung a Bible from the top of a nearby building. That Bible fell 20 stories and struck me in the chest, and friends, I have to tell you, if it weren't for that bullet, the Bible would have killed me on the spot.

Never said they were literate. Just skilled. And their skill is a lot greater than simply placing things in place.
And the architects don't need to know why it works either. Just that it does and always has. It is amazing the accomplishments that can be made without knowing the secrets of the Universe.

    How does that work?

I'm as gay as they come. Though if you talked to me through any means, you wouldn't be able to spot it. Apparently I sound really straight and manly. Hmm, maybe this height (6ft 2") gives me one of those booming deep voices?

And pfft, why hasn't anyone mentioned LaLaSheep?!

It means that AtlanteanTroll feels no need to continually prove that he is straight. Thus, he's straight and can be in the same room as a girl without determining whether or not they're suitable for marriage. As we say in the old speech and you know what I actually mean.

You never know. It could happen. Probably exagerated, but it could still happen. I'm less asking if he actually has some kind of special bullet charm and more asking if a bible was really thrown at him.

Well, I know I've accidentally dropped a Bible off a building before. Hasn't everyone? (I was gesturing with it, and I had recently eaten bacon so my hands were greasy and it slipped. Don't even ask why I was on top of a building at this point.)

Actually, it's not. I see I'll have to explain this one. So my church occasionally has a pancake breakfast/Bible study, and immediately afterwards one of my friends wanted to go BASE jumping. So I went with him to see him do it, but then I had to try and talk him out of it because the building he was going to try to BASE jump off wasn't tall enough for the parachute to slow him down to the point where he wouldn't hurt himself. I still had my Bible with me when I gestured at the ground, and it slipped out of my hands. It didn't land on anyone, though. (and I realize as I say this that if I hadn't been there, I wouldn't believe this story at all).

Well, to be fair, this is the same friend who went streaking to see if he could get away with it, and mooned the bus driver on the school trip to Valley Fair. I just want to know who gave him a BASE jumping parachute.

LaLa, it is a parody of a sort of American anecdote involving a Bible saving one's life from mad shooter's bullet. Mainly found in the more country areas of the US.

    Well.
My fifty-six year old aunt has bought herself a laptop. Rather, I bought it, then she bought it off me.
I did the basic set up a few hours ago, connected her to our internet, set her up an e-mail address - she didn't know what one was! I had to come up with an analogy to explain all the bits of an email address! - and then proceeded to:
uninstall her McAfee and install several different anti-virus/malware things and show her the basics of them
install Firefox ("because I've not used ie in years, so it's easier for me to show you how to use the internet with Firefox.")
    install some add-ons
install Google toolbar because I have a visceral hatred for Bing
showed her this forum to demonstrate how most sites have a lon in/log out procedure
    semi-organised her desktop and
    shown her where DVDs go

Some time this week I have to:
go to hers and set up her internet because she's getting a new deal, show her how to do wireless, how to work the box, how to diagnose/fix internet connectivity problems
show her how to use basic software (and download OpenOffice)
walk her through setting up an amazon account

Anything else important I should teach her about laptops and the internet in general?

Does he work for you too? What kind of suits do you wear?

My own tailor is about 70, and he's very friendly. I only started going to him last summer but we get along splendidly. I think on Saturday, being an unseasonably gorgeous weekend, I caught him at just the right time and mood to be invited in.

Never feel bad for playing Bach because everything IS Bach, there is no escape, every single piece in a minor key comes from his fuges, major keyed come either from his other compositions or his contemporaries. No matter what, a Bach expert will point you to Bach, even in modern pop, metal or jazz, everything is Bach. As my teacher used to say, "the only music I've ever heard that wasn't Bach was Cage's 4'33'' and I think I heard snippets of Bach in it at times". Everyone plays Bach, just a different one in a different way in a different time.
    That I do have.

The game music is in midi, so I'm linking to both the originals as arrangements, the only original where the arrangement is heavily recommended over the original (and perhaps exclusively so) is the last one due to being boss music and somewhat aggressive in its primal form.

I've only had the chance to listen to the first of your links, but I see already its style and its influence on your composition. It is harmonic madness and I like it. I will investigate the others this evening with a drink.

I like that crack about Cage. Do you play any Bach yourself?

*Thanks his lucky stars all his elderly relatives have been using computers longer than he's been alive*

You may want to tell her some sites to stay away from. As I'm sure you know, the internet can be a terrible place sometimes.

I wish I could afford a tailor. Even if I have been told that my good jacket looks like it was tailored for me, it would be nice to have something made exclusively for me.
