I'm unsure how the thread necromancy rules apply here, and some of my older work is embarassing anyway, so I thought I'd start a new thread.

I switched from vector art (in Flash) to raster art (in Paint.NET) a while back, and have recently been doing stuff with a graphics tablet in Photoshop.


First off, because I have no better place to put it, is the first av I made (not suitable for adoption due to being animated).


My other avatars are here, for those of you too lazy to scroll down to my sig. I probably won't be posting any other OotS-style art in this thread.

I have one Iron Avatar award. I think the competition for the Rookie category was fairly light - while I've done better avs since then, I feel a little too intimidated by the skills of some of the other artists around here to try entering with the big boys (you can only enter as a Rookie if you've never entered an IA contest before).

I drew a picture of Jaela Daran, the Keeper of the Silver Flame loli-Pope from the Eberron setting... and then realised that she was supposed to have a "chocolate complexion". I had reasoned that she must spend all day inside, and drawn her with pale skin.

Shading is a little messed up. I tried to make the armour look like it was made out of flametouched iron (and purely ceremonial).

My latest work was a picture of Mori Natsuko, one of horngeek's characters in the BleachITP game.

I had previously done an av of Natsuko (see the link above), and when I heard he was looking for a full-body pic I offered my help.

Looking at one's old works shows improvement over time. Most of my sketch looks like what you say.

If you want to... It depends on the type. It could be simple or more complex... For example, I did this art trade once. I would be happy to draw one of your characters.
You have a lot of drawings of other people's characters, but I haven't seen one of yours yet I think.

That is a limitation of my abilities. It's not intentional.

My laptop is black and silver, with one of those Wi-fi indicator lights that switches from blue to orange. The top is black with a small HP logo in the centre, hence the hairclip.

Since you know that your characters are usually too fat, and now I know that it isn't a personal preference/fetish or something, why don't you try to make their limbs and torso thinner? Since, you actually know your so-called failings, unlike most people? Cause, you know, your drawing isn't actually half bad?

I'm working towards that in increments. Paint.NET + touchpad aren't really the best tools to be using, but I end up doing so out of convenience, even if it takes me a few attempts to draw a curved line. I have Photoshop and a Bamboo, but not on my laptop.

nono, I don't think the problem is in the lines or something that's caused by the tools or the lack of it. It's simply the proportion, am I wrong? Thick proportion is thick proportion whether you draw it with pencil, paint, or photoshop.
