Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
I, too, have a hybrid nature -- up early to work in the garden, up late to walk on the river under a full moon. But to be honest, I've found the morning to be the most creative and philosophical time for me. I get my best creative work done between about 7 and 11 am.
That's quite fortunate and reciprocal.
I would say there are indeed recordings, but they are not exactly me playing piano so much as going over compositions seeing as what I play diverts moderately from what I upload. Whilst I do like to play what I write, if only to prevent myself from flagellating my pride; what I love to play is mainly Touhou which I'm doubtful would be an earful to you and Billy Joel with some Jazz and Bossa in between and heavily influencing how I play both of the before mentioned. I've been wanting to upload some of the last, but I'm having trouble even finishing to record all of which I have already written down which is partially one of my short term projects I'd like to see accomplished before the end of the year.
But, if you would like to hear my musical production rather than my piano playing:
I have been turning over and over in my mind lately why it is that I play the piano. Do I want to merely keep echoing the old masters like a fawning child for the rest of my life? Isn't the purpose of studying the old masters, like a painter, to drive towards producing music of one's own? But I just have no idea how to approach composition, and the course of my life has taken me far beyond a chance for formal training in that respect.
But, that being said, I think it's great that you are so deeply submerged in music. It is one of the greatest traditions to me.
What is Touhou, by the way? The best my heuristics could turn up was the Toho music academy in Japan.
I just can't appreciate that style, myself. - probably in part because it's a style for small-legged boys well below the age range of my attraction. And I think it makes the male body look a little silly. I'm sorry. *hugs*
Now on the other hand, those short shorts cut well above the knee that showed up this summer... rawr.
Many of us wear clothes inside the house, too.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Depends in what you consider post-game for each. But I may have overlooked that generation jump... Diamond DOES have more postgame content than Gold though.
SHIPS AHOY!!
There are many other ways to go formal, not necesary suit but certain types of coats do go into formal territory while still being casual.
You forgot weaponized for all of the messodes out there.
Nonsense! Shipping is all about ignoring the evidence and creating it.
At those hour the most my mind can muster is not falling asleep while driving through the sea line and preventing myself from forming a pool over my notebooks while bemusedly listening to lectures on physics or chemestry or calculus imparted by professors which while actually rather good are not a cup of morning tea.
That's a flaw of my composing rather than a perk, the over saturation is no good, even Rococo composers could shy away from such overcharging that results from my overly embelished harmonics over simple progressions.
If by echoing the old masters you mean the playing of already written music then I'd have to digress over it being merely an echoing. Each player has a distinct style that goes off from whatever they are playing at the time, Rhapsody in Blue from Valdez is going to be different from Gershwin's playing or mine, or anyone's. Each pianist has a number of personal quirks developed either by skill or by flaw that makes their playing unique, even when referring to going over already done motions.
Even in orchestral music where one is asked to follow through there will be a different on how each emphasises each note or transition, if one expands a note to an octave, or if one adds a note to the interval to create tension or simply does a lead through.
Even motions which are seemingly universal like the glissando are heavily differentiated between players. I for once favour the octave + 5th glissando which produces cuts in my hands if only because of the sound it makes and the joy of the dynamics involved. Others who also favour this type may do it more or less dynamically, with different stop and start points for a given harmony and with a different uniformity in the descent, or even use of pedals during it, be it the Una Corda, the Sostenuto or the proper sustaining.
So I believe playing the already composed music is not fawning like a child but making it your own, imprinting it with what makes your playing special. A way to express yourself throughout a known melody so the listener can find you in something it already knows.
I would have to say that studying the old masters is a path by itself. Studying them can lead to many ways, to the way of musical creation in composition, expression inside them as I've said, or sometimes to divert and rearrange them into something fully personal, other's just want the feeling of gliding over, of simply being able to play something, it sounding well to the ear just a bonus.
As for approaching composition I can't recommend any given path due to the way I ended up learning, mainly through the time tested way of starting from harmony and working over to melody on a conservatory. The only wisdom I have in regards to it is not to think so much as composing as playing something new and then writing it down and then trying to work around what you already have.
In my case it also doubles as partially a family tradition.

Oh look, they've started shipping me again. I'm surprised it took this long.
Altohugh I must say one thing any LaLaxMe shipping has to be Mooniac. Because I'm pretty sure we're both insane.
I'm not in a relationship! I've never even gotten as far as being rejected yet! Also, while I am not for HalfMoon, I don't see the problem between our personalities. We'd both go and hide from the world together. I'm sure there's internet in bunkers.

This long? People never stop shipping, new victims are just hard to come across.
Insane is not the proper term, more like chaos inducing aura.
Evidence to BunkerKat Shipping. Considering the amount of evidence to the contrary this is likely a misguiding lie similar to the age debate.

Yes, but no one really had begun preying on me yet.
Mm. ^.^
No! I'm not in a relationship. I have reasons for every single thing you consider evidence!
Wait, what do you consider evidence? And I never lie about anything regarding my normal life, the only time I ever do misguiding lies is when I'm outright saying my age!

At least nothing will beat BlueCat's double marriage proposals.Every single post regarding bunker boy and given declarations in regards to him... and I have informants.
Not everyone explores bunkers alongside you though.
Saying this is just asking to be shipped, which may have been your objective all along.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
This is all hilarious.
In other news, I sweeped half of Champion Wallace's team in Emerald. Long story short, I decided to play Emerald again, using pokemon I've never used before. Of those, I used Tropius.
Turns out, Tropius can tank 5 hyper beams. And after that it's just all surfs from that scaaary Gyarados. Solar beams every time all the time. I already liked Tropius, since it's a braciousaurus that flies like a helicopter, but now I legitimately respect it.
