It's probably something like the issue of time.
Also, I do think he prepares the plot in advance, but coming up with jokes and making the comic takes time.

Yes, I think he wrote that he has most of the story arcs figured out, enough to last a long long time. Jeez, people, be patient. It's an awesome comic: don't make him lower the quality, just to be on time.

    Can't wait!

I realize that each comic represents a great investment of time, but The Order of the Stick is his job, so devoting time to it is expected. Actually creating the strips themselves is a small part of what he does, but it's also the most important part. All I'm saying is that if he worked ahead two or three strips he would save himself a lot of grief and still make his deadlines to boot. I understand this to be a standard practice for most cartoonists, who have a lot more riding on their deadlines than Mr. Burlew does.

Oh snap we get to flog this particular dead horse again. Now don't get me wrong I can certainly see both sides of this and I certainly understand both points of view (the all-mighty knows how many times we have seen this crop up usually though it takes longer than a couple hours). I even share the frustration of having to wait, and am probably up later than I should be waiting for the goodness that is to come.

Let me prognosticate as to what will now happen in this very thread until the new comic gets posted.

The lines will be drawn there will be three camps camp 1 will be "he owes us this is how he makes his living" camp 2 will be "he makes his money off of what he does for the spooky wizard and merchandise both online and at conventions. Besides it's a free comic no one is making you wait you don't like it go to greener pastures" camp 3 will be the more neutral/tired folks who saw this coming and might politely ask both sides to calm down. There may be a 4th camp of moderators and the giant himself.

carry on. I've seen this fight before.

Frankly I see it like this. Since he doesn't charge us to view the comic it is ok if he is late, hell its ok if he stopped alltogether, though I would be saddened by that event. For you see, I love paladins, but Belkar is just too damn awesome, and I wish him his revenge on Windstriker.

So you're of the opinion that Burlew doesn't change things here and there every couple of strips? I would bet good money that the Giant's work is heavily influenced by what he reads on this very forum. So, it might be harder to plan out several strips at a time, because if he changes one, he might have to change several more after that, no?

What sort of perverse logic tells people that commenting on a thread such as this will actually accomplish anything? Either Rich wastes time reading the stuff hereon and, heartened by it, works faster, or he keeps working at the same pace that he normally works at, and finishes the comic. Either way, the comic gets posted about the same time.

Perhaps he will work faster, perhaps not. Either way, it is pointless to kill the server refreshing until the comic pops up. Patience is a virtue. And I sincerely doubt that Mr Burlew could work anymore in advace than ha already does. Creative processes tend to take alot out of people, and since the only way to get ahead would be creativity, getting ahead would leave him more burned out than usual about OotS, thus precipitating an increase in the time between work sessions. I calculate the the increase would be proportional to the amount he got ahead, thus getting ahead 1 week would cause him to not want to work for a week. As such would probably hurt the quality of his work (have you ever tried to spend 6 hours writing a book) he would go back to the working maybe a day in advance method of doing things he is now.
