This is horrifying and awesome. I think things just got a lot worse for our heroes.

    ...Turn Undead?

EDIT- And I just noticed the punchline. It may have taken several hundred strips, but I'm finally a fan of that Imp.

i dont see how a few zombies is gonna make much of a difference in the battle

wonder how Quarr will use his new found knowledge

Malacks and Tarquins conversation points towards Malack being neutral too since Necromancy is generally considered the msot evil of magic and Malack is agaisnt it

though since he serves a god of death maybe its more him respecting the sanctity of the dead...?

Ahh, Quar is great. At first, I didn't like him. Mostly cuz Therkla was awesome. But I can see his appeal.

    Also, Malack is awesome.
Can only thank GitP for being so good for so long.

Well, at least Quar gets the connection.

Of course, the question remains, what is Tarquin's plan?

    Shock factor, mostly.

Also, I think that comma in Kilkil's speech bubble is extra. The way it stands, Kilkil is referring to Nale as " 'honey' ", but the rest of the sentence doesn't make sense like that.

So Malack's against "that sort of thing" but not completely against creating undead. Interesting. Also interesting that Nale wants Kilkil near Tarquin. I wonder why.

And I really like the last 3 panels. All in all, good strip.

Darn - I've been expecting undead Draketeeth at some point, but I was sure that it would either be some kind of defense of the temple or Xykon responsible.

They won't be much of a threat, but they could easily get the Order to waste some resources.

Been a while since I've been browsing the forums and a new OOTS has been posted...thoughts after the read-through.

Edit: CoffeeIncluded, my thoughts exactly...I suspect we'll see some ramble toward wherever the gate actually is. Those zombies are stupid-creepy the way they talk.

And I think Sabine is buttering up Nale WAY too much...first the "betrayal of the IFCC" during the fight at the Empire of Blood, and now she's stroking his ego in ways only a Succubus can do.

So resurrection is against Nergal's ideals but undeath isn't? Because the distinction between the two has been quite the discussion point in the past.

And I like how the LG is going to find out about Familicide before the Order does. Especially when Tarquin realizes that V inadvertently killed Penelope...

If Nale had any sense of genre savvy, he'd be more worried. But then, if he had Genre Savvy, he'd be far more successful. Zombies are always useful to have; would they have the capabilities they had when alive? I can't remember. Quarr will probably tell the OOTS about V's Familicide, though it's up in the air whether they'd believe him or not.

Yes, but their value is not as combat units but as screens and setters-off-of-traps. The Order can't afford to get swamped by undead mooks and must uncloak to fight them, defeating them easily but exposing themselves to return fire.

Well, whether they would be a threat against the order or not, imagine the psychological trauma for V if s/he finds them. Also, this updated right before I was about to go to sleep for the night. Excellent!

Apparently Nergal does dislike the undead, but not enough to forbid his cleric from creating them.

What Nale is apparently not considering at all is that if Malack decides, for any reason, that it's time for him, Nale, to die, he'll be facing not only Malack but a legion of mummies as well.

(And if anyone wants to say that mummies are too low-CR to be any threat to Nale, Tsukiko wants a word with that person.)

    Regarding Malack's alignment
You know, neither gods of Death nor their clerics are necesarily evil. That's a common misconception. If anything, neutrality suits them better.
Add to that the fact that he really loved his family, and that he respects Durkon for real plus the new information that he is usually against creating undead, and you can safely asume he is True Neutral or Lawful Neutral.

Doubt it. He basically just did and nobody was paying any attention. And V isn't even likely to be there at the moment of confrontation. Tarquin figuring out how his wife died is possible though.

Well, it seems like Malack is kind of against creating undead as well. But in this case he was presented with an entire room full of corpses so there was a sense of it being a sign from his god that he should do it at this point. Also, creating undead doesn't restore the soul the way that resurrection does, so he's not really denying his god in the same manner.

So yeah, this would be an especially rare resource that Malack almost surely felt was a sign from Nergal.

I'm pretty sure they're not zombies - they still have X's for eyes where conventional OOTS zombies don't, and all zombies ever say is "brains", not anything like the creepy mumbling these guys are doing.

I suppose they could be some other type of undead we haven't seen before, but my guess is that if they're called mummies, they're probably mummies. We've been overdue some this arc anyway.

    Thoughts:

Huh. Well. That's probably not good. It may not be all that bad, but it certainly isn't good.

I'm actually really interested in Malack's theology.

I have now finally found something about Qarr to like.

Also, I believe we now have a new minimum level for Malack.
