Default Rise of the Green Sun Princes! (Another Exalted Log)

Welcome to the first session of my latest Exalted game! Ever since I learned Infernals were even a thing, I was a little interested in them. As such, I suppose I'm not too surprised to find myself running a game in which they take the spotlight. But enough with that, let's start things off right...

Beyond the secret edges of Creation can be found a desert of seemingly-endless length. Only after five whole days of journeying through bleak and inhospitable terrain can any hope of survival appear. In this case, it is a vast, alien city, inverted on itself, and outright frantic with activity. Above, yet also inside the city, burns a brilliant green sun.

    Welcome to the Demon City.

First, let's introduce the PCs, shall we?

    Cast
    Spoiler
    Show
    Gene, the Wishmaster

Gene is a Fiend Caste, though he favors Cecelyne quite heavily. He's very much a social-type, though somewhat inept at combat itself. His Motivation is to become the Despot of Gem, and his Urge is to utilize the resources of Gem to the Yozi cause. He has a tomescu familiar named Stipa, and a fondness for ambition, both in himself and others.

    Abbadon, the Reaver

Abbadon is a Slayer Caste, favoring Cecelyne. He's mostly just a very tough melee combatant, though it's interesting to see where he'll go from there... his Motivation is to have his revenge on the Bull of the North, and his Urge is to do away with the Bull's armies. He also really wants to find his wife, having lost contact with her after his Exaltation.

    Hissori Yuki, Silent Assassin

Yuki is a Scourge Caste, favoring the Ebon Dragon. Her Motivation is to establish an order of assassins in Adorjan's name, and her Urge is to erode the magic of the Holy Road that leads to the city of Whitewall. In combat, she attacks invisibly with a space-warping needle, which she enhances with both poison and her Life-Blighting Emptiness Attack.

Ormagöden, the Demon Prince of Song

Ormagöden is a Slayer Caste, favoring Cecelyne. He's a mix of combatant and socialite, and has artifacts that assist him in both; he has a tainted orichalcum grimcleaver for the first, and an enchanted lute for the second. He also possesses a hauberk of bells. His Motivation is to spread the songs of the Yozis to Creation; his Urge is to destroy the current rulership of Gem.

Natsu, Acolyte of Desert and Wind

Natsu is a Malefactor, with Adorjan favored. He dual-wields paired slayer khatars in combat. Despite his bravery and combat skill, he's also very compassionate, and a pretty sharpish dancer as well. His Urge is to bring the silence of Adorjan to the kingdom of Gray Falls, and his Motivation is to take his revenge on both Gray Falls and Ma-Ha-Suchi.

    Noric, the World-Shaper

A bit of a late-comer to the game, Noric is a Defiler, with Cecelyne favored. His Motivation is to avenge himself on his rival for stealing his glory; his Urge is to perfect Creation by removing the taint of the Wyld from it. Amongst his repertoire include the powers of telekinesis, and the ability to shape the realms of Malfeas and the Wyld.

    Prelude: Gene

Gene wasn't born into Gem's nobility - years of toil and labor are what allowed him to get a chance, one shot at obtaining a minor position of nobility. His aspirations led him to the deal of his life - were it successful, he could count himself among the elite! The deal was to be made in the desert outside Gem - after all, these sorts of arrangements are done best away from prying eyes.

Unfortunately, Gene did not expect a double-cross, did not expect to be insulted by a petulant noble for attempting to rise above his station, did not expect to have his legs hacked at with a scimitar, before being left to die in the pitiless desert. As he lay there, suffering under the sun, relief was brought to him by a strange fog.

"We, too, have been brought to ruin for our work," a voice said to him, "unjustly usurped from our rightful position by those who sought what was ours. We can give you the power to attain a higher station than you'd ever imagined, if you will but aid us, we who cannot act. Not just a noble, but a prince..."

As Gene accepts the deal, the demonic mist crystallizes around him, forming a protective chrysalis for the next five days. Gene emerges from the mist intact, though small trails of smoke now follow behind him as he treks into the desert...

After another five days, he comes to the tarnished brass towers of the Demon City, only to see the viridian sun itself eclipsed by a massive dragon of shadows. Gene is welcomed by this titanic figure, and led into the city. He is led to the Conventicle Malfeasant.

    Prelude: Abbadon

Abbadon had earned much status amongst his barbarian tribe. When the icewalkers began to band together under the banner of a powerful god-king known as Yurgen Kaneko, "the Bull of the North," Abbadon's tribe gave the Bull's attempts at unification a gentle refusal. However, before long, Abbadon had become chief of his tribe, and decided to lead his people to join the battles against the Bull. However, his most able-bodied warriors were crushed by the Bull's might, leaving Abbadon alone with his defeat.

It was that evening that a hirsute, crimson simian confronted him, not with violence, but with an offer... an offer of power, an offer to take the vengeance he so clearly deserved... Abbadon took the deal, and five days later, he began his journey into the Endless Desert. The demonic blood-apes were all-too-eager to greet him at the gates of the Demon City, gifting him with a tainted grand daiklave ripped from the hands of a Vizier before his execution and reforged by the fires of the green sun himself, re-christened as the "Retributive Blade of the Reaver."

However, he had a little further to go, still - Abbadon was then brought to the Conventicle Malfeasant.

    Prelude: Yuki

A simple Shanari girl, Yuki was married off to a God-Blooded husband from Whitewall when she came of age, settling with her new husband in a small village. However, not long into their marriage, he proved to be abusive and uncaring. For no apparent reason, he would viciously beat her and tell her how he hated her voice. She lacked the power to stand up to her abusive husband, and finally ran into the northern cold.

At the shore of a frozen lake, she saw a sinuous, finned woman circling just above the ice. "I can help you, if you would but leave this life behind," she murmurs in liquid, musical tones. Yuki agreed, and became like a silent wind herself, returning to devastate not just the husband that beat her, but the village that tolerated it. The inhabitants were found dead, and one individual with his mouth sewn shut.

However, her demonic advisor suggested that there was more to do. Whitewall must also suffer... but first, she must be introduced to her brothers and sisters. Yuki ran, and ran, until she saw the Demon City, saw a majestic prince standing atop a tower beckoning to her. He was Jacint, and he would build a road to the Conventicle Malfeasant for her to walk upon.

    Prelude: Ormagöden

Ormagöden was an entertainer, one of the most skilled in Gem. Flaming red hair and bright orange eyes adorned his fair face, and many loved his musical talents. However, one day he was jumped by a gang of bandits, unimpressed with his fame. Despite the fact that he also fancied himself a duelist, he was severely wounded by the bandits, though he managed to escape their notice for a moment and crawl away. On the brink of unconciousness, he heard a voice. "You can sing your song forevermore, if you but change some of the lyrics. Tell all of Creation of the glory of the Yozis, and you will have power." This voice came from a violet-skinned courtesan, both beautiful and terrible.

Ormagöden acquiesed to the deal, and for five days, saw visions of himself in the Demon City, worshipped and adulated, given grand gifts, and performing even more glorious music than he'd ever managed. When he emerged from his visions, he was actually already at an entrance to the Endless Desert, and his coadjutor urged him forward.

Finally, he reaches the Demon City, greeted by a cluster of screaming fans. Literally dozens of beautiful demonic courtesans, each more seductive than the last, flock to him, desperate to even touch him. A chest is brought to him, containing an orichalcum grimcleaver, an artifact lute to replace his mortal possession, and armor fashioned with elaborate golden bells.

He is "escorted" by his horde of neomah to the Conventicle Malfeasant, and urged that should he ever be in the city again, that he visit them...

    Prelude: Natsu

Natsu was an acolyte in the Immaculate Temple of Gray Falls, naturally adept at both the fighting arts and music. Cathak Akihiro, his sifu, was critical of the current satrap of Gray Falls, as were a number of his students. One day, it was suggested that Akihiro and his students would travel to another area to spread the word of the Immaculate Faith, which he was all-too-eager to do. However this small group was cut down by a chance encounter with a roving band of Ma-Ha-Suchi's beastmen, leaving only Natsu alive.

Realizing that it may well have been a maneuver by the satrap to rid himself of a political enemy, Natsu fell into despair, only to see what appeared to be a column of silver fire within the nearby mists. "Surely you would help us, we who were also betrayed?" said a voice from the fire. "The benevolent masters of Creation will help you take your revenge."

Natsu acquiesced, only to be enveloped in the silver fire for five days straight, and finally emerged to wander into the Endless Desert. When he reached the great city of bronze, he saw a priest with robes of black, hands of black bone, and a face of azure fire, standing ready to greet him, and take him to the Conventicle Malfeasant.

    The Conventicle Malfeasant...

What is the Conventicle Malfeasant, you ask? Imagine a convention center; now, make it the size of a city. Good, good, getting closer. However, give it a more organic structure, more of a mound-shaped tumor of tarnished brass and jagged black bones, above which a twisted, exposed nerve dangles and sways under the light of the emerald star. A single door can be found in this massive structure, through which one may realize that the inside is even larger. A ring of fifty palatial townhouses reside within, alongside gaming parlors, brothels, teahouses, temples, theaters, and even a great glass library, and at the very center, a strange sort of amphitheater.

Of course, each of the recently-Exalted is entitled to one of the townhouses, but right now, there's a meeting to attend...

Within the amphitheater, with its risers of black bone and its floor of jade-colored sand, the new arrivals are introduced one by one to the assembled congregation, which seems to be equal numbers human and demon.

Abbadon's vendetta against the Bull of the North catches the attention of one of the other Green Sun Princes present, a powerfully-built fellow named Cearr, who seems very eager to support Abbadon's efforts against him. Gene, Natsu, Yuki, and Ormagöden likewise throw in their lot with this mission, though both Gene and Ormagöden are intrigued to learn that the other has business in Gem...

    Against the Bull, Linowan...

Cearr and Abbadon, with their experience with both strategy in general and the Bull of the North in particular, decide that the best way to go about it would be to rally a number of different peoples against Yurgen Kaneko. The group travels to Creation with their first target in mind, an eastern confederation known as the Linowan.

The Linowan, see, had already had a pyrrhic battle with the Bull of the North, and though their leader did not want her people to be wielded as a weapon against him, the group was able to convince her that if they but had the support of her people, they could ensure that the Bull would no longer trouble the Linowan. As a sign of good faith, they even volunteered for a raid against the Linowan's hated enemies, the tree-dwelling Haltans.

Naturally, however, things weren't that simple. The Haltans have built an empire in the eastern forests of Creation, all of it six feet off the ground. Below them reside the enigmatic, soul-devouring raksha, with whom a curious pact has been forged. Believe it or not, Gene pays the raksha a visit, brokering a deal with them as well, such that just a little ground be gained by the Linowan raiders without the raksha cutting them down where they stand.

After their "victory," the coven returns to the Linowan queen, eager for her to pledge the Linowan's assistance. She relucantly agrees to the deal.

Following that, they decided that Cearr, Natsu, and Ormagöden would remain behind in the Linowan territory, while Gene, Abbadon, and Yuki would speak with the Haltans to determine their relationship with the Bull...

Ormagöden, deciding to further his desires to spread the song of the Yozis, spends some time cultivating a few demon-cults amongst the Linowan.

    Against the Bull, Halta...

The plan for Halta is simple enough: the group does their best to influence the Haltans into not aiding the Bull of the North. Gene, Abbadon, and Yuki all get to play their parts - Yuki murders an influential young department head who is vocal about allying with the Bull, and Gene and Abbadon attempt to convince the queen, who is actually quite interested in making allies that aren't soul-devouring horrors or divinely-empowered warlords.

That's when Gene discovers that the Haltans are not all that they seem - the queen's God-Blooded husband is actually an Exalt himself, and while perceptive enough to discern that Gene is an Exalt, does not understand Gene's goals in the region. Nonetheless, Gene manages to hammer out a rough agreement between himself and this mysterious being, such that if the Bull of the North should come to them for aid, he will do his best to influence the Haltans against it.

Following that, he returns to Halta with Yuki and Abbadon to explain the situation to Ormagöden and Cearr, and that's where we called it a night.

Maaaybe. Has both a magic grimcleaver and an artifact lute... And yes, he pronounces the Heävy Mëtal Ümlauts.

Gem is less a city and more "one of the greatest economic forces in the entire South." It's built into a vast, extinct volcano, and is the primary source of (as the name would suggest) gemstones. Gem also has one of the largest supplies of firedust in Creation (firedust being a black powder with explosive, fiery properties).

Some say that Gem has a bad fate in store for it. We'll see soon enough.

Gem has about five powerful factions that want to either loot and pillage, invade, or simply destroy it. IIRC, all these factions have one type of Exalt or another to call on.

Presumably, there's one very stressed Siddie running around desperately juggling all of these factions, trying to make sure that Gem gets the Fate it's supposed to get. The Exalts probably make that job a lot harder.

Actually there is several indicators throughout the book that it's Fate is to be blown up. Makes sense too since most of the factions trying to blow it up are inside Fate not Outside it. Also I only count three including the no longer canonical Ot*.

*To clarify Ot is canonically still a place it just no longer has any connection to Gem. That's all 1st Edition stuff that didn't get carried over.

My count makes it three as of Second Edition:

1: The Deathlord known as the First and Forsaken Lion, who wants to turn it into a strategically located shadowland large enough to bring his army out of the Underworld.

2: The Autochthonians, assuming the Locust Crusade happens.

3: Paragon, because their long-running trade war with each other is about to lose the "trade" part.

Never heard of Ot before, but that's probably because I don't have any First Edition materials.

Ot is the Alchemical City that broke through the Seal in the Locust Crusade I believe. I also don't have any First Edition material so I can't be certain. It is however mentioned in the Compass of Celestial Directions: Autochthonia. Also even if the Alchemicals break the Seal it is now canonical that they end up wherever the hell you the ST want. So even if the Locust Crusade happens they don't necessarily want to blow up Gem. Also you can't count the Autochthonians as one faction there are at least ten factions within Autochthonia that could each rival the superpowers of the setting. The Tunnel Folk don't count because well they aren't a unified faction and even if they were they couldn't rival the superpowers.

At least in 1st edition, I believe one possible route for the next Fair Folk invasion takes them right through Gem, as well.

(I'm amused that someone took the description of the Infernals as the "Rockstars of Hell" so literally. This should be an interesting game.)

Yes, yes, Gem was utterly doomed back in 1e. Like I said, we'll see if it proves to be as doomed in our game.

Sounds good so far, i often seem to get lost in Exaulted journals tho.
Aside from "have fun", i think the key to GMing is putting your players into situations where they need to make a choice that has no perfect outcome available. They will hate you for it, but they will be back at the table session after session.

    Okay, let's continue, shall we?

"Hold on a second TheCountAlucard, you crafty storyteller," you say, "don't you normally play on Saturdays?"

This is true; however, due to some stuff he'll be doing, Gene's player wouldn't be able to attend a game this Saturday, so rather than simply skipping a session, we decided to play a little early, with him phoning it in via Skype. He was even nice enough to buy a webcam, so that we would be graced with his friendly, devious face.

    Anyway, on with the story!

When last we'd left our cunning warlocks, they'd reunited in Linowan territory. Strangely, however, Natsu is not to be seen; it seems he's disappeared... It's shortly after that when the group receives a message from the Demon City; essentially, that a new Green Sun Prince has been chosen, and that while their attendance is not mandatory, they can show up for it if they so choose. Gene convinces the others (save Cearr) to go; after all, this new Green Sun Prince may well prove to be a worthwhile ally.

    Back to the Demon City...

They return, crossing the Endless Desert in five days' time to once again stand before the vast metropolis of the Demon City. However, none of them are familiar with this area of the city. They decide to see about acquiring some mounts, and obtain a number of agatae in exchange for a canteen of water that Abbadon had brought along with him.

From there, the warlocks fly their way to the Conventicle Malfeasant, inviting their demon-wasp steeds in with them. Once there, they take a brief respite in their townhouses while contemplating what to do next.

Abbadon wishes to make a progress report with Malfeas, and thus begins inquiring as to where Malfeas might be found. He also wants to personally thank Ligier (the green sun of the Demon City) for forging his equipment. Gene and Yuki decide to pay a visit to the glass library erected within the Conventicle Malfeasant, and Ormagöden puts on a show for the demonic servants in his townhouse.

Abbadon first makes his inquiry at a temple of Cecelyne (run by black-robed priests with faces of azure fire), and they inform him that Malfeas is cavorting about within his own streets. Abbadon eventually finds the Brass Dancer, and bows before the King of the Primordials. Malfeas brazenly accepts his submission, and allows Abbadon to tell him of his progress.

Meanwhile, Gene and Yuki are reading in the library, erected by the End of All Wisdom, and learn a few interesting things while they're there; among other things, they come to realize that while the demons in the city are expected to follow the laws of the Endless Desert, Green Sun Princes such as themselves are under no obligation to do so. So while things like possessing water and looking at the color azure are illegal, the circle is free to do either at their leisure. Gene also learns of the possibility of magic keys that could magically transport people from Creation to the Demon City.

Ormagöden, of course, rocks some faces.

    New Guy in Town...

Following that, they head to the amphitheater to observe the new Green Sun Prince, a green-haired man known as the Orchid-Consuming Guardian. His purpose will be to police the Conventicle Malfeasant, and see to it that the rules and purpose of it are not subverted by punishing would-be transgressors. Deciding that he would be of little use to them in their current efforts, the circle nonetheless welcomes him before continuing about their business...

    Fetch Quest, Part One...

Abbadon goes to Ligier at his forge, with Ligier appearing as a four-armed man with the radiance of the very star above them. Ligier appreciates Abbadon's praise, and when Abbadon discusses the idea of improving the sword he'd forged, Ligier gives an approving smile. He works out with Abbadon a potential improvement to the sword, allowing him to project a brilliant burst of the very light of Ligier, but in order to rework this artifact, Ligier would need a number of esoteric ingredients with which to work.

"The first, of course, would be the daiklave itself. It would need to be reforged with my own flames, stoked on the bones of an elder Dragon-Blooded. I would need to smelt in metals from an intact tree from the Silver Forest, as well as the soul of an Adamant sorcerer, and then quench it all in blood from the westernmost reaches of the Underworld," Ligier muses.

So, yeah, not easy to get.

Gene experiences a somewhat-similar experience in his quest to get a magic key: he meets with Alveua, Keeper of the Forge of Night, a demonic smith who could create the key, with the right ingredients. However, Gene seems to decide that for now, it's not worth it, and meets back up with the others.

    Fetch Quest, Part Two...

Abbadon asks the others if they will travel to the Silver Forest with him, to seek out said ingredient. They travel through the Demon City until they see a truly-massive forest, all composed of interlacing, silvery trees whose roots stretch into the sky. They search the forest for someone with whom they may speak, since they'd been warned that the Yozi known as Szoreny might not take kindly to having part of his body uprooted.

Within the vast forest, Gene, Abbadon, Yuki, and Ormagöden constantly find themselves reflected: on the surfaces of the metallic trees, in the open pools of quicksilver, and even just mad phantasms that flit across their peripheral visions for a half-second, and each and every reflection is subtly wrong.

The group gets briefly distracted, however, when a number of the trees just race in their direction, as though a violent storm had simply tossed them aside - such a comparison is not far from the truth, for they see the trees have been pushed by a vast black boar, stalking through the forest with the strength of a titan, uncaring of what he crushes underhoof or knocks carelessly aside. It takes a powerful performance of Ormagöden's best songs before this boundless colossus even notices them. This monster turns his star ruby eyes on the circle of warlocks, and introduces himself as Isidoros, the Black Boar that Twists the Skies. When they explain that they are here to speak to Szoreny, the group is surprised to have Szoreny make himself manifest to speak with them.

Szoreny, it seems, is less-than eager to part with a piece of himself for nothing. As a hoarder of trinkets and reflections, he demands that in exchange for the tree they want, that they provide him with a number of mortals from Creation, such that he may have more things to reflect. The group agrees to the deal, thanking the two Yozis for their time, and depart.

Against the Bull, Time for Tear-Eaters...

Now to go back to Creation! They once again trek across the Endless Desert, finding their way back to the Linowan and Cearr. For now, their plan is to head northwest and convince the vicious Tear-Eater barbarians (of which they know very little) to fight against the Bull of the North.

However, this time their journey is easier, because they have demon wasps.

They reach Tear-Eater territory, and come across a minor warband. After trashing some guards who refused to let him see their chief, Abbadon attempts to sway the barbarian leader. However, the chief turns him down, on the basis that they would first need the approval of their goddess, "She Who Must Be Obeyed."

The warlocks are invited to wait while an emissary comes to meet them. They meet with a pale-faced shadowy figure coming in from the night with a black cloak, black horse, and black saddle. He calls himself the Paladin of Nephwracks, and for some reason, they don't trust him. Seeing how they don't have any other options, however, they agree to be escorted to neutral ground, where they might discuss the issue with She Who Must Be Obeyed. He surprises them by placing a mirror on the ground and dramatically intoning dark words of power, casting a necromantic spell that turns the mirror into a portal to the Underworld. The Exalts reluctantly travel there, where they meet with a beautiful woman sitting on an opulant throne made from the grasping dead hand of some long-slain giant.

Gene is the main one doing the discussing, since the others are pretending to not speak Old Realm. This strange, alluring woman proves to be a master manipulator, and when Gene asks that she allow the circle to deploy her barbarians against the Bull, she cunningly-convinces him to give them details about themselves.

The fact that refusing her causes Gene to bleed doesn't help.

Gene reluctantly reveals to her that they are indeed Exalts, and after some further prodding, admits that one of them has a specific vendetta against Yurgen Kaneko.

"My little princeling," she says, "I would permit you to lead the Tear-Eaters against the Bull of the North, but in return, I want something more than the swatted fly you offer me. I want you to spend time with the survivors, and convert them to the ways of ancestor-worship." Gene briefly goes over this with the others, and they agree to the terms, on the condition that she keep the circle's nature a secret. "It's a pity we can't get an Eclipse to bind our agreement," she then says, amused. Gene reluctantly decides to reveal that, as one of the Chosen of the Ebon Dragon, he can bind this agreement.

This necromantic femme fatale and Gene bind their agreement with the power of the twisted Exaltation within him, such that disaster would fall on the one of them that breaks this agreement.

Following that, the Paladin of Nephwracks transports them back into Creation, taking them back to the Tear-Eaters so that they might take command. Abbadon announced that he would travel back to the homelands of his tribe, to rally them against the Bull as well... and to see if his wife still lived. Gene, on the other hand, said that he would go south, to the lands ran by the Bull himself, and that's where we called it a night.

Nice, so how long do you think it will take for Abbadon to gather the ingredients for his weapon upgrade? Also i'm assuming that the Tear-Eater barbarians are another Brutal Legend reference

Depends on his drive to attain them. Technically, he's already got two (his daiklave, and Ligier's fire). Chances are that the rest are going to be hard for him to get, but then again, if grabbing these things were a cakewalk, it wouldn't be nearly as fun when he is tossing around miniature nuclear explosions, now would it?

Kinda reminds me of the "one red paperclip" story, myself.

    Nope, not in this case.

Thumbs up Re: Rise of the Green Sun Princes! (Another Exalted Log)

Bought the Infernal book recently, so this is a very interesting read.
Especially the part where theu played a rock concert for Isidoros. Were many "devil horns" thrown in the air that day?
I would love to hear more about the adventures of hell's rockstars.
Also, how are the PCs dealing with their urges so far? Any interesting Acts of Villainy performed?
    Now I'm thinking with ponies!

Thats an odd coincidence then since one of the groups in Brutal Legend are called Tear-Drinkers

Just remember, there was a bit of a communication problem between the writers of the first two chapters and the writers of the rest of the book.

Well, remember, Primordials have a somewhat-odd mindset, with the Yozis doubly-so. Still, it was less a concert, and more that he had to play his very best songs just to get Isidoros' attention.

Another thing to remember is that you gain Limit from acting against your Urge. Working together with another Green Sun Prince to help him complete his Urge shouldn't make you gain Limit by default, or there'd be absolutely no point to the Thing Infernal.

    And yeah, Burnheart, odd coincidence.

Time for the newest installment of our game, now with a new player!

    Against the Bull, Sabertooth Tribe...

So, when last we left our troupe of Green Sun Princes, the duo of Abbadon and Yuki were going to find the remnants of his tribe, so he could recruit them against the Bull. They obtain a pair of "omen dogs," vast canines four feet high at the shoulder, and hitch them to a sled, setting out to the west.

They travel across icy plains, and notice something in the distance... a vast marble dome, something Abbadon had not seen there before. However, ignoring it for now, they continue on the lengthy journey to Abbadon's tribal grounds.

Finally reaching their destination, Abbadon is shocked to discover that the campsite is empty, with all that remains being tattered tents and a scattering of bones. Yuki spots something in one of the tents, and they slip inside. Within is a woman in tattered furs, clutching a man to her chest. The man is either dying or dead, with all four of his limbs broken, and the woman's body shudders as though she is sobbing, albeit completely silently. Abbadon attempts to speak with her, only for the woman to turn and spring at him with claws bared, all while making no sound.

Abbadon fights her off with his massive artifact sword, incapacitating her, before attempting to stabilize the dying man. He and Yuki then exit the tent, only to find that they are surrounded. From all directions, mastiff-sized insects lunge at them, intent on draining the pair of Green Sun Princes of blood; in addition, more of the unspeaking women can be seen, nocking arrows. Abbadon's displays of his magical fighting prowess, however, drive off the attackers, but he notes that they closely resembled the people of his tribe, warped as they were.

Yuki takes off after the pack of mutants, literally vanishing from sight as she sprints, while Abbadon continues to attempt to provide medical attention to the man, despite knowing little to nothing of the healing arts. He splints up the injured limbs and builds a fire, and does a passable job of keeping the fellow alive.

As Yuki gives chase, she notices that the silent troupe is somehow perfectly-coordinated, and actively taking efforts to befuddle would-be trackers (though, of course, Yuki is certain that she has remained unseen). She realizes, eventually, that they have crossed into the Bordermarches of the strange, inchoate chaos that the people of Creation call the Wyld. A thunderstorm is brewing, and the quiet mutants disappear into a mound of earth the size of a small hill, from which a strange moaning can be heard. Deciding that she didn't want to crawl through their little tunnels on her hands and knees, she soon departs.

Yuki arrives back at the campsite to see a strange sight; Abbadon is sleeping, something she hasn't seen him do in the two months they'd known each other. She patiently awaits his awakening, and then tells him of what she saw (and more urgently, of how the storm was now headed their way).

They decide on a course of action: namely, that Yuki would sprint to the strange dome, to see if anyone present could provide the injured man with the care he needed. Zooming across the icy plains with the speed of the Silent Wind, it takes Yuki only two hours to reach the dome.

Said dome is a grand marble structure, with eight gold-capped minarets and vast wooden gates. Yuki beseeches the guards, asking if the wounded tribesman could be brought inside and given the shelter and care he needs. They tell her that he would be well-taken care of in the "Mother's Hearth," so she races off again once she is out of their sight.

With the storm getting closer, Abbadon hitches Yuki to the sled, so they can pull the man to the dome before the storm hits. The tribesman is brought in and seen to by a thaumaturge, while Yuki and Abbadon are invited to enjoy the common room of this warm, comfortable manse. Abbadon notices a number of different tribes residing in the common room and magically-warmed courtyards, and even a handful of lesser gods. They learn that the place is owned by a woman, "Samea of the Blackwater Mammoth tribe."

Eventually acquiring an audience with her, the duo learn that Samea is actually a Solar Exalt, and a priestess of the Unconquered Sun, the Highest of Holies. She is most interested in their (partly-deceitful) tale, and when Abbadon inquires to her about the whereabouts of the rest of his tribe, she explains that when the Bull of the North vanquished them, he then extended an invitation to those remaining to join his fledgling empire, an offer that most of them accepted; if his wife is not amongst the mutants, then she is in the Bull's empire...

    Against the Bull, Karn...

(We'd've featured Ormagöden in this part with Gene, but he had to leave due to weather-related complications. )

Meanwhile, Gene has finally made it to Karn, a small kingdom located on the shore of the pleasantly-named Malice Bay. Karn has many varieties of resources, including ambergris, copper, and iron. They also fish, and, uhh, worship their ancestors. Also, as of late, Karn has been having some scuffles with the nearby Haslanti League, as well as with the Tear-Eaters (despite the fact that both are ancestor-worshippers).

Strangely, the people of Karn are visited by "Emir," a wavy-haired blonde princeling bearing regalia befitting of emperors. Gene just happened to disappear at the same time, and may or may not have fabricated Emir whole-cloth as a false identity to wear. Whoever he is, he's quick to find his way to Naala Bloodaxe, king of Karn. Bloodaxe, it seems, was in quite an opportune position; he became a hero after saving a number of Karnese troops from an attack by the Bull of the North, an attack that just happened to kill off the entire royal family. Naala was appointed, and negotiated peaceful trading relations with the Bull. Funny how that works, eh?

Gene/Emir represents himself as an influential maker of deals, asking to be granted a future favor in exchange for services he can provide now. Bloodaxe, somewhat leery of this presentation, asks what manner of services Gene provides, to which Gene replies that he can procure anything. It's starting to become his catchphrase, as of late. The king asks if he could be persuaded to provide more tools of war; however, first Gene wants to know more about Karn's relationship with the Bull of the North. Bloodaxe replies that the two trade, and that perhaps the Bull might be a useful ally in the near future against the Haslanti League. However, it seems Bloodaxe is hiding something, and after some delicate maneuvering by Gene, the king posits that he may well have the Bull to thank for his position. Gene agrees to use his "methods" to aid Karn's attempts to arm itself, in exchange for the aforementioned equivalent favor to be named at a later date.

    Prelude: Noric

A talented artificer from Nexus, Noric was ready to show his superiors the schematics of his magnum opus, only to discover that his work had been stolen by an ambitious rival. His depression, however, was interrupted by a strange, man-sized salamander covered in oily black feathers, which Noric recognized to be a demon. "Your brilliance does not go unrecognized," it murmurs to him, and offers him the power to actualize his wildest dreams. "...all you have to do is provide aid to those whose great invention was stolen from them."

When Noric accepts the deal, his body is enveloped in the black feathers; upon his egress five days later, his eyes were slitted, and his body ablaze with emerald light. He is urged into the Endless Desert, and after completing his journey, walks in awe through the streets between the massive, chaotic sprawl of brass towers. At the guidance of the demon within him, he discovers the Conventicle Malfeasant.

A Locust Lunch, and an Introduction...

Abbadon, Yuki, Ormagöden, and Gene all receive word of the newest Green Sun Prince; out of them, Abbadon and Yuki decide to travel to the Demon City, though Ormagöden and Gene decide to stay where they are, for now. During their travel through the Endless Desert, the two discover swarms of large, iridescent locusts. Figuring they might as well not go hungry, they catch a few and eat the locusts, finding them to be a delectable treat, feeling a strange sense of gratitude to Cecelyne, the Endless Desert, and loyalty to her laws.

Once inside the Demon City, they return to the Conventicle Malfeasant, gathering within the amphitheater to see Noric introduce himself. Noric impresses Abbadon with his impassionated speech, though Abbadon is more curious to see how Noric might apply his talents to the situation of war. Yuki also asks Noric what he intends to do, so that she might perhaps provide him aid in it. Noric's words also catch the ears of a roguish Green Sun Prince named Captain Gyrfalcon, who seeks to destroy the Haslanti League's fleet of airships. Noric suggests that he may be able to make a magical ship for Gyrfalcon to pilot, which the Captain seems to find to his liking. The Ebon Dragon, however, openly mocks Noric's boasts, leading to a bit of enmity there.

    Fetch Quest, Part Three...

Following that, some discussion between Noric, Yuki, and Abbadon over a pot of hallucinogenic tea leads to Norric shaping a number of mortals for Abbadon to bring to Szoreny, all seventy of whom the mercurial Yozi happily drowns in pools of quicksilver, and allows him to take a single sapling from the Silver Forest to bring to the forges of Ligier, who is pleasantly surprised. Noric also takes the opportunity to talk with Ligier about artifice while within sight of the green sun's building-sized black forge. Oh, and Yuki spent the rest of her day suffering through random, horrifyingly-intense mood swings.

That's pretty much where we called it a night. Noric's player did some rolls for crafting, figured out how long it'd take him to make a warship for Gyrfalcon, and Abbadon and Yuki decided that nine days away from the job was long enough, and headed off into the desert again. I'll try and handle some more stuff for Gene and especially Ormagöden soon enough, okay?

So, there's a new Chosen of Hierarchy joining the group? Verrrry interesting indeed.
Can "newborn" exalted really craft an airship and 70 people just like that?
Must be hard trying to keep the group together.

    Two more question:
    1. What is that giant dome? Sounds important but I can't recall reading about a dome in the North.
    2. Yuki's mood swings interest me: What caused those? A small gift from Adorjan, maybe?

    Can't wait for next week.

With the right loadout, it's actually outright easy. Still took him a while to make those, but he did it.

Who said I'm trying to keep the group together? To clarify, there's already plenty in the setting that's keeping them together; the same home base, the same "bosses," and the fact that they're all ostensibly working together on the same grand project.

Hmm... my first thought upon reading about the female survivors was "wendigo?" Is that at all right? Wendigo are cannibalistic monsters of the north, even if these were just creepy women and not outright monsters... did you draw any inspiration for the silent group of female enemies your GSP duo encountered? Because related to the myth, there's also Wendigo Syndrome/Psychosis so they need not be outright monsters...

Funny you should mention that; you're not the first person to suggest such a thing. In fact, I was just using a particular stripe of Wyld mutants, straight out of the book. Perhaps they were inspired by wendigos, though, so there's no real way of being sure.

    Thank you!

A summary of the session is forthcoming; in the meantime, note that I've made some edits to a couple of the beginning entries...

See, Natsu's player made a character, and showed up for the first session, but had to bail halfway through. I decided, at the time, to not include him, because I hadn't expected him to return. Sure enough, I didn't see him for the second session, nor for the third. However, since he's shown up again and explained why he couldn't appear for the previous sessions, I've seen fit to include him in again, and edited my posts accordingly.

Actually, until last session, he only had Malfeas Charms.

    Let's see...

Yuki had mostly Adorjan Charms, with enough Ebon Dragon to get Life-Blighting Emptiness Attack.

Gene started with only Cecelyne Charms, though he started buying Ebon Dragon Charms as soon as he could...

Abbadon's only non-Malfeas Charm he took starting out was Transcendant Desert Creature.

Natsu still only has Adorjan Charms...

Oh, and Noric's only got She Who Lives In Her Name's Charms.

Motivation is, in fact, your character's Motivation - it's the reason he gets up in the morning, the great thing he aspires to do. As such, it is nigh-tantamount to the character himself, such that trying to convince someone to act against said Motivation is often quite difficult.

Urge works the same way, with the same potency, but it is an artificial Motivation, imposed by the Yozis to help ensure their dreadful plan succeeds. More terrifying yet, choosing (or being compelled) to act against your Urge carries some very bad consequences.
