[Earl of Purple]

Thessaloniki- Barracks

A half-elf is here, looking to join up. He's wearing a steel breastplate, greaves and bracers, in addition to an open-faced pot helm with a noseguard. All of it has been lacquered black, and the breastplate has a red two-tailed scorpion device in the lacquer. The helmet has a polished copper crest depicting a rearing centipede, and around the half-elf's neck is a two-tailed scorpion amulet made of silver. He carries an ancient-looking bronze sickle with a bone handle, all of it engraved with slightly glowing runes and a steel-rimmed wooden shield bearing the same device as the breastplate.

Underneath the armour, the half-elf is rather androgynous due to his parentage, with his face appearing more feminine than masculine though his general body shape is decidedly male. He has brown hair and eyes, and his plain face has been adorned by a large tattoo of a two-tailed scorpion that rests its claws upon his forehead and its tails swirl on his cheeks.

Command and Control Tent

There are, in this world, an unfortunate number of unscrupulous individuals. Individuals who don't care who or what they fight for, so long as the 'who' is a person with a great amount of wealth. One of these persons approaches the tent, walking with a swagger. Another person walks next to him, slouched, hands in the pockets of his dirty jacket.

The first man is a tall, dark-skinned man with greasy and unkempt black hair. He wears a wide-rimmed stetson that casts a dark shadow over his dirty face. A pair of rounded goggles cover his eyes, tinted a dark and reflective black. His chin is covered with a scraggly beard, weeks over-due for a shave. An orange scarf hangs around his neck, flecked with dried, red-brown flecks. From his lean but muscular figure hangs an equally stained, off-green long-coat. Where there was once a belt, the shoulder-strap of a rifle has been threaded through the belt-loops where it hangs within easy reach of his right hand. Unlike the rest of the man, the rifle is clean and well maintained.

"So why're we here, 'gain?" Asks the person at his side. This person is much younger, probably no older than fifteen. The boy wears a light grey jacket over a faded jersey that may have been blue once. The outline of a number, 6, is barely visible over his chest. His jeans are a size too large for him and sloppily sewn back together in twelve different places. Sandy hair tops his still boyish face, a scarf and ski-goggles hanging around his neck.

"Why d' we go 'nywhere?" Snorts the man, taking a burning cigarette from between his lips. "'Cause there's people 'ere who want t' fight other people an' they's gonna pay us t' help 'em." He takes a drag of his cigarette and exhales before continuing. "Well. They're gonna pay me t' help," he grins.

"Yeah, screw you too, old man."

The man laughs. "Wait out here, runt." He says as he approaches the large and important-looking tent. "Try not t' get kidnapped again, hey?" Without waiting for an answer, he steps inside.

Shrugging, the boy comes to a stop. He shrugs off a grey back-pack, undecorated except for what might pass as a bat on a yellow field, and pulls out a worn, yellowed book. The pages crinkle as he flips through it to his last spot.

A girl who looks about fifteen is here, with blond hair currently in a ponytail, fair skin, and piercing blue eyes. Currently dressed in black clothing, she looks around as she heads towards the recruitment station.

It is, indeed, Rose.

The people of Thessaloniki may be surprised to find an overly large suit of armor walking around. How exactly RU1 got into the town is unknown, as is his intent, but he walks his way right into the barracks, ignoring any guards.

"Who is in command here?"

There are a lot of shadows in the tent, it being a tent and all.

Not all of those shadows should be there.

And one is currently taking the form of a many made from pitch black darkness, wearing a faded black tuxedo a la slenderman, grinning with a cartoonishly white and toothy smile bigger than his face.

"Gentlemen, what have we here?"

There's yet another person looking to join up in defense of the city.

Also waiting to speak to Silas is a man clad in simple brown clothing. At a glance one might easily mistake the individual for some mere mucky peasant, his clothing muddy and worn, his black hair long and filthy, as if it hasn't been washed for weeks...

He wears a plain brown cloak over his plain brown outfit, with simple brown boots that look old, but tough, as if they've been used extensively on many a long trek.

Plain. Brown. Boring. Easy to miss, easy to ignore, not worth anyone's time.

That's how he likes it. He doesn't like talking to people any more, not much anyway. He can't take it.

The only sign that there is more to this individual than meets the eye is the black cane he holds in his right hand. A stark contrast to his outfit, it appears flawless. It's not something he usually bothers with, but he imagines he'll need it here. He's here to fight after all, a weapon is rather important.

The man keeps his gaze fixed on the floor, hoping no one save the officer he needs to speak to will bother him.

He'd tried doing it himself, once or twice. Never had the guts to go through with it before, spineless coward that he is. So...if he can't kill himself, this seems like as good a way as any to get someone else to do it for him.

Cessie takes a seat at the table, noticing Harnel priority was food at the moment. "So I was actually thinking we could play some games once we eaten." She suggests. "Some really simple ones, nothing special."

"28, as of last month." Adir says with a little twirl of his spatula. Though his character sheet doesn't say so.

"What kinda games?" He asks Cessie.

Sakura returns to the table and sits across from Cessie. She sets Laela down in her stroller and gives her a kiss on the forehead before turning to face Cessie. "Ooh, games?" she asks as well, clearly curious.

Harnel looks over towards Cessie as well, clearly curious as to the form of game she meant.

The half-elf will find himself being joined by another elf, leading a group. They are all very short, no more than five feet tall, each clad in steel armour. Draped over their shoulders are the fur pelts of some great white and black-stripped beast. For now they carry their helmets tucked under their arms, revealing charcoal-grey faces with bright red eyes. Short, sharp ears peak out from black hair, decorated with small, coloured-glass studs. There are three females and two males in the small squad.

Her armour is shining steel, wrought with fine silverwork along her gauntlets, greaves and chestpiece. A helmet is tucked under her right arm, the right eye-slot covered with a ruby lens that glares at the world. The woman herself is grey-skinned and middle-aged. Her black hair is pulled back with a silver band at the nape of her neck, barely long enough to form a pony-tail. An eye-patch covers her left eye, a pale white and jagged scars running out from under it, crossing her face before getting lost in her hairline and re-emerging to just barely touch her right eye. Her ears and nose are short and perky, a small red stud decorating her earlobes. A leather bag hangs from her shoulders, filled with supplies. A harness strapped to her back supports the weight of a heavy, three-and-a-half-foot-long sword. "Tavish," she says, her Common carrying an almost francorussian accent. "Take Sevran with you and go see if you can find somewhere to set up camp."

"Can do, Moon Called," says Tavish, one of the females. She nods at one of the males, and they clank off into the city.

Thessoloniki is a pretty prosperous place what with all the mineral wealth there. Everything from exotic iron ores to altogether extravagant stuff like mithril, adamantine, and orahalcum. Rune and uranium and Mineral Crystals and Olympias knows what else.

If something is valuable in a fantasy setting and you can dig it out of the ground?

They've got it.

Which of course means they have plenty of money on hand to pay would-be mercenaries. Which of course also means that The Legion isn't too keen on losing their major mining regions.

Officer Silas is currently manning a rather large desk with a stack of forms nearby! Several other Jr Officers are also taking part in this rather boring bureaucratic formality.

They would probably rather be on the walls.

"State your name and what services you offer to the City State of Thessaloniki," Silas asks, his tone somewhat dead-pan due to the fact he's been doing this for several hours so far. Other newcomers will be met with similar questions.

And... the people aren't too surprised about suits of armor tromping about. They live close enough to the Nexus to get some weird stuff pop up every now and again. Those poking around the barracks will find plenty of room in the court-yard to set up camp. Might even find some other interesting people in there.

"Boy are there ever a lot of people out there," Silvanus breaths through his teeth. "Do you think Remnant will send anyone to help us?"

Gaius can only shake his head sadly. "I doubt it. Our city is too far away from theirs for them to care. Gotta remember that they're right in the middle of the Nexus. We only get hit by the edge of whatever insanity bubbles up there. They take the full brunt of it. Any troops they send to help us would weaken themselves."

Silvanus' hopeful look falls ever so slightly.

Gaius responds with a pat on the back. "Take heart, old friend. We've got plenty of people who know our cause is just. It'll be more than enough to show The Legion we mean business."

[Legion - Command and Control Tent]

Centurion Legate is dreadfully bored. At first all the bizarre and alien things showing up to volunteer metal and magic to the siege had shaken her. But now it's just a humdrum parade of freaks.

She and a few other officers are busy with the utterly uninteresting task of asking each who applies, "State your name and what services you offer to The Legion."

Allen will pass a fellow holding an empty tray of pastries and vegetables. No doubt it had just recently been replaced by a full one and this guy's carting off what was left.

Free food is the best kind!

Though the man starts slightly when some shadows suddenly come to life! "Mars!" he exclaims in surprise, nearly dropping the empty tray. "Don't you Nexus people ever use a door?"

[Legion - C&C Bunker]

XLV does exactly what he always did when trotted out in front of the Senators to look impressive. He looks impressive. Stretching up to a full eight feet tall, arrayed in his orahalcum armor polished to a ruddy shine that would make even Mars himself proud. The term Wyvern is very fitting given that's more or less what XLV looks like. Albeit a Wyvern with bonded armor, cybernetic implants, and an appearance that vaguely resembles what he was before the metamorphosis.

"A pleasure, Senators, to serve The Legion," XLV says in a voice befitting of a living weapon. "I hope the performance of the Century today will be up to your standards of excellence."

There's a bit of nodding a talking among the Senators as they consider XLV in much the same way someone might consider an impressive tiger in a zoo. XLV finds the whole experience somewhat demeaning. Especially considering that there's a sheet of anti-ballistics plastic between himself and them. As if he would ever think of assaulting a Senator.

"Well then," General Festus remakes as he gestures back to the door. "Unless there are any questions for forty five I believe this solider has a battle to prepare for. And in the mean time I would like to thank you all for your continued funding of my proje-"

"I have a question for it," the woman pipes up. A bit on the aging side of things, her hair black and flecked with grey. She adjust her glasses and approaches the divider much to XLV's surprise. It was pretty rare that they actually had any questions for him. To most Senators that made about as much sense as having questions for a piece of artillery.

"What is your name?" the woman asks.

Without thinking twice he replies, "Wyvern Fourty Five, Senator."

"No," she retorts, waving one hand. "No. Not your designation. Your name. What is your name?"

"Eerr... If I may, Senator," General Festus interjects. "The Wyverns aren't encouraged to use their names. You know that the public story is that they're just unusually clever beasts. We can't have anyone suspecting that-"

The Senator provides the General with a look that shuts him up instantly. XLV will have to remember that one.

"Your name, Wyvern. What is it?"

XLV narrows his eyes slightly. Bites his lip. It's been so long... what was his name? Wasn't it... "Theseus," mmm... That sounds right. "My name was Theseus, Senator."

Not drab, a white night gown, but it's getting very dirty crawling about, that might help.

As Brave Alfred Hee-hee! approaches the tiny valley he peers over it. When he sees the two napping bandits he pulls back and waves Sir Correl, to come and see. He would know what to do about the snoozing watchmen.

Sonnya just follows. What should we do?

"Reverend Narahar, priest of Dalachrech the Lord of Invertebrates. I can heal wounded, fight, ask Dalachrech's creatures to aid me and summon beings from the Abyss. My armour and weapon are magical, and I have battle-experience too. If I have a supply of black opals, I can reanimate the dead to fight on, though I specialise more in summoning and healing than reanimating." He bows slightly, seeming somewhat stiff due to the chainmail hauberk under the breastplate and protecting the parts of his body not covered by steel.

The annoying part of being in charge was that you had to do all the paperwork. Moon Called approaches the stand as her squad hangs back. One of them fishes a deck of cards out of his backpack, and the three of them sit down in a rough circle.

"Moon Called Shadsri leading the Sabertooths. We specialize in close-quarter combat and reconnaissance. There's five of us. We don't need supplies." As she rattles off, she picks up a pen and jots down a set of names below her own. Tavish Dastrasri. Sevran Kannadre. Mallod Serresri. Kavel Dastradre. "We're ready to mobilize at a moment's notice. Expected base bay of two hundred gold each and full looting rights."

Legion - C&C Bunker

Allen manages to scoop up a handful of pastries and vegetables before the man holding it jumps in surprise. He pops a baby carrot into his mouth, savouring the crunch and taste. Damn he loved this Nexus place, with it's fresh food and clean water. The rest are stuffed into his pocket to be eaten later.
Approaching the desk, Allen directs his attention not towards Centurion Legate but to one of the male officers next to her. "Allen Parker," he says, smugly. "Marksman. You've got more of this free food stuff, right?"

Whenever it gets to be his turn, the dirty, scruffy-looking man steps forward.

He doesn't look directly at any of the officers, his eyes focusing on the desk instead. "M'name's Leeh. Leeh Namoc."

He gives his cane a quick flick, and suddenly it's not a cane any more. The part he's holding in his hand has remained the same, but the cane's outer layer has slid away in some bizarre fashion to reveal a long, thin blade within.

"S'a tool of mine. Not as flimsy as it looks. More'n just a sword." His thumb slides over a section of the handle, causing the blade to start to crackle fiercely. His thumb slides back a moment later, and it's back to normal. Another quick flick and the cane is a cane once more.

Next, Leeh reaches through his clothing, and, err, into his body, with his hand, pulling a small pistol out through his clothing moments later. Something set into the pistol's handle is glowing faintly. After a moment he pushes the pistol back through his clothing and inside his body again. Kind of odd, that. Most clothes can't be reached through like that without leaving holes behind...or something. "I have several more tools hidden on my person. 'm a shapeshifter, can alter my body n' appearance. Can hide things inside my body. Good at fixing things too. Don't want any pay. Just let me fight."

"Hello, Subjects?" RU1 looks around, "As per my hippogryffic oath as a healer, I must plead you to find a way to avoid this bloodshed. This one will offer healing services to any and all Subjects, regardless of disposition!"

Oh, but doors are so mundane! Jumpin' Jack Snipes slides about the room like the image of the serpent, And I understand you fellows are looking for warriors to flock to your cause? To teach the people of that wretched settlement a lesson? To make them Fear You?"

Rose looks at the officer. "Triumphant Rose Guardian, Solar Exalted of the Dawn Caste. I'm a master of pretty much any range of combat, and I have leadership abilities as well. Ten years of experience at combat, and some experience leading men, mainly on commando missions in the latter case."

The knight looks at the waving Alfred and nods, his armor her/his armor was hardly appropriated for sneaking however. Gently trying to sneak the best way she/he can Correl slowly approaches the two while making slight noises as the armor moves. The fact the armor is two sizes too small doesn't exactly make it better either.

If the knight do manage to not catch the bandits attention she/he breathes more easily and looks closer at the drowsing guards. "This calls for some stealth I'm afraid, something you both seem to have a talent in." She/he whispers while looking down at the bandits. "It would be cowardly of me to just look on while you save the poor maiden however. I think I will attempt to distract the guards if something goes wrong. My armor might be poorly suited for stealth, but it's rather good at grabbing attention."

It's a beautiful, warm day. Great for a swim in the ocean, Eadin must have thought.
Unlike the mermaids you see in certain animated movies, she doesn't spend her time singing with fishes ( they can't sing') or pining after some human (she has a sort-of human of her own).

Instead, she chooses to explore the reefs and race with the dolphins. Human food makes you fat.

A middle-aged man with a coat, no shirt, and long blonde-going-grey hair walks in. My name is Flarg Tosscobble and what I offer is power, might, and skill. he takes off his coat revealing a necklace of blue spheres, a heavy leather glove with a blue gem in the center, a belt with dozens of pouches(plus three daggers), and a nice set of muscles. I harness many magical energies including that from the Plane of Shadow itself. the beads on his neck and the gem in his glove glow. Any shadows in the area are drawn in and form a half dozen wolves and a large falcon.

The reply to both elfy peoples is more or less the same! "Should the Legion forces manage to get into the city I don't doubt that your services will be absolutely invaluable. Though pray to your gods that the walls aren't breached."

Pfft.

Fat chance of that. Would be a really boring plawt otherwise.

"We have some additional weapons for use in the armory if you need them. If you can use a crossbow then firing a gun shouldn't be that much different."

Maybe a bit louder if nothing else...

"If you can position yourself on the walls or near the gates that would be best. It's suspect that's where The Legion will try to breach."

As for the shape-shifter... Officer Silas raises an eyebrow at the display. "The City of Thessaloniki thanks you for your generous offer. It's good to know that some people are willing to aid us in our cause out of a sense of justice alone."

Is that why he's actually... Oh well. Best not ruin it.

One of the Jr Officers gives the walking suit of armor an odd look. "You... uuh... You mean Hippocratic oath, don't you?"

Oh Nexus! You so silly.

Rose is given a curious look by another Jr Officer. "You've been commanding troops sense you were what, six years old?"

This results in a *thwack!* from Silas. "Your services are appreciated, miss Rose," the Sr Officer quickly says. You'll almost certainly be useful to us on the city walls."

And a shadow-magic guy too! His name is likewise jotted down. "Hopefully your magical pets will be able to distract the enemy from actual living targets. The fewer deaths in our city the better."

[Legion - Command and Control Tent]

"More than you could ever hope to eat," Centurion Legate replies to the gunslinger. "We'll have personnel carriers available to take you to the city when we've breached the barrier. Until then make yourself at home in the camp. And don't stick your arm in any of the war-beast cages if you feel inclined to keep it. We've already had two idiots get themselves mauled to death."

Yay, mauled to death! Getting mauled to death is the best.

Centurion Legate glares at the shadowy serpent of a being. "Our mission, sir, is the capture of Governor Octavius and the neutralization of any forces loyal to him. If we wanted fear we would bomb the city flat. Minimal civilian casualties is our preference. And if the civilians can remain relatively un-traumatized then so much the better."

[Legion C&C Bunker]

LXV was honestly happy to get out of there. That was probably the most awkward review he had ever been to. And that's really saying something. So very glad to be back with the rest of the Century and gearing up for the fight.

Up onto a platform he tromps as a spidery array of machines go to work on him. A mechanical arm lowers a railgun onto LXV's shoulder hard-point and locks it into place with a familiar ratcheting sound. He shifts his weight a bit, quite comfortable under the weapon's bulk. Feels naked without the thing, really.

"How was the meeting with the togas?" VII asks as the finishing touches are placed on his weapons layout.

"Oh, the usual. One of them asked for my name, though," LXV responds, his tone still vaguely irritable.

VII wrinkles his nose at that. "Your name? Didn't General Festus introduce you first like he always does?"

"Mhmm. Not my designation. She wanted to know my name name. As in my before the metamorphosis name," LXV replies.

That gets the attention of four more nearby Wyverns and results in a chorus of commentary and questions. LXV gestures with a wing to quiet them. "It doesn't matter. And don't let any distractions of your past life cloud your actions. We're weapons, nothing more. The spear of The Legion. And we'll bloody our edge today. Fight with honor and courage! For The Legion, and for Mars!"

The Wyverns know well enough their orders and go clomping off down various passages to their deployment points. Though one of them-

"Eighty, you're with me topside," LXV orders the newest member of the Century. She stiffens slightly at her superior's command before nodding. "You're still green. And this battle will be fierce. I'll be keeping an eye on you. I don't want to be meeting a third Eighty this month, do I make myself clear?"

LXXX nods again, "Yes, sir! I understand sir!"

"Then get moving," LXV retorts as he stomps off toward the lift. "We have some troops to inspire."

"I have seen guns before, yes. I have never used one, however." And if you aren't used to the recoil, they can really hurt. Or so I've heard, anyway; guns are illegal in the UK.

Rose grimaces. "My aging process essentially froze when I was actually fifteen. I'm twenty-five now."

Well, if Eadin is anywhere near the coast she would have seen the lighthouse go up in flames and crumbling. She might have also seen the battle. The debris that fell into the water would also alarm her.

Leeh nods and steps out of the way to let others through. He doesn't bother going to check their armoury. He's confident that his equipment is better. That, and he knows how to use it. No point learning on the spot when he's a master with his own weaponry.

A moment or two to silence his conscience and his fear as he reminds himself that this is a better way to die.

On the walls or near the gate, eh?

Leeh reaches inside himself and pulls out the pistol again. It would appear that he'd get to make use of this first. He heads out of the barracks and off to take a position on the walls.

What's that in the sky? It looks like a giant glittering bird!
But wait...what's falling from it?

A woman clad in armor and a horned helm hits the ocean HARD, blood spilling from several wounds on her arm into the salty water, her sword sinking to the bottom, along with her thanks to her armor.

"My apologies, miss," Silas continues. "There are more than a few people who don't interact often enough with Nexus natives to realize that things like unusual aging are common place."

Or lack there of in this particular case.

As for the recoil on guns, it depends largely on how powerful the gun in question is. A smaller firearm can be shot without much issue. Though of course smaller firearms might have issues with body armor.

And so the fellow with the gun and the cane-sword joins the defenders on the wall! He'll have a pretty nice view of The Legion forces in the distance. Wow. There sure are a lot of those guys.

How are they supposed to defend against all that again?

Oddly enough there doesn't appear to be any air-force buzzing the city... Probably because the city's anti-aircraft defenses would give them a pounding!

Narahar will take a small gun, a simple automatic pistol. He'll belt it on, before heading to the gates. He takes a piece of charcoal from the bag at his belt and slowly scribes a symbol on the gate posts, chanting as he goes. He puts it on the wall to which the gate attaches rather than the gate itself, and scribes another symbol opposite it. As he chants, his eyes glow dark slate grey and a pair of dragonfly wings made of light fade into existence. They have no practical purpose, but serve to identify magic being used and by whom.

Unless he is stopped at some point, the gate should be warded, and anybody that smashes the gates open or blasts them open will trigger a wall of blades made of magical energy.

...that's a lot of people. That is a huge damn army preparing to smash itself against the city walls until they break.

It's almost like the-

Someone is talking to him.

Deep breath. Take a deep breath. Leeh transfers his pistol to his cane-hand and runs his hand through his hair, getting it out of his eyes and adjusting it to keep it that way. A little shaping here, a little changing there...perfect.

Then he turns to Gaius, again avoiding direct eye contact. But now Leeh's eyes look a little different. Back in the barracks they were nice and ordinary. Now they're entirely green. And glowing. Just another thing he was hiding that would only hinder him if he kept it hidden now.

"Here to fight, yes." The pistol is transferred back to his other hand, and Leeh turns back to look out at the waiting army, his vision now far superior to that of any human. His eyes independently zoom and adjust as he tries to locate anything that stands out from the regular infantry that presumably make up the majority of their army.

"Do you know what their army contains? What are the major threats?"

Luckily Eadin noticed the woman and, nice fey she is, goes after her.

Immediately she creates an air bubble around the woman's head, allowing her to breathe (unless she's protected by some sort of anti magic). She then tries to unclasp the armour to prevent her from sinking more.
