They are my favorite item... when they are crushed a large elemental forms in its place under the control of the being that crushed it.

The ones you've obtained are slightly different in the fact that they summon Elder Elementals... well, atleast most of them do... one of each color summons an Elemental Weird which you must make a will save to control and a couple of them summon Primal Elementals.

This should even the odds a little next time you clash with the others.

Please note: There is no set duration for which the elementals last or stay under your control...

"Hmm, so which one of these summons a rock elemental?"

After someone points one out, Melk will set the crystal on a small rock and take a few practice swings at it with his hammer. After the 3rd swing, he smashes the small stone into tiny piece in an act to summon the elemental of earth.
Noticing the strange ire in both Shiver and Shakes eyes, Melk give his first order to the massive creature (if it appears) after clearing his throat.

"Sir rock creature, can you do me a favor and search earth beneath us for some diamonds? Any size will do. I do hope that is within your power sir."

Just saying that a pixie with 3 strength could crush one in it's hand...

John points to a brownish one They're colored similar to that of the element they correspond to.

Once the gem is smashed, a huge Earth Elemental stands up out of the ground leaving a hole where it came from.

The Earth Elemental just stands there for a moment and moves its limbs in a manner similar to the stretching one might do after a long sleep.
    As you wish master...

It then proceeds to sink into the ground, 5 minutes later it returns to the surface with a diamond larger than The Stone's ego...

    The diamond weighs approximately 600Lbs.

The stone seems only half aware of what is going on. He seems to have wandered a decent ways away from the group and is talking very quietly for the stone to his dragon companion.

I'm assuming that's an appraisal check... in which case you believe you could get around 70000000gp for it but with some haggling you could probably get double that.

Jewelry is pointless, what's the point in spending so much money on something that breaks so easily?

I dont know what sort of jewelry youre used to, but the stuff I buy never breaks. Especially if its diamond jewelry.
Now Im not saying it has to be made into jewelry, although that would clearly be the best use for it...but making a lifeless machine out of it would be silly. Better to find some old codger whos willing to fork out a bundle for it in one piece, if we arent going to make baubles out of it.
