Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Pietro
Raising one eyebrow at Ramone, Pietro comments, "Apparently he is. However - I'm not sure why you think staying together would be a good idea. We're not exactly a small group, nor are we…inconspicuous." His gaze falls rather pointedly on Collin's sword. "Even if we try to get passage on the same ship, we may not want to do so as a group, one representative or not. …And do you even know where that ship's going?"

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Collin
"Trade with the Hamlet of Fadewood is common this time of year, and that will be our destination. If this particular ship doesn't sail there, surely one of these ships will be." Collin turns to stare at Pietro directly, "Traveling on several ships is fine with me, if that is what you desire. I just assumed staying with the only companions you have in the entire world would be comforting. I must admit though we are very conspicuous."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Morgan looks around, "Conspicuous or not, we should stay together... that's my opinion and none of the arguments seem to change my fundamental feeling that it would be a mistake to split up."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
"Who in the world do you think you speakin' to, boy?" One of the well-built sailors turns his attention to Ramone. "If you ain't noticed we're all needin' a ship to do our jobs and we ain't givin' nothin' away to no-one. 'Speshly not to kids like you." He turns to look at the rest of the party. Which one's your daddy? He needs to have better control over you." The sneer that followed up the last comment was enough to make anyone's blood boil.

Leahanna
Leahanna responds to Collin saying, "I can be quite good at negotiations. I'd be happy to represent us. I too suggest we stick together, we'll be stronger as a group."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Collin twitches at the sailor's comments, and his jaw clenches shut. Turning to face the sailor he spits between clenched teeth, "Why don't you shut your mouth before I sow it shut for you."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Lirance watches the 'negotiations,' bemused. They get right to the point. I like that. And then the yelling started. Suddenly wary, he drew his sword and settled into a battle stance. "Friend, there is no need for these words. We do not wish to start a fight. However," and he shifted his tawny gaze to the sailor, "we will finish one."

"Then tell it to your loud-mouthed friends because they find themselves in some trouble." He shifts his feet and nods to his hired swords to keep their cool. "No-one comes through that gate and shouts orders at us, we're free people, not pawns."

Ramone
"Heh. I like these guys." He muses to himself, stroking his goatee. He steps behind Lirance and simply adds "Yeah."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Pietro
I don't know them, I don't know them…ah, dammit. "I was going to say," Pietro mutters, "we might briefly split up just so as not to run into any trouble in this godsforsaken hellhole. Now that it's too late, I have no problem with staying together. And Lirance, put away the bloody sword." He steps forward, limping slightly and leaning on his staff. "Sir," he addresses the sailor, smiling disarmingly, "These fellows mean no harm, and I'm sure they mean no insult either. Master Ramone was merely mistaken in his assumptions, due to the rather odd system of barter in the city; we would of course be willing to pay…if you have the captaincy of a ship, and happen to be going where we are…?" His left hand is flipping a pair of gold coins, letting them catch the light.

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
"Hah, now you bother to ask nicely." The sailors look at each other and grin. "What a bunch." He sneers again, but this time with a little more malice. "A kid who needs his daddy, a 'tough-guy' who fancies his chances, a half-beast who can't control his tongue and an invalid who thinks that calling me 'sir' will turn things around."
A rolling laughter cascades over the group of sailors and hired swords. They all seem to be from the group of smaller fishing ships and know each other quite well, and would have no trouble covering each other's backs should the need arise.
"We'll take ya." Comes a shout from a comparatively skinny-looking man from the back of the crowd. "High-violence risk fee though. 200gp each, but I can't guarantee we won't throw you overboard if we'd had enough of ya!"

"Half-beast? I am Lirance Tiger-Eye, a shifter of the Long Tooth clan. You will apologize, or I will show you just how bestial I can be."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Collin
Collin teeth spread apart, almost with an audible pop. I should have just took the ribbing, now we are about to cause a huge ruckus on the docks...
Turning to Lirance, Collin tentavely puts a hand on his shoulder, "Take a second to calm down. I was a little quick to give into his gibe, but look at the situation. He has a lot of his fellow sailors. While I'm sure you could decimate a good portion of them, the numbers are still stacked against us."
Taking his hand off Lirance's shoulder, Collin cups his mouth and shouts, "Is there some place a little more private we could discuss the exact terms?"

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
A few more sneers are seen throughout the group and in response to Collin's shout the group parts leaving the skinny man standing there rubbing his thumb and forefinger together.
"Now if you'd like to shut up, put up, and follow me..." He trails off and walks towards one of the smaller fishing vessels, receiving several jeers that follow his stride.
Once you're all on the ship he'll close the door and pin rags over the windows to block out any intruding views.
"Now, you can come with me on this ship and its sister ship as we go down river t'gether, which will still cost you 200gp each, I ain't budgin' on that price, or..." His lip curls flashing his partially rotten teeth, "You can do me a favour, and I'll pay you the 200gp when it's done. Half now, half later."
He pauses for a small while, wondering why no one answers him straight away. "Oh. The favour. Of course..." Mumbling to himself he pulls out a small pouch from a hidden drawer in a desk, "See the biggest ship here? They mask themselves as merchants, but what they have their pretty little fingers in is the business of slaves. If I wasn't too old I'd deal with them myself, but they took my Grandson several years ago now and I've heard nothing from him. I can't get any word whether he's still alive or not. I know he won't be on the ship, but if you put this poison in their rations and water I'd be able to die in peace, a satisfied old man. I'd take you wherever you wanted to go."

Ramone
Ramone grins. "Ooh, sounds absolutely delightful." He chuckles. He asks for the poison. "Sir, I shall help you with this ordeal, of course aided by my fellow adventurers. We shall deliver them a little dosage of... justice." He laughs a bit more, clutching the poison in his mage hand.

"Wait a minute there, young man." He nods in acknowledgement but snatches the pouch back out of the grip of the mage hand with a small scowl. "I'd prefer to hear what the rest of your little posse has to say for themselves, first. You're a bit too trigger-happy."

Morgan shakes her head, "I'm sorry for your loss... slavery is a terrible thing, and I believe that those who do evil will pay for their crimes eventually. I understand your pain and why you might wish this done, but I can't condone being a party to murder for profit. Even the most heinous villain deserves to meet his fate head on and not by stealth and skullduggery. Not to mention, your plan would take many out who are not guilty of anything... what of the slaves themselves?"

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
"Well it wouldn't be to hard to discern slave rations from the crew's personal ones..." Collin hand runs over his chin as he contemplates what course they should take, feeling the small bit of scruff had settled there. Collin eyes the pouch clutched in the man's hands, finally after a second of silence he says, "I'm not inclined to commit wanton murder, but if it is true they are contributing to slavery..." With a heavy sigh, "I have to agree with my friend, that justice must be served."

Morgan shakes her head, "Since slavery is openly practiced, it is obviously allowed by law. Attacking slavers in port is quite probably against it. I do not care to be arrested by the people in this town - something tells me they take their laws very seriously."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Collin proceeds to give a small lecture to the group, "Actually slavery is an institution that is illegal in Kolgrin. It seems they just keep their merchant business as a front. It just seems odd that nothing has been done by the government of Kolgrin, but gold might have been exchanged or perhaps they aren't even aware of it." Collin stretches his sword arm out, "Of course this means , it falls to us to end this heinous and illegal practice. By any means necessary...Though I suggest we make try to be discreet. I don't like the idea of sitting in prison, as a investigation is done to prove our innocence."

Leahanna
Leahanna had been watching the proceedings thus far, her face seemingly set in stone as they go about. She finally speaks, her tone firm and unyielding, "I refuse to commit murder, especially on nothing but the words of a possibly untrustworthy stranger. How can we be sure that they are in fact merely merchants who you have spun a tale about in the hopes that we'll get rid of some of your competition? Maybe you feel they've wronged you in the past, by firing you or simply being more accomplished merchants? You've given us no reason to believe they're actually slavers, or that you even have a grandson, and expect us to break the law and commit murder for you? Justice should be served honourably and fairly, I refuse to be your assassin, and possibly hurt or kill innocents in the process."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Morgan shakes her head, "I agree... however evil or wrong slavery is, this indiscriminate murder by poisoning is just as evil. I will not be a party to it. We were sent here on some higher mission, and we must stay together to do it; but I would rather wander off alone in this world and try to do it myself than take the course of action being advocated. I will not do this, and I will not work with anyone who does do this."

Leahanna nods at Morgan in agreeance. "Using evil to combat evil merely results in evil's proliferation. Were we meant to stand against evil in such a way, the gods of justice and mercy would not be so kind."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Collin turns to face both Leahanna and Morgan. His face is set like granite, and his tone comes out in a reproachable fashion , "Your purpose in being in this world is debatable. Have you forgotten the sacrifice needed to bring you here? You have a debt, the original price had been payed by a brave man's blood. I would hope that those who seem to value honor would seek to repay that debt. I won't force you to partake in action you disagree with, that isn't my place. If you try to leave though, I will to the best my abilities to keep you here by words or, if necessary, force."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Morgan raises her eyebrow, "You've just ceased to become our guide and now you purport to be our taskmaster? If I'm unaware of all the sacrifices that took place to bring us here, that is the fault of your master and now you. I do not accept any authority you care to claim over me, and if you attempt any kind of force on me, I will defend myself and my free will." She shakes her head, "If the sacrifices come to naught it will be through your actions and words, so I suggest you back down... right now!"

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Collin
"I wasn't aware that we had arrived at our destination? I was instructed to deliver you, I will do whatever is necessary to ensure you arrive there. If I have to sacrifice myself or others, than that is for me to bear. I do not wish to force you to do anything, all I desire is for you to arrive where you need to go in a safe and timely manner." Collin takes a deep breath, then in calm voice says, "I agree that acting on it before we know accuracy of the claims is ridiculous, first I suggest we try to find the answer to whether it is true or not. Then whatever actions after that can be discussed."
