Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Pietro
"Sir." Pietro smiles rather wryly, still leaning on his staff. "Or not, as it may be. Will you answer a few question, first? I have no qualms to poisoning slavers - or those who are that in all but name. However, we must be sure that they are slavers - and, perhaps, we can together find a better solution, should the ladies here disagree."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Sense Motive: The old man isn't lying at all. He also isn't lying about not being willing to lower his price
"It looks like you lot have a few problems yourselves. If you don't want to do it then fine, but either pay me the money to ship you there, or get off my boat and find someone else. Really. I may be an old man, but I do value what time I have left; I'd rather spend it sailing than listen to you bicker."
He sighs a little and sits himself lazily in the nearest chair, lighting a 5th oil lamp in the room out of distraction. "If you want to ask questions then fine, just hurry up."

Pietro
"What is your grandson's name? Who are his parents? Who do these slavers take? When, where, how? How much do you know about them?" The questions are rattled off in quick succession, as Pietro stares intensely at the man. "Do you know anyone else who's been taken?"

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
With surprising ease the old man recites the answers to the questions without much thought.
"His name is Herroy, his mother is my daughter Asanya but we know nothing of his father. The slavers take anyone who is of able body, so no women, children or elderly people. I've never seen anyone taken with my own eyes and rumours are so different that there is no set way that they do it. I'm just an old man who likes to fish. All I know is that they trade with Kolgrin, both goods and people, and we sit alongside them at the port many times. I don't personally know anyone else who has been taken, we tend not to talk about it too much. Is that all?" He seems somewhat emotional as he speaks, but not a man who you would expect to cry about it.

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Morgan sighs, "I feel for your loss... it is terrible." She looks at the others, "I'm sorry, but I won't commit murder over this. What if there was a cabin boy on that ship who's father indentured him to the slavers, who does not wish to be there. What guilt does he hold that we should murder him for the sake of this man's grief or our own desire to get to a particular location. There is no amount of information we could gather that would guarantee certainty that we might not be taking some innocent's life as well."

Leahanna
"I'm afraid that I must say 'no' as well, and I will not budge. I suggest we find passage on another boat. I have practice in diplomacy, I'm sure I could find us one some how." Leahanna stands with her arms crossed, her face resolute.

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
The old man sighs and nods his head. "If you decision is final, then so be it. I know I am asking a lot, but unfortunately my soul simply cannot rest if I settle for anything less. Good luck finding another ship. I suggest you attempt for the larger boats in port, as the smaller fishing ships tend to be very... well, you saw for yourself."
In the port there are several other ships to be seen and other than the largest, which was pointed out to be the potential slavery ship, there are a handful of smaller-but-big-enough ships that didn't get involved in your earlier dispute.

Leahanna
Back on the docks, Leahanna examines the other ships. "Let us go to that ship," she says, pointing to the nearest one that seems like it could accomodate the group. She begins walking towards it.

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
As you walk towards a bulky-looking ship, there are only two people who seem to be unloading goods from the cargo-hold. One of them sets down a crate, stretches his back and smiles over to Leahanna.
"I'm glad to see a pretty face around here. I'm sick of staring at nothing but ugly fishermen and talking to emotionless drones." He smiles an honest smile, and tips his thin cloth hat before returning it to his head. "What can I do for you, miss?"

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Collin face looks stunned as the man takes a break from his work to address Leahanna. Well that is certainly a refreshing change, a personable fellow. Probably going to charge an outrageous fee.... Collin stands by casually, waiting to see how Leahanna handles negotiations.

Pietro
As the rest of the party leaves, Pietro glances one last time at the man. "I'm sorry for you," he says, somewhat abruptly, and, head bowed, follows Leahanna out to the docks.
He stands next to Collin as Leahanna approaches the man, hoping for the best.

"Thank you kind sir," Leahanna says with a smile, "and it's 'dame', if you would. My companions and I are looking for transportation, would you happen to have room upon your boat for us?" She gestures back towards the group.

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
"Are any of you good enough for work?" He asks, somewhat purposely ignoring the 'dame' part of the request. "Or good enough to pay your way?" He continues. "We're not big or nothin, but we need all the help we can get. Everyone goes to Albaruk Lake this time of year to fish, so it's stiff competition. So we either need the gold to supplement our catch, or help to catch more than we'd normally get. I'd say 50gp each should cover it."
His wide toothy grin easily gives away that the 50gp would be more than you'd help him make, but would save you a lot of very difficult work. "Or any item worth around that much, of course. We're traders afterall."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Morgan shrugs, after an uncomfortable silence, during which nobody else speaks. "Well, I'm not trained as a sailor or a fisherman; though I've fished a little in brooks and streams in my home forests. I'm a novice wizard as well, unfortunately, I have no spells dealing with fish, wind or wave. However, I have two hands and a good brain; so if you tell me what you need done I can do it."

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
"Looks like we're settled then. We leave first thing in the morning but I can show you to your sleeping quarters for now; I know for a fact you don't want to be sleeping out here at night. You'd be picked up by the slavers in no time at all." Oddly cheerful, the deckhand leaves his current crate unattended on the dock to show you into the ship.
"It isn't huge by any means, but the place you'll be sleeping is comfortable enough, if not a bit... personal. The captain of the ship is not onboard right now, but he assures you that your passage is perfectly fine." He finally introduces himself as Graven, and tells you that the Captain just goes by his title as he severely detests the name his mother gave him.
--
Night passes without much intrusion. You hear people working through the night, and the odd scuffle here and there, but nothing to be alarmed about. When morning breaks you're woken early and told to leave your belongings in the hold as they'd just get in the way.
Work is long and tough, cleaning the ship one inch at a time; constantly making you wish you'd had the cash to begin with.
While travelling onboard you see various maps of the world (( HERE)) although the river you're about to travel down doesn't seem to be on there, and neither does Kolgrin for that matter. While memories flood back to you of your own personal experiences, knowledge about the rest of the world has faded and is distorted.
It doesn't take long until the ship gets to the lake and the fishing begins. However you seem to do less fishing and more cleaning as each day passes. There are several ships on the lake but a silent etiquette is present throughout the whole ordeal as people stay to their borderless territories.
The ship soon becomes full of a fish you admit to never seeing before, and you sail towards Fadewood quicker than you'd expect, although all the cleaning has made it feel like a lifetime.
When you reach the harbour, however, there seems to be some issues between a ship blocking the entire harbour from any other ships approaching, and a backlog of fishing vessels that wish to unload their catch. You can only hear the faint sounds of a heated argument on the breeze as you stand and watch.
"Well this is Fadewood." Graven sighs. "Why is it always one bastard who decides to screw it over for everyone else? If we don't unload this fish into ice soon then it won't even be good enough for bait. Do you guys want to take the skiff to find out what is going on? You've done your fair share of hard work and we've had the best haul that we've had in decades so I think it's fair that you're not left waiting for any longer than you have to."
((OOC: Faulty, looking at the map, now do you notice the huge coincidence I mentioned back in our PMs? ))

Ramone
(Side note, when working, Ramone did as little as possible, making use of his mage hand to the max of his ability.
"I'm not opposed to dipping out early." Laughs Ramone, breaking the awkward silence. "So, let's get on our way."

Collin takes the oppurtunity from working to pop the joints in his fingers. At the offer of taking the skiff, "Certainly sir! I must thank you and the crew for your patronage. It's been a pleasure working with you." Without another word, he heads to lower the skiff to the water.

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
As you approach the small harbour, you see that there is enough room slightly lower down the riverbank for you to pull up the skiff and walk onshore. In front of the ship that is holding everything up seems to be an argument between a Dwarven man in a respectable uniform, and the captain of the ship.
"I tell you, you get our crew returned to us, and we'll move out of your way. Simple as that." The captain scowls and snarls his demands at the Dwarf.
"It's not that simple." The Dwarf replies, but his voice doesn't seem to have a hint of any regular Dwarven accent. "Even our own villagers have been... disappearing. I can't explain it, but all our best efforts have returned no trace of them!"
"Once again you stunty oaf, that ain't our problem! We're not moving until your sorry excuse for a rot hole gets their act together and gets our crew back."
At this point a heft bottle is thrown by one of the other crew members from behind the captain and the wooden pier is set ablaze as it smashes. The captain spins around, snatches the crew member responsible and knocks him to the ground. "That is NOT how you get our crew back!" At which point the rest of the crew beats and pummels him into a bloody mess before tossing him overboard, face down, unconscious, floating downstream. "However, that's what you get for being a **** on my ship!"

Re: What Dreams May Come [IC Thread]
Morgan, having become used to how tentative everyone in the party is (and attributing it to the confusion everyone is feeling about the world shift), decides not to wait, but to speak directly. "Excuse me, gentlemen. If I may, I think I have a solution for you both." She looks at the dwarf, "You say some of your townsfolk have been disappearing?" She looks at the Captain, "You've lost some of your crew and want the townsfolk to do something?" She looks back to the dwarf, "I propose that, acting as agent for your town council you hire us to look into the matter of the disappearances. We can go before your council to negotiate a reasonable fee and/or conditions for payment as well as collect any pertinant information. Then the captain will know you're doing something and can let these other fishermen bring in their catch before they suffer unnecessary financial hardship." She turns to the captain again, "Does that seem reasonable?"
