Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
It's not a bad anime, you know. It gets flak primarily because of [Executive Meddling], not because Toriyama made a bad show.
a) He had intended to have Goku [Killed Off For Real] after the Cell games, and make the story about Gohan after that point, which would have been infinitely better than what we got. Goku's popularity scuppered that plan, never mind that it turned him into a [Canon/Purity Stu].
b) The ungodly amounts of filler were because the execs were unwilling to take a hiatus when they [Overtook The Manga], leading to situations like the infamous 5 minute/8+ episode destruction of Planet Namek fight.
Please, do yourself a favor and watch Dragonball Kai, which is the [Adaptation Distillation] of the original series - minus the filler - ending up much closer to Toriyama's vision than DBZ turned out to be.
(all phrases in [brackets] are Tropes, but I am [Too Good For This Sinful Earth] to actually link you there. ).

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
I know. Dragonball (and Z, and GT) was my first anime (at least at an age when I recognized the term "anime"), and my first manga as well. Doesn't stop it from being a serious case of Guilty Pleasure/Old Shame for me.
More than one. I steal them from people, you see. That's what I'm gonna do right now too, after my old one is gone.Last edited by Tengu_temp; 2010-02-15 at 09:09 AM.

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
Toriyama always seems to get screwed by the execs. I know of one time, however, when the guys working with him went out of their way to do what he wanted. The result was Chrono Trigger, widely considered one of the greatest games ever made.
(not that Toriyama was the only reason for this - they had a lot of talented people on that project)Last edited by Prime32; 2010-02-15 at 09:28 AM.

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
He also did the character designs for newer Dragon Quests, and several other good games. Though I didn't play any of them apart from Chrono Trigger.
Being disturbed is a disgraceful emotion - each time it happens to you, a small part of your pride disappears. And where does it end up? It wanders to the thing/person that disturbed you, of course.

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
Seriously discussing DBZ shouldn't hurt your pride. That doesn't even compare to some of the things I've actually seriously discussed... let's not get into to that. At any rate Dragon Ball was actually pretty good. Whether it was the first anime I saw depends on whether 80s shows that bore no resemblance to their source material count. Was Speed Racer 80s? I loved Speed Racer, does that count as Anime? Anyways I guess the best explanation for Ginyuu not stealing Frieza's body was fear.

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
It's probably too late and AT doesn't care much anymore, but it'd be amazing if they did something like X-Men Forever for Dragonball. Go back to the moment when editorial control went off the rails (what was supposed to be Goku's death fighting Freeza), and do everything the way AT wanted (unless what he wanted was to just end it there, I guess).

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
The way I see it, Ginyu and Frieza go back a long way, is it a possibility maybe they are actually friends? Or maybe they have sort of a "I scratch your back you scratch mine" arrangement.
The way that Ginyu might benefit from this is that Frieza attracts really powerful enemies, and Ginyu steals up their bodies, bolstering his power level. As such I conclude that the lavendar veiney-headed horn guy is certainly not Ginyu's original body. To reinforce my point I go back to me watching the older episodes from the Namek saga literally a few minutes ago, when Ginyu told Jaice "the stronger he is the better" and Jaice immediately got the clue, it can be interpreted that this isn't the first time he's done that.Last edited by Emperor Ing; 2010-02-15 at 03:17 PM.

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
He's not doing that, but I have heard that he is working on a project to make a DB MMO, which will supposedly be canon and explain what happened after the Buu Saga. At any rate I don't think Goku was supposed to be dead so much as it was supposed to end like Cowboy Bebop; he might be dead, but we will never know. What happened after was how he wanted, it's just that what he would have rather done is stopped there and worked on something else, but the Yen Printing Machine that was Dragon Ball wouldn't let him. He still does various projects, it's just that they are either not as famous as Dragon Ball or else he only does the artwork (eg Dragon Quest).

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
Little known Fact:
There's one of the SNES Dragon Ball Z games that's very RPGish. It goes all the way through the Freiza Saga, and includes the fight with the Ginyu Force.
It's possible to manipulate that section in such a way as to keep Goku in the Captain Ginyu body with the CHANGE! ability after that fight. Soon after, you fight Freiza with him.
You can then take Freiza's body.
The game starts to **** bricks shortly afterwards. If RPG's have taught me anything, it's that all social and economic problems of the world can be solved through murder.

Why would you need to take frieza's body when you can just use the Dance of Joy to incapacitate him?

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
Another possibility: Ginyu did not try to steal Frieza's body because he was in love with him.

Re: Why did Ginyu never steal Frieza's body?
Well, at least when I was a kid I thought Frieza was a chick till someone corrected me. I mean really, how is a monster that effeminate a dude? It even has an effeminate voice in both English and Japanese. Damn crossdressing aliens. Is android 18 the only female villain in the whole series?
