Default The Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb

That other thread that talked about this game is old and as such, necro is a no-no.

And taking advantage in the fact that the expansion for TBoI has been here for quite a while, how about talking about this?

Personally, the name of the expansion struck me as creepy. Way too creepy.
The new items are awesome, and so are the new pieces of music by Danny B.

    Challenges? AWESOME.

A new character that brings a new dimension to the word "HARD" makes it interesting.

New enemies, floors, items, floor curses, objects, rooms, events, and a whole new theme?
    Words cannot express the awesome.

I actually think it was pretty pointless. I understand they're trying to keep with a theme, but they could have called it "Wrath of Master Chief" for all the relevance it had to the actual game. Unless there's something about it somewhere i missed...

I thought Samson was easy. I unlocked him and beat the whole game with him the first time i used him.

It could be a metaphor for Isaac. Lambs have a history as sacrificial objects for Christians, don't they? Even if not, lambs are still a stereotypical weak, helpless target.

Granted, I haven't played the expansion, but it fits with what I know of the game.

I suppose that's a possibility that i hadn't really considered. I still find it to be odd though.

I still have yet to beat mom and have it actually count.

Every time I do it, the game doesn't end, it just...continues. If I quit to menu or go find a way to die, it doesn't count mom as dead.
As such, I haven't unlocked Samson.

It's definitely a reference to the Binding of Isaac in the Bible. After the angel told Abraham not to sacrifice Isaac, he sacrificed a lamb.

I'm well aware of that, unfortunately the game is called Wrath of the lamb, not Sacrifice of the lamb or something else that's similar and nowhere in the game is there a lamb, a sort of lamb-boss, or any reference to a lamb(unless it's in the form of an item i haven't unlocked yet). Unless with Luzahn idea that it's a metaphor for Isaac. Although, i'm sort of of the opinion that they just went "Lulz, more bible references" and went with that.

    Ergo, my statement,
they could have called it "Wrath of Master Chief" for all the relevance it had to the actual game.
I'm well aware of the biblical reference, but it doesn't really have much relevance to the game outside of that. "Wrath of Isaac" may have been a better title, or something to refer to the new content added....

    "Spiders Galore" maybe....

Uh? Samson is good. Really good, since they gave him that soul heart that lets him get around his early fragility. The blood lust bandana is a lot more effective as a damage increaser than Judas's book.

I've not gotten to the chest yet, but I've beaten all 10 challenges and beaten the Cathedral with every character except ???. Albeit, for the purist challenge I attribute my success almost entirely to finding Epic Fetus in the first secret room.

Of course, it would be a metaphor for Isaac. He was a potential sacrifice, just like a lamb would be. He and the lamb are very similar. Isaac is the lamb, and the lamb is Isaac.

Just as Jesus is the Lamb of God, since he can be considered an innocent sacrifice.

There's also tons of allusion to the book of Revelation, so it might be from there.

As we gently turn the thread *away* from religon, I have to agree with the "so many spiders" comment, especially that deeply irritating spider-spawner-spawning boss.

Does discussing where a phrase comes from count as "religion"?

I don't know, but I think it dances dangerously close, which is why I considered making a Binding of Isaac thread a while ago and didn't.

Also, I have played this game now for 3 hours and never completed the 3rd floor.

If you've finished the game, and still haven't realized why it's called "Wrath of the Lamb", then I got some bad news for you: You're not getting the idea.

The thing is, and spoilers for those who haven't finished it:
    Spoiler
    Show
The final boss in the Cathedral is, oh surprise, Isaac. Being the metaphor for Lamb, and given the difficulty of beating him, that's the reference.

And then comes the big Spoiler:
    Spoiler
    Show
The final boss in all ofthe game is none other than ???, being Isaac's own view on his mortality. His reflection on death, he fights his own dead self to understand the sacrifice he thought he was making when he tried to suicide himself by locking himself inside his chest. And thus, his fight against himself, the sacrificial lamb, and the fierce resistance of this sucidal thought is what makes it be called "Wrath of The Lamb".
