To be fair, not everyone likes using glasses. I know several people who hate them, and will only use them as a last resort. (I don't get it, myself. I hate even the thought of having things on my eyes, let alone the feeling.)

So, I guess even if it's a better offer, it also comes down to preference.

Contacts also have the advantage of being able to wear any sunglasses you want AND being able to tell what people on the other side of the room are doing.

What about laser eye surgery? It's clearly the best option because it has the word "laser" in it.

I mean if you're getting FULLY COMPED prescription glasses, wring them ****ing dry and get the trans-lenses that turn into sunglasses when light hits them. If they're genuinely, seriously going to pay a 600+ dollar thing for you EVERY YEAR, go hog wild.

Pretty sure my plan has a dollar cap - so it's more like "we'll pay for a pair of glasses a year, up to X dollars."

The only problem with laser eye surgery is if it goes wrong. OK, that's a rare occurrence, but you *can* end up functionally blind after the operation. The only way that will happen with glasses is if you poke the earpiece into your eye really, really hard.

I got eye surgery about three years ago, to correct my shortsightedness. I can honestly say that it was probably the best decision I've made in my entire life. Even if I need to get another one in a few years, it's still the most comfortable option.

Besides, back when I did use glasses, my optometrist said that my eyesight sucked so bad that I needed to get custom-made contacts if I wanted them, and they were too expensive, so I'd have to use contacts AND STILL use regular glasses. So yeah. I know some people prefer contacts, but not everybody can use them.

That's my two cents on the matter. Laser surgery=great, contacts=not for everybody.

Depends. If you're going to get one or the other, glasses are the best option. If you want both, contacts are likely the correct option.

My glasses fit better than any pair of sunglasses I've been forced to wear, turn dark when exposed to light (how dark? Depends on how much light ), and I can tell what people on the other side of the room are doing - both because they correct my shortsightedness and because they aren't dark all the time (sunglasses are annoying!!!).

Also, even if those nice things were not true, I've gotten so used to my glasses that I feel naked without them.

That's the same as me. I barely recognize myself if I see pictures of me without them. (I need the pictures, because otherwise I can't actually see my face. )

I don't particularly like the transition lenses, though. They kept going dark even when I didn't want them to, so I got a pair of magnetic clip-ons instead. Work much better for my purposes, even if it is a tad annoying to have to carry the case around.

I don't like the "transition lenses", because they don't get dark when I want them to (when I'm driving), I've wound up keeping dark tinted prescription glasses in my car, and at work.

Just back from finally seeing Dunkirk in its last week at the cinemas. I managed to time it pretty well as well, as I've been at a two day party and didn't get very much sleep. The exhaustion meant the breaks on my emotions stopped working, and for a film intended to be touching, getting really deeply touched only makes it all the better.

I just have a pair of glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses. However, I can get away with not wearing them - my vision is only -1.25 spherical, which isn't exactly severe.
