Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
Hm. Never actually played Bastion. But yeah - currently on family vacation, only reason I'm currently in proximity to mum, so I've got what I can carry. Which does not include a desktop computer, though it does include a Chromebook that could maybe handle classic emulation.
There's an idea! I've got three of them on my 3DS (Amazing Mirror from the Ambassador thing).

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
If you don't mind spending a bit of money, picking up an old ds and a couple copies of Super Star Ultra might be worth it. Because you can basically go through the entire game co-op, and it's pretty fun. Starts off easy, learning the ropes, but there's a pretty reasonable difficulty slope.
The stars predict tomorrow you'll wake up, do a bunch of stuff, and then go back to sleep.~ That's your horoscope for today.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
...Yet you are going to recommend it as someone's first videogame ever, of any genre or platform, for some reason. Right?
ION: It's time for a RB Time Loop trivia quiz!
Even this sentence has been repeated before.
- To what word did FireFox correct "Thingidoodles"
- Who created the thread precisely one hundred instances prior to this one?
- In the thread with the most title changes, why were those changes (allegedly) made?
I use braces (also known as "curly brackets") to indicate sarcasm. If there are none present, I probably believe what I am saying; should it turn out to be inaccurate trivia, please tell me rather than trying to play along with an apparent joke I don't know I'm making.

Yeah, it was *me* that made that recommendation, and frankly I stand by it. I don't think Bastion is particularly hard, but it's reasonably short and enjoyable to play, so there are certainly worse gateway games out there.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
Personally I'd go with either an easy platformer (Mario for example) or a basic JRPG. One of the pokemon titles, maybe. This is mostly because this is how I was introduced to gaming.
That said, there are certainly worse choices than Bastion for a first game.Hate me if you want. But that's your issue to fix, not mine.

Am I the only one here who absolutely despises platformers? Can't stand them.

Third day of wearing damn good red lipstick. At home. With no intention of going out.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
SpoilerNo idea.
The Rose Dragon, but it belongs to everyone.
Um?
Hm. Any choice for JRPG? I haven't played many - Pokemon (most of them) and Chrono Trigger and Xenoblade Chronicles. I could see enough story in PMD2, but everything else has the problem that even if there's enough story stuff it only turns up after several hours of random encounters and uninteresting questing.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
I think I just don't enjoy that particular sort of difficulty. It's hard, for me, but it's the kind of hard that just feels pointless to me. Which I recognize isn't really objective - it's a video game, it's no more or less pointless than figuring out how to outmaneuver a difficult opponent in a strategy game - but it is what it is.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
It feels fun to wear make up when I want to. Sometimes I think that I'm wasting the make up I have, but uh, as in the past my foundation was about 11 years old when I stopped using it because I just almost never used foundation (didn't need it for most of those years, I had porcelain skin as a teenager)... I'm like, ok, it's alright for me to play around with make up and the like whenever I feel like it.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
My personal recommendation for an early game is just to find one that doesn't punish death/failure too hard.
As long as you're happy with doing it, seems like good enough reason to me. I know when I was much younger, I liked painting my fingernails mostly just because of the feeling of the process, even though the odds of getting out of the house and anyone seeing it? Basically near zero. The stars predict tomorrow you'll wake up, do a bunch of stuff, and then go back to sleep.~ That's your horoscope for today.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
- "Bloodlust"
- Not gonna go back to the thread index just to look up a thread from the very days I joined.
- From what I remember, it was a joke accusation of Rawhide changing the title behind the creator's back.
While I can enjoy the exploration part of many platformers, especially those of the kind where failing the puzzle just puts you back to just before the puzzle, grand strategy is where my heart lies as well.
I actually got myself involved in the development of Ashes of Erebus recently. Currently it's just as a qualified bug reporter, but I might actually pick up some development work in the future when the bugs feel less scarce. Probably not before the next release, but we'll see.
Dwarf Fortress gives you a message that "Losing is fun!" written in friendly green letters. That isn't very punishing, is it?Last edited by Teddy; 2017-08-09 at 02:29 PM.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
I agree nowadays, but Super Mario 64 is how I got started. Nowadays I'm more of a strategy and RPG guy.
Pokemon's the only one of those I've played, unfortunately (I hear CT is really good). There's more to keep track of nowadays than there was when Red and Blue came out, but it's stayed relatively simple. 6 pokemon, 4 moves each, it gets more complex the more you understand, and 'dying' doesn't punish you too hard.Hate me if you want. But that's your issue to fix, not mine.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
I don't despise them, but I don'tgo out of my way to play them either.
Do you think a pokemon game you have might be a fun intro? I liked Moon and it kept my attention well though the beginning is so very slow and hand holdy.
I don't think ORAS or XY managed the same with their story.Last edited by Rain Dragon; 2017-08-09 at 07:10 PM.
