Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
I said alternate reality! This Miko put on the girdle because the Dwarf was gay and liked asians in this world.
Then she/he ate him. And the order of the stick. And every living thing in Azure City when it went back.
It was a lousy administrative choice, taking on a Tarrasque as a member of the guard, really.Last edited by kagato23; 2011-04-11 at 09:35 AM.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
Good comic. Rich show character growth for Belkar, and remove a plot device that could potentially save Roy, at the same time.
Of course, he didn't need to show the Allosaurus ever so it was all by design.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
Hmm, it appears that during the vision quest, Belkar did have some actual character development. His stated aim is to appear more helpful while being in reality just as evil as ever; but were that the truth he'd be trying to convince Roy he released the allosaur, and not the reverse.
Well, either that or we're witnessing his plan to be subtle and coax Roy to figure out he's being helpful on Roy's own. But Belkar isn't exactly good at subtle.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
This one really makes me wonder if Rich has been reading the forums and decided he needed to spell it all out in small words for the folks who refused to accept that Belkar actually did a Good Thing. I hope not.

Belkar is up to something.
Or, perhaps, maybe for once he is plotting to help the party... and will end up dead for it.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
I was thinking Il Duce from Boondock Saints. Sadly, I cannot find the picture of him being chained with four guards wheeling him around.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
He is wearing the same helmet, and that's an iron cage, not a black shirt. Also, the person getting chopped in half is wearing the same armor that Roy is currently wearing, and has a big round head with no hair.
I'm going with "it's a clew!"
Although it appears to be a different axe, the one in the poster is a double-bladed, the one in the current strip has some sort of spiky thing on the back.Last edited by brionl; 2011-04-11 at 10:34 AM.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
That last line shows why Belkar is my favorite character! I am a lot more eager to know why he decided to help them than seeing Roy and the champion chop one another...

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
Belkar is actually scheming? And the forums are having a hard time figuring out what? A remarkable situation for Death's Lil' Helper ....
By the way, am I the first one to notice the pun on D&D sizes, with "Finely chopped" and "one step worse than diminutively"?

Gaspth!!
Belkar character development!!

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
Except he has explicitly stated that he doesn't do that. And he probably had this planned a long time in advance.
On another thread, the best theory brought up was that when Roy said "It's like watching someone duel their own puppy," Belkar made a sympathetic connection to his situation with Mr. Scruffy. Obviously Belkar would never want to duel Mr. Scruffy, his only known friend, and he sees a similar situation here.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
Sigh. No he hasn't. He does read the forums. He just responded to a thread about this very strip. People who say he "explicitly" stated that he doesn't read the forums misread his quote. He may not read them often, but he does read them.
Something-that-could-happen based on this strip:
SpoilerRoy will start losing to the Champion. Ian will help Belkar break out into the arena to help Roy.Last edited by ThePhantasm; 2011-04-11 at 11:30 AM.

Re: OOTS #786 - The Discussion Thread
The Champion can't kill Roy. That would just be wrong.
Belkar's in pretty deep water though, especially if he puts his neck out for Roy.
