Yesss... that's one way I'm trying to differentiate Izumi from both Ichigo and Masato. She very much fights smart instead of just going to full power.

She'll even *gasp* keep Bankai in reserve! O.o

Once she gets it. Same applies to Shikai.

Although, Ichigo was Perma-release Shikai, so he didn't really have anywhere to go except Bankai.

I think "tonics cause you massive amounts of pain" might be downside enough. I mean, characters individually shouldn't be able to take the constant pain of using tonics unless they actually just don't need them because they're that powerful. Pain is usually a pretty good deterrent for using them. "Addictive" feels like it would promote usage, since the subjects would need to "get their fix" and therefore (ab)use tonics more often.

I think you have Caja Negacion and Negacion confused, Caja Negacion is the one used on Ulquiorra and isn't AS bad as bakudo since...A) It can only be used on arrancar/hollows and B) It only works if it hits a very specific spot. I'd also say it's more Save or Die (for those not strong enough to escape a Negacion) or Save or Miss Battle. It's use against shinigami is...utterly nil. Though I did just think of a last ditch effort use for it...

Well, the reason I referred to Negacion as Caja Negacion is because that's really the only time anyone in Bleach Canon has used anything resembling Negacion in a combat-related situation and actually had it succeed in doing...something.

I'm pretty sure you can't "get around" a Garganta, since I've seen no indication that an Arrancar couldn't just make it as big as they wanted or something. I mean, if Ulquiorra can make television screens out of them, who knows?

I thought Kuyou Shibari was supposed to be some sort of energy drain spell. Like, by creating a black hole, it drains a person's energy into the holes around them or something. Maybe that's just me.
