Re: Famous Avatars?
I never have trouble recognizing mauve shirt, Coplanter, or cookie monster's avatar.

Re: Famous Avatars?
I always remember Serpentine's avatars. Who else has a giant snake-legged person as an avatar?
I also love CurlyKitGirl's avatars, since they're well drawn and creative."Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other."

Re: Famous Avatars?
I think it has to do with those who create and mantain a definite and stable visual identity. It's not only about having a single avatar forever, there can be variations to it within a theme, and that's trickier to pull, especially when the theme is not so evident.
I think that presence and exposure to the avatar and the username is what does the trick. Not necessarily the person behind it.
Yes it is. Bonus points for a well cultured reference instead of the obvious *bows*
Also guys, spamming the thread with characters from that cartoon got old fast :/

Re: Famous Avatars?
Aside from the quip about "you can't spell 'infamous' without 'famous'!", wadledo might have a point. If we still had animated avatars, and someone had one of those retina-searing fluorescent animated .gifs, would that be worth celebrating? On the other hand, I am not considering the person using the avatar in my selections. If anything, I'm looking at the artist and wondering who it is (since I have signatures disabled, and only rarely remember to View Public Profile for a temporary sig display).

Re: Famous Avatars?
I used to have a famous/memorable avatar, but I guess everybody forgot about it, so maybe not.
I don't really think I could make a list of famous avatars. I've got nearly all the custom ones cataloged somewhere in my head, which means the only filter I can apply is 'which ones are/were my favorites?' Or... is that the point here?

Re: Famous Avatars?
Oh no, Phoe, your avatars are recognizable In fact, I'd say yours are one of the most memorable ones on the forum
For me, I recognize avatars of the people I chat with on regular basis. Some, like Atreyu's, Goof's and few others are known to me, even if I don't speak to them often. But I memorize all avatars pretty well.Adrie, half elven bard. Drawing by Vulion, avatar by CheesePirate. Colored version by Callos_DeTerran. Thanks a lot, you guys. This place is not a place of honor…no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here… nothing valued is here."There will come a day so dark you will pray for death. On that day your prayers will be answered."Book of shadows, book of night, wake the beast and banish light.
