Gerard looks back, holding the axe at bay with his shield.

I'll be fine Kat. I've fought worse. Trust me. Gerard smiles, then turns back to the whole "fight" thing.

As previously implied, with Istari changing his movement to I7, Roan moves to H7, while calling out to Kat and Gerard "Watch yourselves! I'm going to help the mages for a bit!"

...It turns out that this is my hat, isn't it?

"Good gods..." Anselm muttered. "They've gone and blocked my escape, and left an open hallway for anyone who wants to traipse by."

He looked aside. "Nayomi, get out of here. Fast. I'll see if I can slow him down. You lot! Forward march!" He bellowed at the soldiers. "They can get halfway to the king before engaging you!" Anselm rushed forward again, situating himself next to the sword master.

"Well then, what are you going to do now? Kill me, or let the reinforcements arrive?"

OOC:

He's totally going to kill me.

Move to K14.

(Anselm, the soldiers deemed attcking the immediate threat to King Orion would be wiser than following your orders and moving past him 4 spaces south. If you really want, I will redo their turn, bring them back to life, and move them there (and only there, nowhere else), but it wouldnt change anything. With two turns left, they would be unable to stop Lazrias, and no other superboss would be able to reach King Orion.

Seems like a good time to remind you guys of a few things. 1) If a superboss kills you, there will be a penalty, but it wont be as bad as permanant death. If anything else kills you, you're still dead though. If Lazrias succeeds in killing King Orion, the game will not end. It may change the path the plot follows, but the game will continue nonetheless. The only effect failure will have for this map is that you won't recieve a bonus for winning, but this early in the game, it wouldn't be anything more than a handfull of experience or a small sum of gold for your team, nothing too great so no need to stress.

Also, grats to Gerard, who will level up on his next attack so long as he doesn't miss.)

Move to E7 and heal the archer. Roan and Nathaniel, if you move in front of the left most king's guard, you should be able to set up a potential man barricade without drawing heat from Laz yet. His AI will make him try and punch through the guard on the right.

(Funny that you assume a high level commander type to be incapable of making strategic descisions...

Anyways... it remains an option, however even if Lazrias DID do that out of singleminded determination to kill the King, on turn 8 he would either kill the King or one of you would have to take the hit instead... it would be a stall at best.

At this point it essentially comes down to the choice between letting the king die and not getting the reward for victory, or taking the hit in his place and being penalized for it.)

Granted, setting up that man wall would depend a lot on the king's guards not being part lemming. If you run in but don't block, they rush in and die, laz could probably move his four spaces and frag you with his sword on the way. And then kill the king after that. That would make for a colossal fubar.

New plan: roan, Nathaniel, and Nayomi all move into a blocking position, with roan ready to fill in any gaps in the formation. Even if the guards lemming, that should hold Laz for two turns.

If Francis were in a position to join that strategy, I probably wouldn't send him in, so I'm not suggesting that course of action. But if the three of you feel like changing the course of the story...

In unrelated news, rakken, you have a chance to earn a bundle of EXP this turn. It's a little risky, but you could move to B7, hit the half dead archer on C8, and score one kill. On the NPC's turn the archer on D7 will move in and attack C9, wounding the swordsmen there. If that swordsman targets you on the enemy's turn, you get a second kill. In addition, you're out of range of the myrmidion and can run right back in to cover and healing on your next turn.

Obviously, this maneuver has some risk for you and a good deal of benefit for me, preventing the random number generator from killing me with the archer and giving me something to heal next turn. However, it also keeps the NPC archer from stealing experience and sets you up for a possible double kill.

Definitely your call, man.

(reaches over to his Classic Controller, hits the Home Button, slides the cursor over to "Restart") Dang it, I don't think I've seen any other FE game start with overwhelming your defenses...

Roan sees the unknown swordsman slice through all of the guards effortlessly... and rushes to the main corridor. He raises his sword, leveling it at the man's head, and calls out "I don't know who you are or where you come from, but I can't let you just walk in here and kill my uncle."

I'd rather not take the penalty for death, but if it's the only way to win, Roan's gonna take his wounds... like a MAN!

(If the knights were going to go lemming, they would've done it as soon as Laz was in their range. I said at the very beginning that they absolutly will not move under any circumstances and that hasn't changed. They will still attack when they get the chance, but their feet are firmly rooted in place)

OOC; Kuma, I can see a slight flaw in this little plan here.
The Archer moves last.
Thus, the mercenary has a chance to block my path back to you when he moves in to attack the archer.
If He does so, I'll move back to A7 and try to survive the dual swordsmen. Can Nathaniel be ready to help bale me out?

OOC: Debating stuff.

Option one: I attack the fighter. Katleia attacks the fighter. Katleia end in range of swordmaster. Not good.

Option two: I act heroic and move next to Katliea, shove her forward. She runs down into the south room. Hero Gerard! I have the most XP of team green anyway, and he may not even attack me. Plus Katliea can run into the corner of the room, and shoot over the wall at the hand axeman.

I can dash across to A7 and set up healing camp there next turn, Geno. I got your back.

Edit:Shades, as best I can figure, neither you nor Kat are in any danger from Laz, and he's the only swordmaster on the board. The real danger is if you hit the axe man, miss, Kat hits him, and then he hits her on his turn. That could be lethal.

The Summoner, two questions. The first relates to shades' issue. Can we give our turns conditionally? Like, could Kat say " I move in and attack only if Gerard hits"? In the console games, everyone doesn't process their attacks all at once, so conditional moves would make sense here in the forums as a way to keep some more complex strategies workable without slowing down the game a ton. Otherwise, if we run into a situation where most of our strategy depends on whether a unit gets eliminated on our turn, we don't have to guess and hope with our tactics.

Alternately, I suppose we could always ask you to process one part of our turn before we decide the rest. I realize that makes for a bit more work for you, so I'm hesitant to suggest it.

My second question is a little bit simpler. How do you make those sweet sweet maps that you're using for this game? Is there an editor or something available for download? I might want to run something like this sometime and I'm curious.

(Actually, no... she can't shoot through the wall and hit the fighter. If it were on a diagonal (eg she shoots from Q10 to R9), that would be doable, but the arrow isn't going to pierce through solid stone.)

Edit: I've said from the beginning that you can take your turns conditionally, but if you do that, you should give me instructions for every possible outcome... So if Kat were do do "I attack the fighter if Gerard hits" then tvga should also specify what to do if Gerard misses, or if Gerard gets a crit and kills the fighter.

To make the maps, I just found the map tile sprites on the internet, made a grid with blank squares big enough to fit the map tiles into, and do alot of copy/paste.

Besides, the super-boss(es) has 2 turns to win the entire map. Chances are high he'd rather aim for that goal than kill some random level 1 Archer/ level 2 Knight, especially if those characters are doing nothing to stop him from completing his goal and there are other characters who are actively doing that.

I've been waiting for you to attack the Fighter so I can get some extra kills EXP and then spend a turn dancing and doing nothing. Remember that Kat can't fight the Fighter unless she's killing him that turn, because he'll retaliate with lethal force against her.

Also, even if you do save me, Kat can't move anywhere that will cause her to gain experience if you give her 1 extra turn of doing something (assuming Kat dies this turn).

I would just attack the fighter.

"Damnation." Anselm said simply, striding forward towards the king. These were the moments that had earned him his position.

"Everyone, we'll need to stall for time." He said evenly. "Keep that man away from the king. If you can't kill him then try and hold him back. By force if you understand my meaning."

The Soldier nearest to Dellius rushes to attack. Before realizing what has happened, he is pierced by the spear. His broken body is thrown aside.

Archer 1 attacks Myrmidon 1!

Gerard

Nice work Katleia. Reinforcements shall arrive soon, and we are in no place to make further impact on this battle. Gerard cleans his spear. Are you okay?

Katleia

After her arrow flies true, Katleia starts shaking nervously again. The resolve that had been in her eyes during the shot had faded now that, for her, the battle was basically over. She looks at him and smiles a bit, not quite sure what to say. "I...I'm oh-okay, how...are you?" She notices a change in him, however slight, but doesn't say anything to the fact. "I'm g-gonna st-tay here. Not g-gonna move." Though she doesn't say it out loud, the reason is obvious; her legs are shaking quite a bit, so walking would be a little difficult.
