Default Werewolf Central VIII: Important WW information goes here - READ OPENING POSTS!

Hello all.
This thread was designed by Lucky originally for the purposes of coordinating and maintaining all the werewolf games and variants. It has become a great tool for us. This is where you come to place a claim on running your own Werewolves or Werewolves variant game. It can also be used to develop ideas and gather interest for your own version of the game.
Whatever you're looking for in regards to werewolf games should be found on this page.
Maybe not in this post, but somewhere on this first page.
Everything from start dates to active games, rules (and optional rules) to games archives can be found here along with tools designed to make your game run smoother.
If there’s something useful you think is missing, mention it. We will immediately eventually spring lurch into action to sort it out.

Since we can post in it now....

Mutants WW - Days of Ruin is RECRUITING!

Join up, people! I need at least 30 for all the roles, and the more I get the more chance for me thinking about adding an extra role to keep things even! No player limits like in D&D4E WW, this one is as many as join get in!

Can I get added to the schedule as co-narrator for Center WW, so I can be all official-like? I've already had somebody try to point at me.

Oh, and it's running, now.

Probably. I know I've done it before with cards. (Everybody gets dealt a card, there are more (or less) Wolves based on number of players, per normal, a Villager is a number, a Wolf is a Jack, the Seer is a King, the Baner is a Queen.)

Main differences are that if the Seer actually finds one, they (the wolf) get killed instantly, and that you can only have one bandwagon a day, resulting in several no lynches. (At least, that's how I've done it)

Looney Labs, among other people, make decks of cards that are useful for playing the game at home, but a special deck certainy isn't necessary. The first time I did it we used a regular deck of cards to randomly distribute roles. I think we used Aces for wolves, a Queen for the Seer, and a Jack for the Baner or something. It wasn't very many people, but it worked smashingly.

Here's their site which includes their rules for the game.

If you have a little extra cash and want something with a LOT more variation and complexity available, Lex-Kat and I are fond of Ted Alspach's Ultimate Werewolf.

Hope that helps. Playing it in person is LOADS of fun and completely different from playing it online here.

I believe both "Are you a werewolf" and "The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow" fit this bill, complete with snazzy role cards.

What Zeb and Penguinator said.

Typically the game plays out like this....

Narrator is killed. The narrator controls the day/phase. Day phase, everyone has their eyes open. Players can nominte and second the nomination for why someone might be a wolf. The person nominated gets a chance to explain why they aren't a wolf, including but not limited to role claiming, fake role claiming, etc.... After they give their defense, a vote is taken and if enough people believe, that player is killed and they show their card/role.

Night phase - At night everyone shuts their eyes. Not a word is spoken except for the narrator. The narrator asks each role (determined by the cards) to open their eyes. Then that player with the role opens their eyes - narrator asks them to pick a person to kill/bane/scry by pointing. The narrator then gives a thumbs up for acknowledgement (or in the case of a scry, a thumbs up or down pending if the scry target is a wolf or not.). After each role takes their turn (Open eyes, point at person, close eyes, next role), the night is ended and the narrator announces the actions of the night.

The player who is killed at night does not reveal their role. = More opportunity for role claiming.

If the wolves and the baner point at the same person, then "No one was killed" is annouced the next morning. This is left vague so the villagers/seer are still guessing, even though the wolves/baner know who was protected.

If more then 1 wolf, then they both open their eyes when the "Wolves, please open your eyes" is called, and can both see who the other wolf is on their team.

I typically recommend at least 8 people to play, and will only add the seer at 12+ people and baner at 15+ people. 1 wolf per 5 players works ok.

As for the which cards are which - here's how I remember.

2-10 (Villager) - plain, ordinary non face cards = plain, ordinary roles.
Aces (Wolves) - Called bullets when you get a pair in poker. And what do bullets do? They kill people. = Wolves/Mafia
King (Seer) - Command of his kingdom. He knows what's going on and whose who. = Seer
Queen (Baner) - Female card. Since historically females are known as care-takers, it's easy to see why the queen is the best choice for taking care of the villagers.

Dead players can be allowed to keep their eyes open, but should no way speak or indicate who is who for the game.

I've had games where both the seer and wolf claimed they were the seer = a lot of fun in the arguing and reasons why one was not a wolf and the other was. I highly recommend it if you get a group that's big enough - say at a Meetup with your fellow gitpr's.

Also, whenever I've played, we usually slap our knees, or make some other noise, during the night phase. It makes enough noise so that everyone next to those waking up don't easily hear them moving about when pointing.

I do seriously suggest getting Ultimate Werewolf. They have some really great roles, like Count Dracula, Zombies, Ghost, Old Man, Drunk, Hunter, Teen Wolf. And it gives you +/- numbers on each card, to better help you balance the game.

I've never done this in groups I've played in, so a lot of the accusations revolve around accusations of people moving during the wolf phase, while the wolves try to move as little as possible while pointing. On top of that, some villagers will make noise during the wolf phase just so that in later games where they are wolves, they can point back to their earlier noisy behavior as villagers.

I can't help but see the Jack being able to do anything at 50% accuracy.
