The new rules/ guidelines are there to prevent drama. Ret con's (which in may have over stated as a problem it been quite a while since I read the threads but I thought it happen at least twice) destroys all meaning to a post and makes it less interesting to read/play.
If you have all name character picks wiped out, then do something to make your remaining picks interesting. This could be by naming some and creating a character to making them go on a sudice mission and killing someone powerful.
Yes, not everybody is a writer, (I'm not myself) but it more fun hearing how Piglet (An uninteresting pick from Winnie the pooh) kills Sephiroth even if it only badly written. Much more fun then hearing how Sora (kingdom hearts) was resurrected to do the same. Go out with a bang.
Also on Insanowar lite, how would the picks start? Personally i think we need bases of some sort, As this allows weak combat but special ability pick such as mad inventors types so how about trenchs with an hanger and lab building at the back?

The problem with that is that not everyone can make up characters for uninteresting picks on the spot. I know for one that it takes a loooong time for me to think up a character when an idea doesn't come to me first. And when others meet that fate? Well, then the game staggers, obviously.
And I've had to deal with more than my fair share of games staggering.
You know, I'd love to give this another shot as well. It's a shame that 4 never got wrapped up... I kept waiting for everyone else to go, but NOBODY WENT... And it felt rude to take three turns in a row. So, I see gothicbob started a game lite-is anyone interested in a standard game?

Honestly, I couldn't work up the commitment after 3 people quit. Horngeek didn't respond to any of my reminders and a 1v1 is just... less fun. Sorry.
I had an idea recently for a bracketed insanowar tournament. Something like the Superhero Smackdown.
Basically everyone would PM 3-5 choices to the narrator, who would choose the most interesting pick from each person, set up brackets, and dictate the arena conditions for each set.

Any interest/comments/criticism/suggestions?
Hmm... A power cap would be nice, so that someone like Superman, wouldn't end up against someone like Serious Sam, or Howard the Duck.
That's why there would be an impartial ref, and 5 picks per person. The ref would try their best to choose a pick from each person that was roughly in line with the others.
@nehh I would just go ahead and start one.I be happy ro play if none of the other reserve's before me are
@ happy turtle your game sound like a awesome varient go for it
And I think mine just died, I going to try to restart it after the hoildays.

Greetings, thread! This special occasion is brought to you by Darkcomet and Wolfbane!
Presenting...
Spoiler
Insanowar...
IN SPACE!
The black is, obviously, space.
The blue circles represent space stations. These have repair functions and such that you would typically expect of sci-fi space stations, but are unarmed.
The five circles outside the middle and the colored areas between them represent asteroids, with the circles representing concentrated asteroid fields. The asteroid concentration between the circles is the same, and the differing look of thickness is from the Inkscape tool I used to make this thing.
The red circle represents a plasma/ion storm, with the tendril-like bits being areas where the storm lashes out at its surroundings.
Now, the unique environment of SPACE! Insanowar presents a few issues of its own. How big can you get? How do superweapons work? Have no fear, these questions will all be answered.
The top of the size bracket would be something around the size of the Executor, the Super Star Destroyer seen in SW Episodes V and VI. It would come without its fighter complement, however, which must come as a separate pick.
Likewise, in the case of superweapons, a ship must come without its superweapon initially as a pick, and the superweapon will come as a second pick. This means that to get something like the Eclipse-a Super Star Destroyer type thing with a superlaser weapon-you would have to spend 3 picks on it to get it up to full-the ship, the fighter complement, and the superlaser. This becomes extremely important, as I will explain later.
A note on the map: The asteroid fields are meant to be harmful to larger ships, as they find it hard to avoid hitting them due to their sheer size. The plasma/ion storm is meant to be harmful to smaller ships, due to them not having as powerful shielding against such things as larger ships.
Finally, and importantly, there will be only 5 picks in SPACE! Insanowar. This is to encourage more tactical thinking on the players' part, as giant superweapons like the Eclipse, described earlier, take up most of your picks when fully outfitted!
Special thanks to Wolfbane for helping to iron out the details on this one.
A note: I'll be in the first game of this one, and Wolf reserved a spot in this a while back, so there are only three available for it.
May I please place a reservation for whatever insanowar comes next? It sounds fun!
