Happy arrives at the campsite with a few NPCs hired to help out for the day, as well as any PC's who want to handwave in that they were notified.

She unlocks the lodge house, and puts on a dust mask before going in. "Let's get all the windows open to air the place out. And I think we're going to need a to do list."

Oh look! There's a handy blackboard up on one wall, and there are even some bits of chalk left behind. She starts a list:

To do:
  • hire a chimney sweep
  • chop firewood
  • set up beds in the main lodge
  • inspect plumbing

To buy:
  • vacuum cleaner
  • lawn mower
  • mattresses

The lodge building was formerly the mess hall of the campsite, and still has enough table and chairs to seat 200 campers, though most of them are folded up and stacked in a corner. As might be guessed from its capacity, it's larger than the former GLoG greatroom. There's a giant fireplace, the kind that a wicked witch could easily coax a child to crawl into for nefarious purposes, and an industrial kitchen with lots of stainless steel surfaces. This building has a boys and a girls restroom, with toilets and sinks only. Showering will have to be done in the bathhouse, and there are no bathtubs at all.

The residential cabins have metal frame bunkbeds which are serviceable. The mattresses, however, are rather musty. And somewhat moldy. And a bit rodent infested. Happy decides those will have to be destroyed and replaced, and new mattresses purchased.

The hired help starts working on cleaning and moving bunk beds up to the main lodge, while Happy starts making phone calls to notify people of the new location.

Whump.

For that is the sound of a dragon and mount hitting the dirt. Man, Jazirian must bored of ferrying Khiansa sound like that. Especially since he can, y'know, TELEPORT.

They both enter the lodge, Jazirian in human form.

They might start coughing. There is a lot of dust.

"Hi guys!"
Happy calls out cheerfully. "Might want to grab some dust masks. They're by the door."

Their constant protective spells and dragon biology sneer at simple dust. But they get masks anyway.
"Nice place to rebuild. An excellent choice."

"It'll be lovely in the spring," Happy agrees. "It's going to be a big rough at first though. We'll all be bunking in here, and I'm afraid to use the fireplace without having the chimney examined."

So Khiansa goes around the grounds, casting alarm spells around the surrounding woods, and wards against the weaker classes of undead, devil or demon (eg. Those least likely to be PCs ), weak wards to limit the strength of destructive magic, and other such weak fields of protection, in order to make things a bit safer in general, before he can eventually go back over and make stronger, more selective wards.
After setting up the wards, he'll start the considerably harder work of magically fortifying the buildings themselves, especially the lodge, weaving spells of protection and strength in between and through the building materials, so that they may better withstand attack.

Meanwhile, Jazirian turns into a large gecko and crawls into the chimney, to see what's going on up there.

"Hey, I think we should make the front door either as strong or as cheap as possible, considering the number of people who break it down. Either that, or self-repairing hinges."

D'awww, it's a nest of cute little flying squirrels.

Along with a whole bunch of soot. Definitely not safe to use the fireplace yet.

"As strong as possible just sounds like a challenge. We don't want that," Happy says.

[Lake, Southern Shores]

Our descriptive tour starts here, because NK has jurisdiction here.

The southern shore is a gentle slope descending into the waters of the lake, sandy here and there, and perfect for waders and swimmers. There are no high banks along the water, which is normally quite pleasant. Being winter, of course, it is rather chilly. The foliage around the lake isn't prickly or harsh at all, and a free trees provide shade for those inclined to lounge nearby.

[South Meadow]

Immediately south of the central shoreline is a rather nice meadow. Although winter has robbed it of some joy and vitality, [South Meadow] will be a lovely spot for picnics when warmth returns, with soft grass, pretty blooms, and an arrangement of surrounding trees that lets in just enough wind to cool you off in the summer but blocks enough so that the windchill doesn't freeze you.

[South Forest]

As the tree line thickens, conifers and deciduous trees grow in thick clumps, making a patchy canopy overhead. Hiking trails wind through it here and there, but it is mostly overgrown; the southern woods are a more remote and neglected part of the campground.

The bare wooden limbs of the deciduous trees contrast sharply with the continued vitality and life of the firs and other conifers. The elevation gently slopes up the deeper south you go, wit forested hills rising and eventually the great peaks of the mountains forming the southern part of the valley.

[Once in a lifetime, you get a new beginning]

GLoG, was blown apart and torn down, those who visited it mourned the loss of such an extravagant building, and for the loss of a landmark they grew up with. When they heard word of it being rebuilt, from almost the ground, people came to see, and to work. The following is an excerpt from a journal of a woman who came to see the new place...

On the northern shores of the lake, 'tis easy to see why they pick such a place. To the south it one range of mountains, sandy beaches and old forgotten trails, on the north side, things are rockier. For example, even as I write this, I stand on the head of a short cliffside some six feet above the glistening blue waters, well they are frozen over with ice at the moment, glittering in the sun, but I can imagine the summer view...

To look around, turning in an eastward fasion, it's easiest to notice the grey mountain peak of the beginning of the northern range, the massive waterfall feeding the lake shining white even from here, there are the forested groves and the low growing holly bushes, some dead for the winter, others still a vibrant green as thier sort dictates. To the north, I will have to travel through the woods, to be looking upon the sights. Coming back 'round to the west, you can see the battered place of old, where a graveyard must have stood, some pitted old pillars and laystones of granite grown over with moss, and pushed aside by saplings.

Upon starting the climb up the hillsides about the mountainous locale, I noticed that where some rockslides had taken the face away from the lower mountain revealing black, midnight cracks into the roots of the world, leading who knows where, and sealed for who knows how long. Ah! I have reached a merry pinnacle, about halfway up those imposing peaks. Oh, 'tis cold, certainly, but any who dare venture up this far are surely in for a treat of wonder. Looking down across the forest, you can see the blackened trees to the west, and the breaks in the treeline where the cabins and lodges stand empty, with the little cleared roads drawing snaked pathes between them.

Up here, you can taste the frigid air, and only the lowest growing bushes are able to grow at all. Miraculously, when I stopped in a little enclave on the side of the hill, heading back down now, there were blueberries growing! In the middle of winter, no less! Unfortunately, there was a storm brewing, and I had no time to stop and wait. One thing did catch my eye though, on the way down, that somehow I couldn't see from the peak, and I have yet to drop by the main lodge itself to see, but from here I could see a tree, massive beyond reason of twisted branches and a trunk easily as large as a house, I would say it was a blue ash, but they couldn't possibly grow so tall...

Oh! A voice exclaims, from somewhere across the other side of the lake. It might be hard for someone to hear that, though.

But, indeed, there's a proper speaker, too, this is not just some unhappy spirit, waifishly wobegone as it wanders between worlds. It's a small young man. Rather small, indeed - but perfectly proportioned at this low height. A halfling, the uneducated might call him - a hobbit, the ruder still might.

Whatever he is, he's confused by the sudden activity in the area he always knew to be deserted. Intrigued, he, with great dexterity, shimmies out of his thick leather boots, tying his long, shiny chestnut brown hair into a tight knot at the time, and plunges into the cold lake, not seeming to notice the seasonal, icy chill of the water - a flickering golden aura seen just around his skin as he quietly, yet quickly, swims across the water, just under the surface, heading for the main lodge.

And yet, when he reaches the bank, hoisting himself out of the water, quickly - steam issuing from his clothes oddly enough, as if drying supernaturally, his confidence seems to fade, very slightly. Within bright, pretty orange eyes there's a worry, now, slightly - and not just because of the tingling presence of a number of ancient spirits staring at him from behind and among the trees around him.

Hello? This new character calls, out to the lodge, in slight anxiousness, rubbing his lithe, bare foot into the dirt below it slightly, in a nervous tick, as he waits.

A small feline, dressed in silk bandage-like wrappings walks onto the premises.

Said feline is headed towards the main lodge, to bat its paw on the door.

A tall woman walks toward the lodge, wrapped in fire.
She looks at the surroundings disdainfully. We should have just rebuilt. Not that that would help either...

Still, the work of making this place liveable is something she thinks she can do. And she feels obligated to help. A slight smile appearing on her face, Ashna goes up to the lodge and stops, looking at the cat.

What are you doing here?

The door is open, as vigorous cleaning is going on inside. If kitty or the hobbit looks in, they will see a woman in a hover wheelchair, along with another man and woman who are cleaning. They will also likely see each other.

"Come on in," Happy calls out, barely able to hear the halfling's greeting over the noises of cleaning.

"Mew?" Asks the kitty as she looks up, noticing the people.

The invitation is noted, and the kitty enters, a smug face it has.

The kitty scans the area for magic.

Ashna sighs and steps inside. That cat is probably going to end up killing someone.

Hello, Happy. What needs to be done? she asks, twirling a hammer she's produced.

The hammer and the small necklace she's wearing, just an iron circle on a chain, are both slightly magical.

It had been quite the walk from Town.

Off the main route a fair bit. Up the long, winding gravel road. The ground is littered with dull brown maple and elm leaves, having long since lost their autumn brilliance. Bare branches clatter and sway high above, caressed by the winter wind.

The forest birds have largely departed for warmer places to winter. Though some remain, their shrill calls drifting through the forest. Squirrels scold the hiker and deer watch shyly from the brush.

And those granite peaks, of course, loom in the distance. Craggy and majestic, faces scoured by ages of ice and rain and wind.

"This is a good place," Zee comments, hugging her coat around herself a little tighter. "A lot better than that ugly bunker they used to be in."

The woman is bundled up warm today, a wool sock-like garment pulled over her tail to keep it warm. And a pack upon her back. Just behind a giant weasel is following her, weighed down with a harness and some sacks.

Some might even call the weasel in question dire.

"I never saw the old one!" comments Zephyr the dire weasel, one of Zee's older creations. He's a whole year and a half! "But this place is nice! And it smells good, too!"

Smelling good is always a plus.

Before long the hydra-girl will be approaching the main lodge, waving cheerfully at whoever she spots. "Haaiiiiii everyone~!"

Ashna looks at the cat to make sure that it has a shadow.
Then she hears someone else yelling, and looks back outside. Who is it this time?

That sounds just a bit familiar. Zee! she calls out, stepping out and waving. All the flames around her rise up higher and brighter, cheered.

"Hiya!" the hydra girl waves back cheerfully, stopping in front of the lodge and letting her pack down from her shoulders. Then blinks at the flamin' lady. "Eerr... I, uhh... I don't remember your name."

She smiles rather sheepishly.

"Did you know you're on fire?" asks the giant weasel.

This is a problem, but it can wait. And as long as it has a shadow, it's not as bad as she thought.

The woman may never have introduced herself.
"Ashna. Who made the pancakes and who Raril infected. Come on in." She says, waving to the door.

Then laughs at the question. "Yes, I knew. Always have been. So what's your name? We don't see many talking weasels." We also refer to ourselves in the plural.

The small man nods, to himself, though both he and his player are doubtful that any, especially Happy, would see such a small, and pretty insignificant motion.

Quietly (especially now he's being drowned out by the sound of the cleaning), he steps into the lodge, but stays well away from Happy in her chair. Just in case.

A big man in an orange coat wearing a large backpack approaches camp placeholder and takes a deep breath of fresh air. "I've needed this for months" he says happily. He notices people moving around near the lodge, which he approaches. "Hello" he says I hope I'm not intruding.

((Sorry about the sudden poofing. I was going around the neighborhood giving out cards, candy canes, and Christmas cheer.))

"Oh! Right, Ashna! The one Raril bit..." Zee rubs the back of her head absently, offer an apologetic grin. "Yeah, sorry about that. I hope turning into a poofy canine every month hasn't been too much of a bother."

Zee's headed for the door, though she pauses to wave cheerfully at the fellow in the coat. "I'll bet you aren't! I'm just barging in, too."

Zephyr bounces up and down a bit like an excitable giant weasel. "I'm Zephyr! Zee made me! I used to be a normal spider! Being a weasel is a lot more fun than being a spider."
