Oh, hey: There was a note early on about the keys having grooves... while travelling, I'd like to take some time to examine them in detail, to see if the grooves are set up in such a way as to cause them to only fit together in one specific manner.

Of course, by the time I finish this post, it will already be obsolete. C'est la vie.

Any two Keys can be joined together; all have both raised areas and recessed areas, which fit each other. However, the only way to get all six together in a cube is to have the opposites facing each other; fire apart from water, life from death, etc. Doing so creates a perfect cube that cancels out all effects from the Keys.

Hey, anyone planning to not make it today? Because either this session or the next one will be the last (depending on how long today takes), so I'd like everyone present. If you can't make it, that's fine, just let me know and I will postpone.

Traveled back to the Outlands after some preparations, and were attacked by an Omnimental, who had the powers of all the different elements within it. After defeating it, ran into the same old man you met last time you were in this realm, who you dug a grave for. He looks much younger now, and turned out to be none other than Obad Hai (one of his myths is that he grows old and dies every winter, is buried under that tree, and a seed from the tree grows into a new him in the spring), who talked about the balance between laws and chaos, and gave you an acorn that contained enough deific power to allow one round of magic at the Spire.
Arriving there, you saw that the area was surrounded by demons, including patrolling Retrievers, Chasmes ready to unleash Hellwasp Swarms, Glabrezus manning ballistae, Vrocks flying over the gulf that surrounded your goal, and Nabassus at the center.
Good planning let you bypass much of it; the angels you brought attacked the Glabrezu, teleportation got you to the gulf but couldn't traverse it, messing with the weather prevented flying, a spell on Zaratan allowed him to fly nonetheless, and finally the acorn and the Keys allowed Banishment to be used against the demons at the center.
At this point Deego revealed that he and Zaratan (now awakened) had secretly switched places, and that Deego had decided against godhood, allowing his former animal companion take his place (he privately informed me of his plan to do this several weeks ago). Bidding him and the angels farewell, Ornald, Madila, Rilath, and Zaratan assembled the Key of Creation, and were transported to a white realm where they met the first two gods, Primus and Olidammara.
The two informed you that you had one final choice to make before ascending to godhood. As an alternative to being a part of the endless cycle of creation and potential destruction, which ultimately meant that your fate depended on mortals following in your footsteps and collecting the Keys without your direct intervention, and the risk of ultimate annihilation should the demons every get them, you could choose to be separate from the cycle all together.
By creating a universe that was bound together not by the forces of magic, but by matter, energy, and time, yours would be a plane of "science", and theoretically so different from others that it could survive the destruction of reality if the Keys were destroyed. However, there would be no magic at all in this world, and even as gods you would lack the ability to grant spells to mortals and directly intervene. Instead your interaction would be far more subtle, typically being mistaken as mere mythology by mortals.
The two oldest gods, being personifications of Law and Chaos untempered by morality, can't decide if this is good or not. Primus argues that it would keep the greatest number of people safe, and thus is the morally sound decision. Olidammara however spends more time among mortals, and believes that people need fantasy to truly be people.
Madila and Zaratan decide they like the sound of this "science world", believing that life must endure at all costs, while Ornald and Rilath believe even that ultimate destruction won't truly be the end of everything, since that's how everything started anyway. Evenly divided, the group eventually decides to try both, a world of science and magic indivisible.
Primus and Olidammara find this outcome interesting, and depart satisfied. As they leave, the four former mortals transcend into true godhood, and prepare to create their world, while discussing which of them should play "antagonist" to keep mortals on their toes.

Well, that's the campaign. Hope you enjoyed it. I sure did, but it went on a lot longer than I planned. It'll be a relief to have that prep time to myself again!
But I'm still up for more gaming with you guys, if you are. I know Magotter was looking into starting a Pathfinder campaign, and Galliard suggested doing some sort of group world building. I'm up for pretty much anything.
And if no one else wants to run something just yet, I'd be willing to if I can do a short premade adventure (again, it's the prep time that kills me). Maybe Pathfinder, so anyone who is not used to those rules could get their feet wet (it's about as close to 3.5 as 3.5 was to 3.0, so you're 90% there even if you've never played). But I also would love to be a player again, haven't done so in 2 years now.
I guess we'll keep this thread active for now, until we know what we want to do and start a new one. Please post any idea you have.

im with galli on the world building. Dawn of Worlds is a surprisingly short and elegant take on world building, turning it into a round robin. It's easy to pick up, and it'd let us both be creative and shoot the **** as we unwind for a few weeks with some non-commital gaming that requires literally zero planning or forethought. . With my job being terminated at the end of the month, im unsure how it is going to affect my schedule. This might act as a good stopgap between campaigns.
Okay, that's two votes for world building, one for Paranoia. It's Friday, so I guess I'll start the server at the normal time, and we can discuss more "live".

Was going to come on tomorrow, but I came home earlier from work. Put it out of my mind since it was three hours before I normally came home from work and... never remembered about it again.
