in maptool go to file>connection info
see what pops up there
also, i tried to ping your ip through the command line and got nothing
That's normal, unfortunately for me at work. Most routers block ICMP pings to the external IP address by default. And clearly, his Internet connection is working.

Hold on, I'm going to try connecting from another computer, and then maybe reset the router.
Did you check your internal IP address, to see if that changed? Usually happens after a power outage, or if you left your computer off for an extended period of time.

Okay, I registered with RPTools, now my name appears on the list, but it still times out when I do it.
I've also tried running it from another computer on my network, and it still isn't working. And I currently have no firewall or antivirus turned on.
Since it isn't working on either computer, I'm thinking it's the router. I'm going to have to mess with it.
Well, you'll still need port forwarding for any/all incoming connections. With most routers, that gets chained to an internal IP address. If you don't specifically set your internal ip address on your computer, then sooner or later, your computers IP address will change, and that'll break the forwarding - so nobody would be able to connect (I work with this sort of thing at work reasonably regularly).
Have you checked the port forwarding settings on your router to your computer's internal IP address?

Session closed. Ran a little long because of technical difficulties with my router.
Captain Baker dropped you off near the village of Drull, which was in the grip of an undead plague. Made contact with the survivors, rid the town of the shambling dead that held it in their grip, and acquired a weapon with which to fight undead monstrosities.
Experience:
* 1 CR 7 Gravetouched Ghoul (the little girl): 900 xp each
* 1 CR 7 Burning Skeleton: 900 xp each
* 1 CR 5 Ghost peacefully laid to rest: 400 xp each
Should be enough to bring you all up a level.
Loot:
* Masterwork Artisans Tools (55 gp)
* +1 Undead Bane Sling (8300 gp)
* Maps to both Mountain Pass and the Aerie.
You guys unanimously decided to follow up on the Aerie idea, so that's what I plan on making maps for next week. If you change your mind for whatever reason, let me know.

Hey, I know this is annoying and I wish there was something I could do, but my mom is coming into town this weekend and staying with us tonight. I just found out about it yesterday and so I doubt I will be able to come to much (if any of tomorrow's game). I should be there for next week's game though.
For the record, if we could decide on a week night to do this game I could probably have more stable attendance, but I assume with the time zone differences that might not be possible at all.

For the record, I try to be in bed prior to 8 PM Pacific, as work starts at 6 am, I like leisurely mornings, and I need to be cheery at work.

Spell list updated... I'm now packing three Resist Elements spells, and three Endure Elements spells, plus my domain specialty resist elements (Fire Only) spell (rather than Stone Shape).

Two players in attendance. Traveled to the Aerie, a gigantic tree inhabited by equally gigantic birds, only to find that it and everything in it was frozen solid, along with much of the surrounding forest. Got ambushed by a freezing trap, then attacked by two icy monsters who attempted to capture you for "preservation".
After defeating them, you entered the central chamber and met Mabbruk, an "intelligent" (not very) Ice Golem from the plane of Mechanus, who was obsessed with keeping order by preserving lifeforms (i.e. freezing them) so that they could be kept as objects of study after the world ends.
Handled him quite well, thanks to a well chosen incendiary spell by Ornald, Madila's natural fireproof-ness, and the eventually thawing out of the head bird by said spell, who joined in the fight. The bird, a huge owl named Fargo, agreed to carry you to the mountain, and also gave you the remains of the Orb that was enabling the freezing, a large diamond.
Enemies defeated:
* Two CR 6 Ice Paraelementals, in conjunction with a Freezing trap: 750 xp
* One CR 9 Ice Golem: 1000 xp
Loot:
A large diamond, approximate value 8500 gp.

Hey so first of all I just thought I would check to make sure we are playing this weekend. I will be there as long as you guys are.
I also have this problem that when I don't play for a little while I always want to make a new character. I was kind of thinking that our little team could use a bit more damage dealing power (as right now none of us are great at it). I thought of a couple of builds that would be a bit more flavor than a simple spellwarped human, but I wanted to hear what you guys think.

I'm planning on being there. Haven't heard anything to the contrary from the others.

Fair enough, I'll PM you to discuss the details.

Session closed. Because I've got a lot to cover, I'm going to split this into two posts.
First the summary of what happened:
Stormed the temple of Nerull. Found out that the nobles who were financing them were being rewarded with Vampirism. The power to do this was being drawn from an Astral Deva, whom you freed.
Since the process was incomplete, the nobles were only Vampire Spawn rather than full Vampires. You took them out. You also solved a riddle that allowed you to cross a particularly dangerous floor, and freed the soul of a skeleton who was condemned to watch others die of the same thing that killed him until someone figured it out.
In the living quarters that Tharantas held when he was alive, you found a letter threatening you with certain doom should you continue. Said doom took the form of Kamro, a great big white dragon who you fought and defeated. Wisely you spared his life, as he almost certainly (80% chance) would have risen as a zombie to attack once more. Took his hoard as well.
Magnetbox wasn't here for the last part, so I'll describe that in more detail so he knows what happened.
Downstairs you found a great cavern with a swirling vortex of death in the middle of it. Tharantas (reborn as a Huecuva as punishment for failing to destroy the world years ago) was there, waiting. His hatred of all living things led to him being particularly disgusted with you three, as your somewhat bizarre traits make you even more of an abomination to him than normal people.
Rick (played by Jack throughout this fight) attacked him, only to discover that the being they were speaking with was an illusion, and the real Tharantas was invisibly nearby. Rick also discovered the hard way that getting to close to the vortex is harmful, and becomes moreso as you near the center.
The real Tharantas attacked Ornald, but failed to affect him with any spells. All three PCs ganged up on him and for a while victory seemed assured.
Until the jerk teleported into the edge of the rift and its energies started healing him. Ornald blasted him with fire, Rick stuck him with silver Harpoons (Ornald was knowledgeable enough to recognize silver as his weakness), and Madila pelted him with Undead Bane rocks.
But Tharantas was healing faster than he was being damaged, and fought back. Rick was injured when he tried to attack the illusion, Madila ended up poisoned and at death's door with almost no Con remaining, and Tharantas summoned a Spiritual Scythe that got in a few lucky hits on Ornald (including one with a nasty x4 crit).
Things were looking rough, since Tharantas could heal himself indefinitely with the rift. But then he made a huge mistake: attempting to cast Slay Living on Rick. He discovered too late that when Rick's SR blocks a spell, it doesn't just fail to work, it makes him even stronger.
With a +4 to strength, Rick was able to shove Tharantas right into the center most part of the Rift, and through the door to the Negative Energy plane. The power was too much for the Huecuva, and he exploded, shrieking that he could not face the fate that awaited him back in Carceri. But in doing this, Rick sacrificed himself. The damage caused by getting so close to the doorway was as deadly to him as it was helpful to his enemy, and he perished as a hero.
The rift collapsed, and the world was saved. Madila was dying, but Ornald managed to save her with the help of a wand from the dragon's hoard that boosted her resistance to the poison, and a couple of potions. They summoned the owl Fargo, and returned home.

You return to the kingdom of Tarwyn without difficulty. When you arrive you are brought before King Brian and thanked profusely for your deeds. His seers have confirmed that the danger to the world is over, and that things will eventually return to normal.
As a reward, you are given a full pardon for the charges brought against you (which were bogus anyway). You are also made Lords of the realm, and given Lord Russet's former holdings, since he had no heirs. You get his mansion, and ownership of the lands on which the town of Dagger Rock stands, along with much of the surrounding countryside, which means a steady income (I'll work out the exact value later). The king also promises to call upon you for any future supernatural threats that the kingdom faces, which may lead to greater rewards in the future.
Rick is buried with full honors as a lord (title awarded posthumously) in the royal cemetery. A statue of him is erected over his grave, which depicts him standing upon a scroll holding a harpoon and a gnomish quickblade crossed over his head. The scroll tells of how he sacrificed himself to save the world.
Jaerin, the king's adviser, promises to look into the nature of the obsidian pyramid that you brought back. After a week he returns it to you, claiming the results of his findings are inconclusive.
The pyramid seems indestructible. It has grooves on its sides, that make him think that it fits together with other pieces.
It has some strange death-related powers. When holding it, the bearer cannot be harmed by overexposure to positive energy, and can cast Harm once per day at a caster level equal to his character level.
It can also be used to create undead beings. When used to stab the corpse of a freshly killed living being, it destroys the body and acquires an amount of power equal to that beings HD. It can then be used to create any undead creature of equal or lesser HD by putting that power into another corpse. Only one such being's life energy can be contained within at a single time. Clearly this is how Tharantas was able to drain the life of creatures and use it to make more undead.
One thing's for sure, whatever this thing is there are more of them out there, with who knows what functions. Possibly five more, as with six of these they could join together and form a perfect cube.
Jaerin has conferred with several seers, and none of them can get any information on its origin. No divine beings will answer their questions. The only thing they managed to get was from a Slaad who was a herald of Olidammara. He answered one question. When asked why they couldn't see the magical aura of this item, even though it was clearly magical, the Slaad responded "The same reason that when you are standing in the town square, you can't see the kingdom."

Well, that's the first major storyline completed. Next week, since Galliard won't be here and Magnetbox is introducing a new character, I plan on having a more or less standalone "episode" that should only take one session to complete, and will give the new character a reason to join the party.
But first I'd like to hear what you guys think so far. Please share your opinions on how the campaign is shaping up. And be honest, I'm perfectly happy to make changes to my style in the interest of everyone having more fun. I've done quite a few campaigns over the years, in a lot of different styles and themes, so I can be flexible.
* How's the difficulty? Too easy? Too hard? Just right?
* What do you think of the story? Do you want to continue to pursue it, or take more of a sandbox approach? Are there too many plot rails? Because now would be the perfect time to jump them.
* Since all your characters were clearly designed to be fairly combat oriented, I've included a lot of combat. I think we've only had one session without fighting, and we average about two encounters per game. Is there anything you'd like more or less focus on? More social interaction, more traps and puzzles, more dungeon-delves?
* What's your take on the whole "three free levels" thing? Is it a good idea? Is it balanced? Is it fun?
* Do you feel you are advancing at about the right pace? Getting xp and wealth fast enough? You were behind WBL for a while, but I think you've started to catch up. And with the whole Lordship thing, I can give you a steady income to smooth things out if you are still behind where you think you should be.
* Any suggestions in general? Is there a particular type of monster you'd like to face, treasure you want to acquire, setting you want to visit? Imbrius is a big place, I'm sure I can fit any special requests in somewhere. The point is to have fun, so I take these sorts of suggestions seriously.

wee! more dingstuff! umm.. you gys kept saying that there was a class out there that the Monk was supposed to be like.. what was it, and where could i find it?
as a reminder.. i wont be on next weekend
* How's the difficulty? Too easy? Too hard? Just right?
i think the difficulty was fine on average.. but the encounters went from pretty easy to pretty tough.. i blame the cr system...
* What do you think of the story? Do you want to continue to pursue it, or take more of a sandbox approach? Are there too many plot rails? Because now would be the perfect time to jump them.
the story definitely has me wanting more.. espescialy after finding out that this one world ending bit is part of a larger thing...

i think, that concidering what classes we have playing, stuff is just fine.. i mean.. it kinda sucks to delve a trap-heavy dungeon if we dont have any rogues to help. unless its a puzzle type thing.. like the tempts fate stuff from goblins
* What's your take on the whole "three free levels" thing? Is it a good idea? Is it balanced? Is it fun?
i'm enjoying the 3 free levels.. it lets us have a bit more of a variety in our characters without realy overpowering whatever you toss at us.. and as we get higher in level, the felt benifit of the bonus wil drop over time as well

xp and all feels fine.. about a level every 3-4 sessions it seems.. keeps it feeling like we're going places and growing... money is fine as well.. though a bit biased as a monk in that.. meant to go around unarmed and armored..
