Lloyd is going to become a memetic badass, isn't he. XD
It'd be great if this happened in story, among the persecuted people that he rescues. Incidentally, I have such a big smile after seeing Lloyd lay down the law with that guy.

Question: What's your opinion of Ethan before and after this strip and the previous one?
You're talking about someone who refuses to come withing ten feet of an orc. Sure Ethan may not have the same reasons *coughobviouslyimpliedrapecough* but Janine would understand, in a sense.
You lost me.... What are you talking about? Did I miss something? I didn't read the first two threads, is that why I don't know what's going on? If I missed backstory that would fill in the gaps.

Have you read the previous comics?
And no, we only know bits and pieces of the characters' backstories. And by "We," I mean, "All the readers except Water-Smurf and Silverraptor, and even they don't know 100%."
There WILL be two prequel comics once Murphy's Law is finished, about 400 strips from now.

Janine is terrified of orcs to the point that she threatened to quit the party if one joined. She judges all orcs based on what a single one may have (according to my theory) done to her, so in a sense, she doesn't really have the right to judge Ethan for hating other species of humanoids.
Unless you're talking about the rape thing, that's just the most obvious theory for Janine's backstory. It neatly explains why she's deathly afraid of orcs and why her views on sex/relationships are so flawed.
In other words, it's just a Wild Mass Guess that has yet to be Jossed/ Confirmed.

It seems the strips reveal less about Ethan himself than about the world he lives in...and what we learn about that world is pretty depressing. I imagine Ethan's way of thinking is typical, and Lloyd and company are the exceptions.
As for Ethan himself -- well, he's just a guy who is failing to rise above the world he lives in. Disappointing, especially for a friend of Janine's, but it doesn't tell us much about him as an individual. Maybe he has the strength to change his mind and become a force for reshaping the world, maybe not...we would have to learn a lot more about him to even take a guess.

Which I'm not doing for a while (Although I'm sorely tempted...)

Bingo! Except that Ethan has an ostensibly good reason to be racist towards Plavaan (More like a reason that's so accepted that very few people think otherwise.) Basically, in most places in Nordica, racism against Plavaan is pretty much the norm. It's worse in some places than others (In Runite, you get grafitti carved in your windows. You don't want to know what happens in Kago), and there are people trying to change, but...
Also, humans tend to be the most racist towards Plavaan.
Also also, someone needs to update the TvTropes page.

Awesome thanks. Yes I've read the other comics, Coffee.
I'm not one for commenting on stuff I haven't read....but i think i'll go re-read them, since it's been a while. Details slip away quick, whenever a book comes out that I've been waiting for i have to reread the whole set first to know what's going on.
*edit Having read back through, i see it now. I totally missed the significance of her reaction to orcs. Also, I didn't notice tiasal the first time.

That's for sure, and I don't want to dive in to deep for fear of not being able to enjoy finding stuff out on my own. I do however come up with ideas of my own and throw them to her to see what she thinks about them.
Smug Loyd is A.W.E.S.O.M.E, a paladin that upholds the law and knows how to use it well.... I am speechless.
Also... beach episode Love the premise, and now I have an inkling of proof that Matt/Serrin is a possible ship!!! (leaving Radic free to be shipped with Loyd!!!Ç)
By the way cofffe, where are the smileys for them? I need to add something to my sig.

If there is any hope for Ethan to change, it would probably be because he believes he is doing good. Obviously he isn't, but Ethan isn't using his religion as a mask for his prejudice, either. He just seems to be convinced that Plavaan people are inherently evil. Maybe if someone could convince them that Astrid thought otherwise.
Oh, and how does the local government work again? If a temporal law can stop a cleric, does it mean the church and the nobility share power?

Which is why I'm not telling you anything else.

Thank you! I wanted to make Lloyd a true Paladin.

Sorry, don't have time to pull them up right now; I have to go now. I'll post them later.

Yep, pretty much on target with Ethan. And although the church doesn't directly hold power, they have a LOT of influence.
I have hopes that Ethan can be reformed if he's willing to go along with this because Lloyd is pushing him. I half expect him to do something horrible to them when Lloyd's back is turned.
